I can't really make up my mind who I want us to take with our first pick. A few options we are discussing will already be taken, I just really hope Brisbane bid on Bowes.
We get one of Brodie/Taranto regardless i feel. So im not too worried about a bid on Bowes. It would be nice though

The stats aren't overwhelming, he hasn't really featured in the bests or kicked many goals.

Is this pick based largely on potential?
I'm done sitting in the stand at preston watching players picked largely on potential - mrs kj aside............

Bontempelli featured in the bests more than half the time, and kicked 15 goals in 9 matches.

I haven't seen Scrimshaw play a full match, but if he has been unable to dominate TAC footy, I struggle to see how he becomes a star at AFL level?

Noticing there's a lot of love for 'Bruiser' Will Brodie at 5, just wondering if it concerns people that he can't hit a barn door with his kicking?!? If the rest of our midfielders were quality by foot, I might take him, but that's not the case. If Ainsworth wasn't available, I'd be looking at Taranto or Scrimshaw.

I have a weird feeling he might wind up one of the best in the draft.

If I had 5 ad 6 Id take Brodie and Scrimshaw. The sure thing and the bloke with the higher ceiling.

Sounds like he misses out on being in the bests because there are 3-5 teammates who are better than him ??? Why don't we grab one of them then ??? ........
This is the TAC bests we're talking about, not the AFLCA awards.

If only we'd traded...........

OK, OK, I won't chum the waters.
Everitt to upgrade our 1st three picks by one spot?

Good thinking. :thumbsu:

Wouldn't surprise me at all but we'll have to take a talent that has scope for growth and not a Conca as Richmond did.

McCluggage has the most tricks right now but Taranto and Scrimshaw may not be that far behind.

Brodie comes across as a 'what you see is what you get' player........not that that's a bad thing. We can't lose at #5. We're in the right zone.

We're back on market rates or plus now. We'll still likely get some nominations for a short while from some players from the SOS era but made to pay for them (though they gave away a heap for small change to others that should/could have been bundled up).
You are forgetting a player must want to come first. If McKenna, Ahearn or Stewart wanted to come to us they would have.

With a deep draft like this one, I'm coming around to the theory that we can take a punt on our first round pick and go for who we feel has the highest ceiling, as opposed to the "sure thing". In this case that means someone like Taranto or Ainsworth over Brodie. I'm really cooling on Brodie. I feel he'll do a job, but not go passed about ending up B+ at best. And if reports of him blazing away and turning it over are to be believed, well it's a no from me.

Taranto and Ainsworth may well turn out to be the best of the year. With our lower picks we can still grab a couple of sure things, especially if a Drew, Gallucci or (fingers crossed) SPP slides to our second round.

On face value, all of McLuggage, McGrath, Ainsworth, Brodie, Taranto and Petrevski-Seton have real star quality.
They are all very different types, but considering our lack of depth... we could do with either of them.
Unless we go a bit left field (English, Marshall, Scrimshaw) we can't really lose here.
