Are we in a position to go for specific positions yet, or is it the best available player at the time of the relative pick?

Best available unless it's a KPB.

Assuming we get Marchbank, backline is sorted.

But the rest of the field needs serious work...

If it was based on what I saw today, I would take Taranto. One touch player that makes great decisions with the ball.

Scrimshaw was very impressive. I believe he can transition into a talented mid. Brodie's disposal is a concern. Long term I can see the likes of Taranto and Scrimshaw being better prospects

Also liked a couple of guys for later picks

Agree, taranto was super impressive today. Although, McGrath just looked a class above everyone. Would be wrapped if we got one of these two.

McGrath has surely done enough to be considered in the top two.

It's not just that he's had good games but he shows all the attributes you'd want from an AFL player....leadership included.

Only a few weeks ago, we would have screwed our noses at the prospect of McGrath. Now we're dreaming of getting him. :)

Dunno about screwing our noses, I've been on him for awhile... He has always been solid at HBF, now he's added midfield and doing it better than all comers atm....

He's out of our reach I think

1st Scrimshaw/Taranto 2nd Clarke/Florent, in that order for me

Just saying in general.
The minute I saw him I liked him, as I did Brodie, Scrimshaw, McCluggage and Worpel.

Who knows how the recruiters have weighed things up though?
We have the names that have put their case forward in recent weeks, but some like Venables & Drew may yet surprise come draft night.

We have so little info on players other than on-field performance.

Just in case we do select one of these players, I will post a link to the WAFL Colts Grand Final that was played today.
Petrevski-Seton (Claremont) had 21 disposals, 6 tackles, and 3 inside 50's in the winning side.
Powell-Pepper (East Perth) had 22 disposals, 7 tackles, 4 inside 50's and kicked 4.1 in a losing side.

Gee - just looked at some footage of Taranto at U/18 champs. Not sure that kicking style will hold up under AFL pressure ?????

Haven't seen the footage, but off today's game, he seemed to be hitting targets fine. Looks like a good decision maker, with good run and carry.

I forgot to record the tac cup game, can't see any repeats on Foxtel. Can't see it on afl site. Any ideas as to where to watch a replay?

FWIW I watched the whole game yesterday, thought Spargo (GWS next year) was best on for Bushies, closely followed by Brodie. Disposal and kicking for goal seems on par with Cripps, although Brodie looked to have a bit more pace around the ground, also took a few big contested marks up fwd. For the Dragons, Scrimshaw and McGrath were the stand outs. Scrimshaw looked clean and composed all day whilst McGrath accumulated possies at will off the HBF. I think McGrath will go at #2 to Brisbane and hopefully #3 is a bid on Bowes leaving us with our choice of the remaining Brodie, Ainsworth, SPS and Scrimshaw.

Knightmare now has Todd Marshall at 5 and no zone selections in the top 5. Assuming we pick keep pick 5, do you think we end up stocking up on KPP even though we have plenty it seems in development (along with Marchbank on the way) and are screaming out for a mid?

Marshall is not worth pick #5, mecurial yes, but also soft, thin shouldered and not a hard enough worker.

DO NOT WANT

Hopefully someone above us cries out for a KPF though.

Based on his game yesterday you wouldn't give a 3rd rounder for him (apparently he was good in the prelim though).

In contrast Sproule had an immediate presence when moved forward.

Be interesting if Brisbane pick up McLuggage and he is asked to pack his bags and move North.....

SO at this point, it looks like:

1. ESS - McCluggage still best pick and they won't hesitate
2. GC - Bowes (BRIS Bid, GC Matched) might be our best shot for Bowes bid here
3. BRIS - McGrath heard they're keen - would be great option for them
4. FRE - English/SPS firmly believe they should go with homegrown talent here, but could surprise
5. CAR - Brodie please please please

I think that this year is going to prompt reform in the bidding system. Brisvegas won't bid for fear of what GC does when the shoe's on the other foot. We saw last year when clubs didn't bid on GWS players as early as expected, that 'competitive' bidding in such a tiny market doesn't really happen.

They have nothing to gain by bidding so I can't see it happening either

Mills (SYD) was bid on early? Wasn't Hopper bid on as well?
Didn't Richmond drop a few names early on as well that forced bids earlier than expected?

The best hope for Bowes to be bidded on before #4 would be Freo with #3 (If they hold on to it). Would be interesting if the GWS got #3 (McCarthy deal, other trades ......) then put a bid on Bowes to i improve their later places (e.g. #7)

If Bowes WASN'T an academy player would we want him over Brodie or McGrath? Is Mccluggage that much better than him that Essendon won't be interested in a bid?

I think that's pretty much exactly how it will pan out.

Mills was head and shoulders above the other mids in his year, and I'm fairly sure Hopper and Kennedy took longer to attract a bid than anyone predicted. Could be wrong though.
