Not a rumour but I have thought of a way to make drafting more interesting.

Speed drafting.

It is just like the normal draft as we know it now, but instead each club has 20 seconds to make their selection, and if they take 21 seconds they lose the draft pick all together.

And after each pick they need to drink a shot. So the draft gets "more" interesting as it goes on.

You could have but that would have inhibited your trading in later years with the 2 in 4 rule for first rounders, if your recruiter takes the best available at the first pick you just have to back them in.
They used two first rounders in 2015, so it wouldn't have inhibited them.

At first I thought Ainsworth easily. Still him but wouldn't be surprised at all if we took Taranto.
Why take Taranto if Suitcase is essentially a better, albeit inside version? You'd think they'd go best available or Ainsworth. Maybe at a stretch Scrimshaw.

Healy is usually one of the more reliable media experts. He doesn't talk out of his arse nearly as much as some of the others. Does that mean GWS go for Aimsworth and Brisbane go for McCluggage?

Just as the groundswell started to build around McGrath at 1, there seems to be a later groundswell building around Taranto at 2.

there's talk that if McGrath is gone then GWS go for Taranto

Would be a little odd to meet last with the guy your not going to pick but as always time will tell

extremely strange. from memory i think paddy was told he would be pick 1 prior to the draft, i just cant remember if it was the morning of or a couple of days before hand

i suspect it was a couple of days before hand because people like cal knew and said so on twitter

so my guess is they went and met mccluggage and told him in person

I think in McCartin's case, the Saints wanted to gently leak who they were taking with pick 1 so their fans could get their heads around the logic behind the decision as most were saying Petracca. I think it was a smart decision as Saints fans were happy when his name was called out. I think usually they haven't been told prior though, Weitering wasn't told last year.

Weitering might not have been told but the rest of the nation knew.

We might have mucked up the Gibbs trade, we might yet have mucked up Jarman Jnr shenanigans, but I'm much more certain that we mucked up pick 17 last year.

We only took Doedee with pick 17 because that was our last pick in 2015 ND but reckon we could have swapped 17 with another club for say a late 20s plus a 2016 pick upgrade and still drafted Doedee. We weren't thinking there!

Except that we originally bid on Himmelberg at 16 and probably didn't expect GWS to match, and would be much more likely that they match a bid at pick 27+. Also you're assuming that no other club thought of highly of Doedee, for all we know another club was planning on getting him with a pick in the early 20's, Brayden Sier was almost a complete unknown and went at pick 32.

Do you reckon clubs will stay away from drafting any high end picks from interstate, given the most poorest excuse in the book of homesickness, i think it's a possibility.
Well there's one top QLD talent for 5 top 10 QLD picks, so I'm guessing no.

Clubs will generally back in their processes to retain a player. They're got to as well. Can't compete if you aren't taking the best available, particularly in the early stages...
