Flowers, he is a very average footballer, is that what you really want?
He was rated as the best kid in the country for many portions of this year, he is still rated in the top 5 kids in the country. He is the EXACT opposite of a "very average" footballer lol

Does anyone know how the new Academy points system works, where you apparently can only use as many picks as you have vacant list spots?

GWS have #2 for McGrath, then 15, 37, 39, 45, 52, 55, 57, 58, 59, 60, 77.

Assuming Carlton bid #5 for Setterfield and Sydney bid #10 for Perryman, how do, or can, GWS match them?

Basically, under the revised rules, how do GWS turn that lot of Picks into Setterfield, Perryman and say Macreadie and Sproule?
#15 becomes Setterfield at #5, 37 gets knocked back a few spots to say #50 to make up the difference, maybe more, i haven't done the math.
#39 then becomes Perryman at #10, #45 gets used up entirely as well, goes to the back of the draft.

Then they have Picks #50 odd, #52 etc, they have to use all those picks on Macreadie, Mutch and Sproule. I assume they have the list spots, or maybe they can't use like pick #77 or something. They then take trookies or really late picks in the draft to fill up their list.

#77 has zero points value (and is unlikely to reach more than 40 points) but the rest, of which there is 11, require senior list vacancies in order to be used.

As of right now, GWS has 33/40 on their senior list, so they need to drop 4 more uncontracted players just to use those picks (#60 is worth 146 points, so there's a good chance they will do this).

Let's assume the two example bids:

Pick 5 has a value of 1878, this is then discounted by 20%, leaving GWS to pay 1502 points, which they can do with 15 & 37, leaving them with 93 points left over, which gives them pick 69, and everyone after the previous pick 69 shuffles back one.

In using 2 picks to pick one player, they still receive the residual points in the form of a pick.

Pick 10 has a value of 1395, this is then discounted by 20%, leaving GWS to pay 1116 points, which they can do with (depending on other bids) 38, 44, 51 & 54, leaving them with 190 points left over, which gives them pick 57 after the order reshuffles.

They would then still have #53, #54, #55, #56, #57, #66 & #74, a total of 1116 points to spend. Keep in mind that from pick 18 onwards, the discount shifts from 20% to 197 points, meaning that any bid after pick 55 is free.

Flowers, dig deeper mate, we could get the exact same footballer at pick 25, Clarke. Like Brodie, Clarke runs all day, inside beast and uses the ball a touch better. Difference in the two, Clarke is a slightly smarter footballer

Brodie has zero hurt factor with ball in hand

Real keen on Dylan Clarke with 25. Ball magnet inside/outside and can run all day both ways. Might not become elite, but would be an excellent no. 3 or 4 a few years down the track.

now that trades are over

My Draft Predictions

5....Will Brodie

25..Jordan Gallucci

48..Tony Olongo

63..Tarir Bayok

If they are the first 4 picks, SOS will be sacked

you think , i thought i was being generous as those players would be lucky to still be available at those picks. what you got for us ARR0w , lets see your picks

5: Taranto - One touch player that can play inside or outside mid as well as roaming forward. Has great vision, which helps when distributing the ball. Brodie has poor disposal by foot, kicks long but rarely hits targets on a consistent basis. Some say that is irrelevant, as he plays on the inside. His hands aren't that good and border on poor when using the left side of his body. If gone SPS

25: Gallucci, granted his athletic, but I have others ahead of him:

Cox KPD - another one touch player that will play from day one. Reads the ball well and is composed under pressure

Clarke: Inside mid, if you want bang for your buck, much cheaper option than Brodie

SPP: think X-factor, this guy comes to mind. Booming kick, who could be damaging up forward or around the ball

48: Haywood: Athletic forward, that has a good bag of tricks. I believe he will transition to spend some time through the midfield. A true footballer, very smart, reads the fall of the ball, doesn't need many opportunities to hurt you

63: Jye Bolton, won the Sandover, has been in an AFL system and is only 24. If he hasn't been picked up, would be more than happy to add him as a solid body mid

With a pick this high in the draft, we'll probably know who we'll get with pick 5 a day or two before it actually happens, it seems to have been working that way the last few years.
