pick 5 needs to be elite and I think we require an accumulator in our team - All Australian elite

SPS is what 181cm and 76kg and has good games of mid 20 possessions - I fear against AFL bodies he will become an outside player only. Not sure that's what we need at the moment. Maybe Brisbane will though

SPP seems to have a bigger frame and may transition to the AFL better - don't know what the knock is but sounds like at 5 he would be a reach and I am little over reaching for WA players in the first round.

SOS - If Brodie is there at 5 snap him up and get potential at 25. If he aint then I fear our pick 5 could end up sliding with Academy picks being activated - might slide further if SOS chases inside mids
1 McLuggage (*)
2 McGrath (GWS)
3 SPS (Bris)
4 Brodie (GC)
5 Bowes (GC)
6 Taranto or Ainsworth or .... (Carlton)
Not concerned that SPS will have trouble with the bigger bodies. Indigenous kids adapt well due to their agility and elusiveness. SPP is a reach at 5 but does have serious x-factor.

I wouldn't worry about the Academy picks. I rate Setterfield in the mix at 5, after that.

Bowes/Perryman from 7 - 13
Sproule/McCreadie late first early second

Battle would definitely be considered at 25, I would like us to bid on Sproule if he is still there
We get battle look what our forward line will look like.... we will have to KPF and the mid/fwd you need in curnow small forward in sumner Pickett med fwd in silvagni may just need one more medium

"Brodie" like players taken in the top 10 in recent years.

2011 - Tyson (3)
2012 - Wines (7)
2013 - Sheed (11)
2014 - Brayshaw (3)
2015 - Oliver (4) Hopper (7)

I count at least one "Brodie" type in the top 10 every year. And i'd peg Brodie to be better than Sheed, Tyson, Oliver and maybe Wines.

Flowers are you serious?
All of those guys were much better than Brodie in there draft years

Brayshaw I would be willing to debate, but the others are far superior to Brodie

Not sure you can say Brodie is just a generic inside footballer akin to Mathieson. He does have some burst speed on the outside as well.

He wasn't being ranked as a possible #1 by idiots.
You need to re-read my posts, I never compared Mathieson to Brodie, compared the sentiment of them being overrated

Possible being the operative word, that's a real reach for anyone to rate a kid as number 1, when he is only 16. There are so many factors that change over the course of a year let alone a month

Oliver wasn't even considered as a 1st rounder mid way through last year, yet 4 months later he was in the top 6

Others that are overrated Laverde as a top 10 pick, were also wrong.

"He wasn't being ranked as a possible #1 by idiots" - Not sure who you are talking about here.

I see no issues with the comparisons. Brodie was the likely no.1 pick until the Clug broke away in the champs.

No way. Oliver didn't even make the State squad. Sheed? Sheed never had the x-factor that Brodie has, and he does have X-Factor. Brodie has put a better year together than Tyson did.

You just can't go past the fact that Brodie has been considered in the top 2 players in the country for the majority of the year by experts and analysts, sometimes even the BEST kid in the country. Those people are not stupid.

Brodie has agression, he has speed, which is something a lot of inside mids dont have, he has good enough disposal to play inside mid at AFL level and has all the other traits, awareness, clean hands etc.

Brodie is a footballer

Just a quick question: is there any truth to the rumour that Silvagni shook his head in displeasure when Carlton selected Boekhurst?
I was at the draft that year seated behind the Carlton table with Silvagni seated side on at the GWS table.

As a playing hero of mine, and given I couldn't get a front on view of the Carlton people, I was fixated on SOS for much of the night. I didn't see that reaction and I wonder why the GWS list manager would outwardly express displeasure towards an opposition club's selection.

I remember very clearly hearing a gasp as Boekhorst was called out on the radio. Was that from commentators or was that something you heard at the event?

I didn't notice anything at the event so I assume it came from someone wearing a mic on the coverage. I reacted more than the room and said to my father sitting next to me, BigFooty is going to go into meltdown.

Flowers, I am not saying that Brodie is not a good footballer, what I am questioning is his lack of class for someone to be considered so highly by "experts" Top 2 because of the amount of football he has been winning? Or what he does with it?

I have stated this for a while, I am sure I am the only one in the country that does not rate Brodie's class in the top 10.

Even better l will put it in the bragging rights so we can all move on

Kicking efficiency at the champs was pretty much the same and Brodie had more of a contested game.
Adding Brodie as an inside mid allows Crippa to go forward, something he did well at times this year. He creates scoring opportunities and his size makes him an awkward match up for opponents. It is clear we must create more scoring opportunities.

We definitely need a gun inside mid at every stoppage. We see what happens when our B rotation comes in.

Hopefully Cuningham, Boekhorst and Pickett on the outside will get more supply and Gibbs will be more inside/out.
