And 70.

Given Hawthorn's first pick is in the 80s, there's zero reason for us to take the pick if we had no intention of using it.
Good point.

Forgot about Kerbatieh, would love to get him at any of our three picks after 48.

Something to ponder:

SOS has pulled some surprises with picks in this range (5). If there was a smokey, who would SOS pick ahead of say SPS, Taranto, Brodie, Ainsworth

My smokey would be Griffin Logue

No way. Not another back-man, would-be midfielder.

It has to be an out and out mid. Not Logue...Not Scrimshaw...Not Marshall.

We'd be mad to go past Scrimshaw if we were looking for a tall mid.

I'm starting to warm to taking SPS at #5. He has one of the smoothest kicking actions I've seen in a long time and is pure silk.
The thought of him on one wing and Pickett on the other... Cripps feeding it out to them... scary stuff for the opposition! Would mean we need to target an inside midfielder with #25 but I'm OK with that.

Ok well don't tell who wouldn't be the smokey, tell me which mid you would draft at 5 as a smokey

I don't think we need to reach at 5 when Brodie or Taranto will likely be there.

We may and it may be Logue as you say but why a back-man when we've well and truly covered our arses down back?

Don't forget where Fyfe was picked. Logue has serious speed and endurance for a big bloke. Solid, accurate kick and is an aggressive beast. He will rocket into contention come draft day

Maybe Sydney reaches for him at 9?

I agree with you. Didn't know anything about him two months ago but once I got a look.....I liked.

Just doesn't seem to me that given our situation, we need to reach for what is predominantly a lock-down but what I see could become an attacking back-man and in particular given we've just acquired a big ticket item in Marchbank.

Midfield...midfield and then midfield.

He did at GWS where he had a swag full of first round picks to play with. He doesn't have that luxury with us though and he will most likely play it safe with Brodie, Taranto, or SPS. If he does go a slight reach my guess would be Scrimshaw. Given he is supposedly in love with Setterfield and will put a bid in on him, it seems he likes his midfielders tall.

Also Arr0w, I like Hayward, but unless he's really a left footer and loves to take all his kicks on his right for laughs we shouldn't be looking at him with #48.

SPS can go in and win his own ball, he's a slightly-built mix. Would probably need to work a little on his running to be able to keep up his acceleration after the first few steps.

Not slow by any means, just seems to have built up his capacity by zipping in and around the contest, rather than loping on the wing. Looks a little uncomfortable when he does this.

Not sure what you mean, you don't rate his kicking?
Not on what I've seen (admittedly not much more than the highlights packages).

Really shanks a lot of them, and rides his natural arc/hook so much that his short passes and shots near to goal are all over the shop.

There's an 8 minute clip on YouTube where you can see him shank from less than 10 metres out on a few occasions, as well as some shots from about 30m out that look like some of Casboult's errors.

Everything else about him is good quality, and agree with your assessment except that he just can't kick. If we have an inside track as to why that is and can fix it, he might be a steal in the 4th round.

Where would a fit Pickett go versus this crop? Top10 or not? Top20?

What about Top50?;)
Pretty specific question

i guess commence by checking combine figures.......Picketts 20m sprint 2.80 was 4 th best ever in draft, and quicker than this yrs.His leap also compared to Rioli ....his disposal and tackling appeared significantly good
So he is going to run around and away from players as yarran did..

weakness.....he has been proven to be inconsistent, and lacks a solid fitness base for intense long haul games.

can we fix this once he gets back into the vfl by mid year 2017.

His action is sound, it wouldn't be an issue. Pretty much most kids have improvements they make with their kicking. Every year there are only a few handful that are elite, the rest need work to clean up their actions

He's genuinely Levi level with it, it's not a good look.

Need mids with our first 2 picks but given we lost 2 tall defenders we still need another. I would look at Garthwaite with a late pick if he is still there. Doubt GWS will nominate, but is a natural defender and despite his awkward kicking style is ok by foot

I guess my point was - we picked up a top potential player ( like all the kids being talked about in this thread ) - for a pick what was it?

SOS has picked up worst case better depth from GWS - worst case. Plowman / Sumner / Phillips are already startinmg 22 in Boltons books. SOS and Bolts were super keen on both Marchbank and Pickett - I'd back their call on both - speaks volumes for Pickett.

The rebuild with youth is going gangbusters - look forward to 5 and the rest starting next year.

If he can run again - he will be starting 22 by the end of the year - kid has factor X in bucket loads- as a runner. Will take a while to build an AFL tank - same for all of them.
