I wouldn't be surprised if Brisbane don't bid on Bowes, might have been an 'understanding' reached as part of the Hanley trade

I think we need speed to complement Cripps and Gibbs who have none. I would go SPS or Ainsworth if either available, chance both will be gone though.

One of either SPS or Ainsworth should be available, both are very talented and have plenty of X factor with excellent speed, just what we need, I truly over the moon about adding either to Pickett whom too has Xfactor and electrifing speed.
One more year of very good trading &drafting and we'll start to a serious proposition.

Hoping we get Brodie. Has a very high floor and I think him and Cripps could cause chaos for other midfields in the coming years. Good luck winning a clearance off those two.

It's exciting that we still have pick 5, looking like Brodie, Taranto or SPS. Personally, I am leaning towards Brodie but that is in a large part due to the fact I haven't seen much of Taranto. If Taranto is projected to be able to be a full time mid who can rotate through the forward line then he would be very tough to pass on.

Think Essendon only have dibs if Hisham isn't picked in the ND.
I has ask my boy about this as he is good friends with young hish, Essendon only have first options if he doesn't get drafted or rookie. Then they can take him as first pick for cat B selection. Apparently they are really keen and he has testing with them in the next months or so anything to get one on SOS !. Been supporting him all year hope he gets to us. The only way we can secure him if we draft him with our 60s draft pick and wish no else drafts him. I don’t think anyone will draft him as he was well hidden with the blues. But I wouldn’t take a risk and try pick him up as a rookie as Essendon’s have earlier picks than us!!

If we had picked Kerby in the rookie draft and he played the year in the 2nds as well as he has we'd be thrilled & ready to upgrade him. Seems a no brainer to grab him late in the national draft

It's going to be an agonizingly tough decision for SOS.

Brodie - The best contested ball winner of the three mentioned and it's certainly no stretch to say the best contested ball winner in the entire draft pool. Big, strong bodied midfielder who is a stoppage beast. Vanilla in the sense that he is not versatile. He doesn't push forward and hit the scoreboard like Taranto. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because what he does, he does very well.

Taranto - Solid contested ball winner (not in Brodie's class in this regard) but far more versatile and knows how to kick a goal. A bit of a late bolter so to speak. Where Brodie has the runs on the board over the past couple of seasons, it's really only the past few months where Taranto has emerged as a likely top 10 pick.

SPS - Clearly the player with the highest ceiling in the draft pool for mine. Absolute deadly kick on both sides. Watching him weave in and out of traffic is an absolute delight and his ability to do so is genuinely freakish. I love his vision at finding targets and he nearly always knows where his teammates are on the field. Whilst not scared of the contest, at this stage he is far more outside than inside. Has been inconsistent due to injuries and lack of WAFL seniors provides some small degree of unknown.

All three would provide something different (and I'd be happy with any of these three) for the Carlton Football Club. Will be fascinating to see which way SOS goes with this decision. Do we add in another stoppage beast next to Cripps to give him stronger support in there (Brodie) who is arguably the safest selection in the draft pool? Do we go for the guy who will likely start his career on the half-forward flank with rotations through the middle who has been a late bolter up the draft boards but who looks like he will be a a fantastic prospect if he works on his defensive running? Do we go for the guy who is absolute class, the most exciting player in the draft, previously talked up as the number 1 talent in the land just 12 months ago, and who could be absolutely anything at AFL level but due to him being from interstate could be a chance of returning home if he gets unlucky with injuries and selection? Or do we spring a surprise selection here and go a Scrimshaw, English, Marshall?

We have to nail our first 2 selections inside the top 30 this year. This is absolutely critical. Failing to do so will hurt our rebuild significantly. Our 3rd pick on-wards will be highly speculative so hoping for some magic here from SOS.

Will Brodie for me.

Another 190cm + midfielder, perfectly suited for finals. Him and Cripps standing in the center against the midget combo of Parish and McCluggage!

He is made of the right stuff that can't be taught. Surprised not more are onto this guy!

Well written, very balanced arguments

I see it similar, with a couple of variations: I try, which is very hard, to imagine what grow these kids have got 3 - 5 years time

Brodie: Does win huge numbers of contested possessions, but as you mention, he is a bit vanilla, not sure he has the hurt factor. Look around the AFL, most of the best contested/inside beasts have generally been later picks, with a couple of exceptions, Cripps. Mitchell, JPK, Priddis, etc. As mentioned previously, one of the like of Clarke/Drew would be there in the second round, or even Graham from SA, wins just as much of the ball as Brodie does and is kicking is of a similar nature, but his hands a better, would be there in the 4th round

SPS & Taranto: Both have hurt factor, different, but both could win a game of their own boot

Would use 5 for the likes of Marshall or English. Scrimshaw probably has just as much class as SPS & Taranto, if you were confident he could spend quality minutes through the middle, he would be right in the mix. bonus with this kid, he is already damaging off HB and has strong hands and a great left foot to play forward. The only other guy I would reach for, would be Logue, he will be able to play as a mid, has already shown that and is extremely aggressive with a huge tank

If it's thought Brodie hasn't reached his ceiling, and by that I mean some big mids at 18 domintate because they're men competing against boys, then it'd be hard to ignore him. Cripps needs the help.

In saying that there's likely going to be lots of mids at 25 but the real classy outside ones will likely be gone early so maybe you take PS if available.

I've finally decided who I want most in the draft. . . . . . . . . . It will be the player we select. :)
think you'll find he's shit, Harks......

Serious question- if these other blokes can do what Brodie does but with more composure, what are they doing in the 4th round?

It will be down to Brodie, Taranto, Ainsworth imo.

I don't think SPS will be in there thinking atm, as he is more polish on a winning team as Yarran was. We need strong big bodies at this stage of the rebuild, contested beasts.
That is my thinking too... Let's get Rioli's and Hill's after we have the foundation of a Hodge/Lewis/Mitchell.
