Let's not deny it, Dangerfield is producing footy at the moment that is just as good, if not better, than anything we've seen from Judd and Ablett over the journey. He literally does not lose contests.
Well he did lose a marking contest versus Crippa late in the Cats game... But I get what you're saying.

Don't imagine Caleb Daniel is a slouch and yet I watched him absolutely burn him off the other night. Sheer power and express pace.

Yep getting another key forward and avoiding mids would be lunacy, forwards are useless without someone to kick it to them.
I know it's opening a whole new can of worms... but I'm a big believer in needing a dominant midfield to be a premiership chance. Moreso than elite KPF (although I am bullish on atleast one of McKay, CCurnow, Jaksch and Stewart becoming A Grade).

Look at the West Coast 2006 model, Judd, Cousins and Kerr kicking it too..

So far this year Geelong's forward line has been average...the only key forward they have is Hawkins and he's been in and out of form...other than that it's frickin Shane Kersten...yet they are on top of the ladder. A massive part of that is their midfield, led by Selwood & Dangerfield being in everything, pumping the ball forward and kicking goals themselves.

Ultimately you need both lines to be good but we have invested in a lot of young KPP's and so it's time to start investing in the midfield...the only young mid to really get excited about is Cripps. Sure we have high hopes for guys like Boek and Cuningham but they weren't the absolute elite juniors like Brayshaw, Mills etc

Powell-Pepper doesn't strike me as Judd. More a less polished Rory Sloane (amateur eye mind you).

Venables is the powerful inside mid in this draft with a ridiculous ceiling but enough question marks to drop

Would be Terry-ble if we missed out on Venables...

(sorry)

Real positive that there is some good deep midfield talent in this draft, and we should be able to improve depending on how our trading goes.
SOS has a challenge - and we know how he typically responds...

Has signed a new contract I think... would love to have him in Navy Blue... but it isnt going to happen.

EDIT: Signed it this time last year... so end of next year I think.
He'd be more likely to head back west IMO. Apparently his family have been highly paid members of that footy club.

Liked the look of Zach Fisher in the WA vs Allies game on the weekend. Plenty of pace, hunts the ball, runs all day. Could be a bit of a Lachie Hunter or Luke Dahlhaus type.

If we can trade our way back into the second round (assuming our original second goes to GWS in the package deal) I think he'd add another dimension to our midfield.
I watched the first half last night and liked what I saw of Fisher. Really seems like a smart footballer. Wouldn't be opposed to getting him to the club.

What if we cut out the middle man, and just have the forwards in at the centre bounce?? :p

I've only seen the one game but Battle looked quite clunky and rigid to me.
Is that the type he is or did he just have a poor day?

Haven't seen Battle play, but i've heard the same thing that he struggles athletically. Not sure he'd be the type of player we should be looking at.

Its funny how quickly we forget about just how good past champions were and how quick we are to anoint there replacements.. This time last year Nat Fyfe was the next big thing and now its Dangerfield. Judd then Ablett had sustained that level of elite footy being in the best 3 players in the comp over a decade.

Dangerfield
He might get there but Danger has a long long way to go to even be close to being considered in the same sentence as Judd & GAJ.

That's lovely. I did say 'at the moment' though

Dangerfield

Not saying that I disagree with your assessment, but it's a bit disingenuous to leave out a list of Danger's best games.

Casboult, Jaksch, McKay and CCurnow. Potentially add Stewart.

Need an explosive inside mid.

So we have a guy who can't hit the side of a barn, another guy who hasn't played this year and hasn't kick more than one goal per season, another that hasn't played a game and one that played 4. Then there's a guy who not even on our list who only played 18 games in 4 years for 18 goal. The Hawks still took downer and thorp after they had Roughead and Franklin.

I don't think we need more mids but our biggest need is forwards bigs and small. They are so hard to get and develop that we need to cover our bases. (Look at freo)
