I'd thought about this previously, if Freo are keen on multiple picks and McCarthy they could approach GWS to give pick 3 + 39 currently for pick 8 and 17 leaving some change for GWS in points - if there is a compensation pick in the 20's try that as a sweetener to get McCarthy. 8 and 17 could be English/Marshall if wanting tall even and then if keeping WA Rotham/Logue/Bolton which isn't too shabby.

Another angle is Freo should hit up GC picks 3,39 and 57 gets 2,862 points. That's around pick 6, 28 and 40....dunno gives us a slight upgrade and that is without potential compensation picks. Not sure if they want something experienced in terms of a player nor what we have as 'talent' to offer.

Hypothetical but obviously relations with GWS weren't the best last year.

There are plenty of 18 year olds who could do as well as Hannath, who gets beaten in the WAFL most weeks.

I'm pretty sure we only gave Clarke a 1 year deal because of injury concerns. If he's injury free after this season I am sure we will try pretty hard to convince him to stay, but it seems unlikely given he'll still be behind Sandilands for another season or 2.
Whilst most of us would agree Hannath is not AFL standard, its just making things up so say he gets beaten most weeks in the WAFL. When he has lead or split the ruck, rather than spending more time forward, he has mostly beaten the oppositions. Only time he didn't I can recall recently was against East Perth a few weeks ago when he and Griffin were shaded by Giles (AFL listed) and Johnson (ex AFL listed and multiple state representative ruck).

Anyway, the games stats all listed here: http://www.wafl.com.au/games/

Maybe you'd like to do us a favour and point out these 18 year olds who can do as well as Hannath to our recruiters.
Paracleet has got it right. 18 year olds don't play ruck in the afl.

Prestia nominates richmond...the silly silly bastard
Talk about being desperate to go back to Melbourne town! He could quite possibly be watching future Gold Coast finals campaigns whilst Richmond continue in nowhere land.

Gold Coast got smashed by injuries but the talent on the list is obvious (still remember r2 against us).

I haven't been a fan of Jack, particularly the pace and turning circle issues. I thought his game against Subiaco was the best I've seen from him (13D, 4M and 47HOs). The connection between he and De Boer for 3 quarters of that game was outstanding. He also provided an option in transition from the D50 and helped to link up play. On that basis, I think he's useful depth. We need 4 rucks on our list and if Clarke goes, it still leaves room for a Witt type or a young project ruckman. There are some AFL ruckmen in their late 20s or early 30s who were pretty ordinary at 24 years of age. Sinclair played 4 games in 2014, the year he turned 25 and averaged 10 disposals and 8.8 hitouts to go with 0.5 goals per game. Not saying he's a great player but Sydney traded Jetta for him and he's definitely worth a spot on our list or Sydney's. Maybe Hannath can get to that level over the next couple of years.
Im not sure we need 4 dedicated ruckmen. Our preferred setup would be Sandilands and Apeness. Do we really need 3 ruckmen at Peel?

2 and 1 on the rookie list in case of LTI would be plenty

We need to run three talls in our forward line. If you are advocating Tabs, Apeness, McCarthy as our three talls then Apeness is the 2nd Ruck option as you have it. But our forwards have limited experience so I would expect to see Griff or a traded in ruck (Lobb, Witts) play with only two of Tabs, Apeness or McCarthy.
IMHO I expect to see McCarthy play more as the third tall and not really as either a CHF or CFF.

Clarke is a free agent ( no club has to trade for him ) who signed a one year deal at end last season and in hindsight that looks foolish, he should've got two or the punt. If Clarke goes Hannath must stay or depth in rucks is woefull and can't be filled by a 18 year old draft pick. At times I'm not certain we looked far enough in advance when doing our selections.
The one year deal was smart I think. Gave him an opportunity to impress which he didn't. FA is going to be the most likely way we would get any compensation for him, otherwise he would just walk out. I really couldn't see meaningful trades offers for him.

For sure we need to stock up on rucks. English early and Goddard later suits me. Goddard closer to being physically ready, English with the higher ceiling.

Zac only wanted his contract up to his FA. He requested the one year extension for the very reason we are seeing now.
Good Luck to him. We won't suffer because he leaves.

If I could play for any AFL team it would probably be Richmond or Collingwood. All the off field benefits of playing for a super popular Melbourne team without having to work that hard.

I wouldn't go 2 rucks in the same draft. By many reports next years draft is full of tall talent, rucks and forwards.

Either go English early or Goddard late. Not both.
Who knows Sandi may go again in 2018, highly unlikely but you never know.

We must improve our tall defenders. Need to find a creative tall.

Does anyone see us trading pick 3 at all with GWS?

Opinion on:

Option A
Out pick 3
In Lobb, McCarthy and pick 16 (use on a tall defender)

Option B
Out pick 3 and future first 2017
In Lobb, McCarthy, pick 16 and pick 32

Option C
Out pick 3 and future second 2017
In Lobb, McCarthy, pick 16 and 32

Option D
Out pick 3 and future first 2017
In Lobb, McCarthy and 16

I've scaled them on what I believe to be a scale of best trade for us to worst trade for Fremantle. The fact is option D may not even be looked at, if GWS decide to just hold their player.

Anyway, in any deal involving our pick 3 I think it's imperative that we get a late first rounder back. Failure to do this would be incredibly negligent for any potential deals in 2017 onwards as we'd have effectively traded out 2 firsts in 2 years.

Does anyone see any of the proposed deals even getting a look at by GWS? Would we do it?

Who can tell? So many unknowns - is Lobb genuine about leaving, would GWS prefer players over picks, does Bond feel compelled to pay market value for McCarthy?

If I had to guess I'd say GWS would like Option C but I'd rather phone a friend. Better still, I'd rather lock away all our 2017 draft picks when there's said to be more defenders and top end talent available.

Yeah bucket load of unknowns. All the whispers are saying McCarthy for a second rounder, so by offering 3 for Lobb and McCarthy we're essentially over paying on Lobb or squeezing more out of the McCarthy deal. Depends on how they wish to view it.

Obviously number 1 is does Lobb want to leave and will GWS even sit down and discuss.

Chances are we will have pick 4, not 3 so it might make a deal giving up our first not look quite that bad. Can't help thinking getting McCarthy cheap will depend on what WC do about him.

For less than 16.5 premiership points in a season - under the old system.
Oh Yeah that's right. Would have been perfect for us this season.
The new system they are considering, of giving an extra second rounder to all of the bottom 8 seems rather generous though.
