He's said himself on 6pr apparently

Not getting a contract
On 6PR he said Freo haven't come to the table with a contract yet so he is exploring all options (as he needs to). It doesn't look good (more likely to leave than stay) but to declare he definitely won't be with Freo is jumping the gun. Twitter guy is probably an alias for Hackdorn.

My 2 cents is Freo are waiting till trade period to see what we can get. If nothing useful sign him up for another year..... Great bloke. Listen to his latest podcast with Lukey Mac, it is a great insight!

EDIT: Here is the 6pr thing

Barlow is still a class player. In his last 5 full games for Freo (Rounds 10-14, averaged 29.4 disposals per game) he was listed in the match reports as Freo's best twice and 2nd best 3 times.
It does seem to appear that Freo want to use him as trade bait ... which I hate ... Freo are a much better side with him in the starting 22.
Freo's midfield has been a major key to our success in recent years (2013-2015).
I still see Fyfe, Neale, Mundy & Barlow as elite midfielders, classes ahead of Freo's next best inside contested possession midfielders. Connor Blakely arguably shows the most promise, but he is still a fair distance behind those four listed above.

If Barlow does get traded, then Freo need to be rewarded with a late 1st round pick or very early 2nd round pick. Anything less is (for me) an obvious loss by Freo.

depends how you see it.

I am dead certain clarke, who is in his prime years, will leave. Griffin and Sandi are old. Hannath is the only other ruck in his prime years but he is crap.

Apeness is more of a forward than a ruckman which is fine.

If we gain an 18-19 year old ruckman in this draft, That means for the next 3-5 years, Hannath and Apeness will be our 2 main rucks.
I see it more in this vein.

Out: Clarke, end round 1 pick
In: Lobb, end round 2 pick.

If someone told me I could down grade a pick by 18 spots and swap Clarke for Lobb I would sign quicker than wink.

Why would Michael want to play outside of his best position here for less money if he can get a midfield spot somewhere else?

The worst thing that can happen is Lyon directs Lloyd that Barlow will be full time inside mid for the next three years, so he is signed for two, then played half forward again so Blakely can let his man run around without pressure in the middle.

The big question is what pick with SPS go at?

I think he could slide to 7-8 unless he improves a bit, or stars at the draft camp.

Still it is a massive risk to take, trading down a 3 or 4 picks hoping the player you want will still be there.

Pick 3 for Pick 8 and Pick 21 (from GC) would be tempting.
Actually I think the question is a bit different.

If SPS goes before our pick, who else do we want? Where are they going to go. ie. If we really want one of couple of the players who will go top 5 then we don't downgrade. But if we think that those likely to go top 7 or 8 will not work for us then we downgrade. I guess my thoughts are that whilst there is the points system, essentially picks are worth what you can get with them.

People are automatically going to say of course we want want whomever is a genuine top 5 slot. But remember the Winguard controversy. Essentially pick 3 was only useful for port and everyone knew it which is why he slipped. There are lots of reasons that ability makes someone a top 5, 10 whatever but they just will not fit with your club.

I'd like McGrath, McCluggage, Ainsworth, SPS, Brodie in that order.

Barlow at Hawthorn would be up there for the Brownlow.

Would also make me vomit.
I will literally fight Hawthorn if he goes there. All of it. The club, the brewery, the whole bloody suburb. Come at me.

Fact is, Barlow probably won't be in Freo's best 22 in 2-3 years time when we're hoping to challenge for a flag. Also, there are a lot of players to come back in to the side from injury and new draftees etc.

He is not very diverse, he's an inside mid and nothing else. Keeping him in the side would hinder the development of other players as well as the team particularly because he can't play any other position. Him playing high half forward has has been trialed for years with not much success.

Barlow is a sensational character and a top club man but for the betterment of the club as a whole and into the future we need to deal him come trade time.

If true, I think this is the biggest mistake the club has made in a very long time.

It is so god damn crucial to have a guts player in the side, Neale and Mundy (and Bennell, Hill, D. Pearce etc.) are not those ball winners. Fyfe is suited to a different style as well. I believe we are infinitely better with him in the side.

This club has played him all over the field, dropped him ahead of guys like Suban and Pearce (where he went onto accumulate a million disposals), and kept him from his natural role.

Absolute disgrace.
