We should hopefully find a way to get SPS (or another top 5 draftee), Brad Hill and McCarthy all this trade period with some change to use on some speculative prospects. I'd love to add Jack Martin to that list but unless we are trading something of considerable value I can't see that happening and if we did I doubt it'd be worth doing yet.
It will require us to trade out some players, including those we'd like to keep (eg Langdon). I still think splitting our first pick in to two would end up a dumb move. The one thing we desperately need is better kicks and not coincidentally those best kicks are almost always found right at the start of the draft. I'd love to have English and even trade for Hogan but if our kicking remains poor then those players probably won't provide as much impact to our scoring as we would expect. We have an opportunity to recruit two elite kicks and a good young inside 50 target in just one draft and I think we should take it.
I don't want Brad Hill primarily for his running, I want him because he lowers his eyes coming towards 50 and doesn't just kick in hope. SPS on the other hand I want because he is a balanced mid that is all class. Mundy is our best kick from the inside and he isn't going to be around forever - we need to rely on more than just SHill once Mundy goes. The two Hill brothers and SPS delivering inside 50: to good contested markers in Fyfe, Tabs, Apeness and Yarran; to Walters and McCarthy who seem good at finding space inside 50; and add in elite x-factor Bennell, Weller and Balic off half forward and we are going to have a far more dangerous forward line without needing to add even more talls. Sure it might take all of 2017 to come together properly but I think it's the ideal mix of players forward of centre for many years to come (ie sans Pav, Mayne and Ballas).
