McCluggage takes out the Morrish Medal.

Doubt that will make any difference to the way he's viewed but it doesn't hurt either.

Is it just my shit memory or does the Morrish medal seem to almost always go to someone not being talked about as a top pick?

Quite often it's the players who miss the Championship squads who pick up the Morrish, because they get more games at TAC level. Last year Clayton Oliver won it, who didn't play champs. i think our boy Nick Graham won it, who didn't play champs. But it also can go to the bigger names, Kreuzer and Dyson Heppell are two higher draft picks who have collected the award. McLuggage must have had some sort of season to pick it up off limited games.

Usually any kids playing APS and Champs miss too many games to win it. Also usually goes to undersized midfielders.

How this kid is not available to us through father/son is just wrong his grandfather played something like 150 games for us and his father 39 complete joke!
Grandfather Son rule? I don't mind it. Perhaps we get the same kind of 'dibs' on a player but with no/minimal discount?

Why is it a joke? His father didn't play the required number of games...

Considering his grandfather played 150 games i would have thought with his father playing 39 should be suffice ? Why is there even a number of games needed if you play 1 game at afl/vfl level youve played afl so therefore should qualify . Theyve changed the number of games to qualify for father/son about 5 times over the years . You dont think with 189 games between his father/gfather is reason enough that hes got a bloodline that bleeds blue ?

If we like Kerr enough our 2nd should get it done, watching the video highlights he reminds me a bit of Lachie Henderson. Will be interesting how he tests at the combine.

There probably should be a qualifier taking in grandfather playing . Obviously doesnt happen too often but i would think if you have 3 generations of men good enough to play afl the 3rd should qualify automatically for any club .

Folks around here were suggesting that *FC did it with Laverde, and then there's Wingard with GWS. I wouldn't discount that it happens.

Wouldnt be hard for a kid to act like a clown and put enough recruiters off in the interviews, but for a kid that is captain of St Kevins it would probably be fairly obvious what he is at.

Has to be rules in place and guidelines, and if you move the barriers then there will be people pushing for uncles, Father in laws.. If they were going to change the rule they should make it a brother rule.. Would be good to see a bunch of brothers playing together like we had with the Danihers etc.

Its not like he will go in the top 4, so the ball really is in our court and if we want him he will be available for us to take.

Collingwood could have said the same thing about Weideman last year. The draft is already compromised enough as it is without including grandchildren, if we want him bad enough we can still get him.

Yes exactly it is compromised and in huge favor of the new sides . Im staggered that people feel otherwise wouldnt be many other families so ingrained in a club than the kerrs .

If there was a rule in place like this last season and Collingwood had a free hit at Weideman, we would have missed out on Charlie Curnow and would have got the next player on the list. I don't like the vast region GWS have as an academy because they are just getting free hits at kids who have been playing footy their whole lives, but I actually think the academy's are a good idea. It is clear that the northern clubs have significant trouble keeping players, they do need some home grown talent so if we are increasing the talent pool through academy's I actually don't have a problem with them.
