I don't get the Mathieson comparison with Brodie either. To me the player Brodie resembles is P. Cripps with those lightning handpasses, vision, awareness in the contest and evasion. Always seems to have an extra second to make a decision and it's almost always the right one.
His kicking is also much better than Mathieson's and, once again, like Cripps is effective without being outstanding. He's also smart enough to discern when it's the right option to kick and knows what he is capable of, which is a big tick.
As others have mentioned, he is aggressive, powerful, good overhead and will impact sooner rather than later; although he still has a lot of room for improvement.
I actually think it's hard to split him and McCluggage and it's lucky recruiters can because he is more suited to our needs and balances our list profile nicely. I think Brodie has gone under the radar somewhat and I'd be stoked if we ended up with him.
(Btw what is with recent draftees going under the pre-draft radar for us aka Curnow, Silvagni?)
