The assault charge combined with the fact his form has declined from a couple of years ago probably means he wouldn't be of interest to us IMO, certainly not for a decent draft pick. He's out of contract in 2017. We'll talk in a year. Until then he can stay at Hawthorn.
Lol wut.

Of course he'd be of interest to us, unless he was going to jail. He's exactly the kind of player we are begging for.

If you think the assault charge changes anything you have a lot to learn about professional sport.

Pickett's foot worries me. I must admit I know little about the injury but foot injuries have the potential to end a players career. Until he recovers and plays footy again I wouldn't take the risk especially for a first rounder. We can get McCarthy for next year's second. Pickett can wait until next year when his contract is up and we can get him for a second rounder.

IMO we shouldn't really be trading for too many players this off season, McCarthy aside, unless of course we are getting decent players on the cheap. We'll need the draft picks to build a future team around. Most of the players we are talking about here are worth at least a second rounder. If someone like Litherland can be obtained for a pick downgrade or late pick then I guess why not but don't really want to be trading our first rounder and/or Mayne compensation pick (assuming it's a second rounder) unless we get a slightly lower pick back and even then I'd think twice about trading a top four pick.

I feel like Brad Hill is the type of player who looks good in a Hawthorn side but will look crap in ours. The Hill brothers might enjoy playing together though. But then again, Brad has just been charged with assault so I'm not sure I wanna go there...
Looks good when everything is going well for the team. When the going gets tough, he is missing.
B Hill wouldn't work hard enough under Ross.

How's his job security with you blokes? Likely to be part of the furniture for years to come or...?
That an interesting way to put it.
He is OOC. I think he only signed short term last time to see if we would utilise him , the faith shown this year one would think that he now feels a part of the side, not a door knocker. Of course anything and everything is up for adjustment as time goes on. On our board were trying to work out what he be worth, so I was interested what you would try to entice him with.

That's was an excuse to get out Brisbane, he was playing neafl and never looked much chance of playing in front of Martin and Luenburger at the time. As I said I don't really rate him but just throwing up names who might be approachable, tradeable. Saints could use a hard mid, deboer, Barlow, Suban type.
Brisbane promised longer game time

As for deboer barlow and suban. Barlow doesnt meet the age demographic and deboer and suban are foot soldiers which we already have enough of in spades.

If we lost longer we'd be wanting something significant. The way you guys value someone like pearce or weller is how we value longer. Longer is still a baby in ruck terms and is seen as our best luck prospect given hes a pick 8 selection

Apparently they see longer as a better prospect long term. Longer wasnt ready come round 1 due to rehab from injury. Since then hickey has been very good bar the wce game, so he has kept longer out of the side.

I think they want hickey and longer to be pushing each other and fighting for spots

Lewis pierce is one to watch. Developing nicely as a project player

Saints would be mad to let go of any of them tbh.

There's no way we're getting Longer.

Spot on. Emma quayle explained really well our ruck situation in her book. They had an emphasis on developing their own ruck stocks which is something we hadnt done for a while

We may lose one of them later on but i think we will want to keep both for the time being

You think Clarkson carries a guy for 3 premierships who doesn't work hard enough?

No. I didn't say that.
What I meant was the Ross Lyon game plan where much more running and defensive running is demanded.
I really don't see Brad having that energy or drive. Simply put, I consider him a front runner of sorts.

I reckon Ross would not have any interest in him.

Running is his strength.
He's a touch physically soft, but he runs his guts out. Both ways.
Well camouflaged. I haven't seen it.
When Hawks are on so is Brad. When they need a call to arms, Brad goes missing.
Therein is the problem that makes it difficult to assess his value, they usually are dominating games.
Having said that, he isn't flying this year.

Maybe another Headland ( Kerr ) , good in a great team not so much in a team that is not so great.

TBH I'm still not convinced he's anything more than a 3rd tall and I think McCarthy is a superior version, probably need to watch more of him but I think there are other guys more suitable that we should be pursuing.

Well camouflaged? It couldn't be more obvious. You need your eyes checked if you haven't seen the power of running that comes from Hill, Smith and now Hartung.

And it's a chicken/egg scenario. You could argue Hawks dominate because of Hill/Smith. Two of their most important players. Obviously they need the team to help them out, but the hard work done by the tough nuts needs to be complemented by players on the outside. It's a group effort, you need players of all types.

I agree you need a good mix of players, inside / outside but I'll stand my ground on this one. I reckon he is a front runner. For perspective I reckon Stephen would absolutely rip it up in the Hawks team where Brad would fail in our style.
