If we knew (and GC knew) that Brisbane would bid on Bowes, we could talk to GC about getting the #4 off them, with picks that would amount to the #4 (#13 would have to be in there along with a ~20 odd, or a player)

That would suit GC, I feel.

Essendon bid on Setterfield + Bowes (1 + 2).
Essendon take McLuggage (3).
Brisbane take Ainsworth (4).
Carlton get McGrath (5).

I find it completely devoid of integrity.

Agreed, but Essendon are making a bit of noise.

And as I've stated elsewhere I have a source, with family ties to Essendon at an executive level, who is adamant that GWS have been keeping a lid on Setterfield. Reckons he'll be one of the best mids to come through the draft in recent years.

If that line of thinking is correct, they may be happy to get him at 1 if they call GWS's bluff.

I wouldn't say it's a likely scenario, but it can't be ruled out yet.

Indeed I do! I was going to make the point I rate Bowes a little higher than Brodie because of his outside game; guess it just got muddled up.

Absolutely legitimate for Brisbane to bid 3 on Bowes. He is clearly good enough for Pick 3 and he is a Queenslander.

It is also possible for Brisbane to change their mind on bidding on Bowes if GC somehow decide to give Brisbane a good trade for Hanley

I figured that way GWS would have the chance to get two top 5 players without a nomination. It would help them out massively but i think it would help us a bunch as well. I know the difference is big but at least lyons is a goal kicking mid. I would prefer Crouch though.

They just want another deal to move down a spot in the draft (as they have just done with GWS) as GC have an abundance of picks, they will do very well out of pick 2. GC will end up with pick 3 and Brisbane will have 4.

With the need to reduce their list by 2, 5 top 30 (ish) academy kids and a want to select from the top 2, trying for another high pick simply means they'll get squeezed out by a club in another trade.
