Cant see how Logue is anywhere in the top 10 at all.

Would be interested to know who your standout top 10 is given the nature of this draft.

This draft reminds me of 2003 to some degree where Cooney was number 1, followed by a HB with speed, run and carry in our Walker at 2.

After that it was a lottery and some of the better careers have been forged with players taken later in the draft

It is a given that the art of recruitment has improved dramatically over that decade, but I wonder how people would view a Mundy if they were to revisit that draft year.

Logue has all the attributes, in this draft pool, to be a very valuable selection, who I believe could have a solid 10 year career

Neither can I but sydney are at the stage where they can afford to be very specific with who they choose, they mighy rate Logue at 16 but moved up to ensure they absolutely get him at 9? I dunno they dont need Midfielders thats for sure

Assuming Ainsworth is gone it is Brodie for me

I see the negatives but I was bouyed reading how driven he is, wanting to be the best in the pool, and I think the prospect of having him and Cripps together is too good to pass up

He has been a strong performer for years so that's a good sign

SOS seems to be building the list with structure first and I see a big bodied inside mid as structure if that makes sense

Will Brodie has been a gun all year and has so many ticks next to his name he's got more of a capability to be a standout at AFL level than Taranto in my view.

We would be nuts to pass on someone who is rated by almost everyone as being in the top 3 total draft prospects, and by some only behind McCluggage.

To me it's a no brainer there.

SEN reported earlier today that Fagan is very keen on Ainsworth and more than likely Lions will select him at pick 3.

So sounds like pick #5 is either Brodie, Taranto or SPS.

I would take them in that order but if we have Fyfe coming then I would take Taranto.
I think Brodie will be a Cripps/Fyfe clone and Taranto's polish and F50 inside entries would be valuable if we already had Cripps and Fyfe.

Just taking a stab a long way out and not going to drop Academy players in as I don't think they'll effectively get in the way of availability, other than Bowes who will demand to be taken with one of GC's top ten picks

1. Essendon - McLuggage....................... Pretty sure with this one.
2. GWS - McGrath.................................. """"""
3. Brisbane - Ainsworth.......................... I don't think Brisbane are lying
4. Gold Coast - Taranto.......................... A Clayton type?
5. Carlton - Brodie................................. We'd be happy and fits in on needs basis, perfectly
6. Gold Coast - Bowes........................... Pretty obvious
7. Fremantle - English............................ Reckon they will go local and for this reason were happy to trade the #3 with little risk.
8 Gold Coast - Petrevski-Seton............... Another Clayton type.
9. Sydney - Logue ............................... I agree that this is who they're coming for.
10. Gold Coast - Scrimshaw ...................Yep. Another Clayton type?

I'm not sure if I read something about this somewhere but I had myself convinced that Tom Wilson was a sneaky chance to be drafted by Carlton Late.
Was this floated at some stage or is it unlikely?
Anyway I'm off into Sufferers Parasites to watch a Car Race.

Happy Gold Coast 600 day.

So we think Bowed doesn't go before our pick?

Essendon & GWS won't bid on him.
Brisbane may have little reason to do so and even if we bid, it won't change our selection.

That's just the way I laid it out as not so much a Phantom top 10, but who will get what in the current top 10.
Perryman & Setterfield may also be involved in the top ten but again, it won't change other clubs' selections.

One thing is certain. SOS needs to keep his cards very close to his chest this year! GC have picks 4,6,8,10 so we need to make sure nobody knows who we want. If we like Brodie then give the impression we like Taranto (and vice versa).

That woman who always gets the good info on who we are picking, needs to either be given false info or nothing at all!

In an ideal world, Bowes will be bid on before GC's pick, but if that doesn't happen they will take the player we want at 4 (if they like him). We need no leak this year!

Im sure Nat Southby will announce to the world who we will take.

It's the three "Clayton type" notes that make me think GC will take Brodie.

Not sure they'd go three outside mids in addition to Bowes. Better to one-up us with Brodie then grab SPS and/or Scrimshaw with subsequent picks.

Not sure if this has been covered, but with 4 of our picks being from 48 to 70, does anyone have any info on the success rates of picks in that area of the draft?

My assumption would be that 48 would be used on an 18 year old, and picks 63-70 may be used on mature state league types?

Gotta love picking after Clayton!

I would like Luke Bunker with a 3rd or 4th rounder. Really natural instincts and distribution in tight. Needs a couple of preseasons in the gym.

Brisbane will bid on Bowes at 3 forcing their rival's hand. You can bet on it and there's no way GC don't match with the next pick.

This will leave Brodie to us.

Lock it in Eddie.

I think there is a very clear top tier in this draft.

McLuggage, McGrath
Brodie, Taranto, Bowes, SPS, Setterfield, Perryman, Ainsiworth, Scrimshaw

That's a very distinct top 10 for mine (seven without Academy players)

Then after that its a bit more of a wider pool. Types like Venables, Logue, English Marshall or Rotham could go anywhere from 11-20 and types like Powell-Pepper, Simpkin, Gallucci could go anywhere from 15-25

Very interesting draft

But a clear top 10 for mine.

And Logue isnt in it.

If Brodie is a Vic boy then I'll prefer him. Cheque!

I tend to agree and am on the Brodie bandwagon. Reflecting upon past drafts, Carlton have had a tendency in the past decade to go for talent over reliability, with Cripps being the nor able exception. Menzel, Yarran, Lucas, bootsma, rainbow, bokehurst, Holman and so forth. When I look at the doggies midfield with the bont, mccrae, libba, Wallace and Daniel I see tough, natural footballers not speedy outsiders. In a developing team I want predictable, mentally strong and consistent footballers who can give a strong contest and get plenty of the ball week in and week out. In the next year or two when we have a solid base then we can go for the polish on the outside.

Brodie for me
