Damian Barrett shoots down a Trade Radio caller wanting to ask about Fyfe because "Fyfe will definitely be a Docker next season so it's not something we'll be talking about in this trade window", then returns to his favourite topic of "Isaac Heeney will be targeted with $900k offers next year"...

It isn't crap punter.. I agree we hear this constantly but just look at his age, his experience, all the factors which suggest he's now getting to that crucial point in his career where he either shines or is a bust.

KPP tend to take a while to develop in any event and he's at a good age now & been in the system a while. He's had to go from carrying our fwd line to helping out our defenders to being a makeshift ruckman at times... IMO, even given this constant re-branding & need to re-focus he's still showed enough to suggest the talent/skill level is there. The potential is there. You know it. The biggest problem has always been his durability. IMO, it looks like he's worked hard this time around to get himself physically prepared before coming back.

I just find it interesting the club has openly & enthusiastically invested in him. It's the club that sees him train, knows his body & his outlook/potential for further injury. They wouldn't have made the call so enthusiastically had they not seen something to tell them a payday was on it's way.

"Biggest problem has always been his durability" - actually his biggest problem has been his inability to contribute consistently even when playing almost every match in 4 out of the past 6 years.

I know that Longmire loves Reid. Apparently he does a lot of the 1%ers and team sacrificing stuff that don't get noticed. I must admit that I don't notice them.

Surely there is an elite kick in the league somewhere that we can get for one of our first rounders
Heeney and Mills are pretty elite kicks imo. I'd be happy to see the club move them to the midfield next season, have Reid (hopefully) fill Heeney's role in the the fwd 50, and bring in someone to replace Mills off halfback. Sadly it looks like we won't be trading anyone in.

I notice them. Reid is one of our most important players. I'm thrilled they're trying to extend his contract. I hope his body gets right.

As a tip, look for his hits/knocks to advantage. Also look for his ability to stay alive/active in a contested situation. And look how often the result of that is a shot at goal to another player.

Yes...... and I agree with your analysis. KPD or KPF should be highest on our wish list for the reasons that you have given. My issue is that if you target them, it is possible that they will be gone before pick six or seven and your strategy has just yielded you zippo. You would need to have nerves of steel to guess the draft order so accurately that your target was available at your selection. That is why you need to target a player and then look at the clubs ahead of you and assess their needs. And that's what Tom Harley is probably doing right now. Pacy outside midfielders with great delivery - not quite as rare as KPF or KPD, so second round picks should do it for us.
The Bravedogs just won a premiership without much contribution from KPF or KPD's. Besides, our team has got all the key areas covered. Our main area of concern is just consistency. Yeah we're slow around the midfield and not great kicks but we almost beat every top eight side this year. Our midfield can stand up to anything thrown at them. The issue is that when they have their down days, it's all crickets. Against Richmond in round 8, we were missing JPK, our midfield was beaten. In the GF, Parker and Hanners were MIA, and our midfield was beaten. They just need some help in there and it's really the only thing that's cost us the last two flags we contended for.

Does anyone know how many spots we have at the moment? I know we've got a bunch of rookie upgrades which might chew up a few.
We have 30 players contracted for our senior list for 2017 at this stage (that includes Papley and Newman being promoted) and if you assume we have already re-signed AJ and Xavier that becomes 32.

So "if" we also re-sign Towers and Nanka we would have 4 spots available (thus 4 picks) and a decision to make on Abe Davis and Hiscox as at least one will have be deleted for us to use our current 2nd Round Pick, let alone swap it for an upgrade.

What about all the other missing years you haven't included?

You have to take into account playing while injured &/or after limited preperation. He has constantly had a week off here & there. As a young kid still he has missed a fair amount given his age IMO.

They couldn't stand up to the pace of GWS and Bulldogs. We lost 4 out of 5 games against them this year. Unless we fix that we won't improve.

Reckon the doggies KPD's did a great job. Nobody no names collared Tippo and kept the Bud to a goal. They had great assistance from umps and our bombs and our lack of structure...but their defenders did the job. Really hard to believe.....I still shake my head.

In the football media there are many types that I would like to clip on the Rin Tin Tin
( Thats ryming slang for chin for those younger than me and Bedford derived from a TV Show about a Dog )
Gerard from 360 and the ABC would be the exception. Astute without Ego.
This Goose Barrett really is scum and actually goes to lengths to not only try and break the exclusive that is not really there but actually makes up shit that can cause angst between players & clubs and most associated with them. This is typified with his gutter trawling attempt in saying Riewoldt wanted out of Richmond and Richmond wanted him gone. No truth to it at all. He has continually made up shit about Buckley and other clubs and now it is our turn to put up with his vindictive shit with Heeney. Yes he will be out of contract and yes he is going to command a price but 900k for only his second career contract and clubs will pay it and take him away !!!! Give us a spell your 4 eyed Henry The Third !

When idiots talk shit for long enough you get another set of idiots who think where there is smoke there is fire and all of a sudden clubs, players and managers are in dispute and noses out of joint. Might seem a bit far fetched ???? I have seen this happen many times before all be it at a lesser level but none the less it is human nature. Get Heeney signed asap put it to rest and expose this trouble making ****wit for what he is. A Bloke not fit to be writing for a half page sports section in a local rag. Oh ! And somebody that needs a clip on the Rin Tin Tin.

Losing a GF is disappointing at the best of times but all of the above magnified the disappointment because although I was not cocky about us winning I thought we had them covered. I suppose having them covered came with a Proviso and that was that if our topliners played well they weren't beating us. If this was the case even the umpires would not have stopped us because our topend talent would have been too much for them. Not the case though they won and I am still scratching my head on on how the **** they did even though we had so many down on the day the game was still winnable. Move on though and make sure we go one better and the group get out of themselves what they are capable of and deserve.

20-30% of the AFL's players are uncontracted after 2017!

Nonsense by these idiots to bring Heeney's situation up now considering we normally sign these boys up not long before season starts or just into it.
