Not until we get our facts right and stop blaming the staff for all of Carltons woes.

People need reminding and the truth deserves to be repeated.
Don't worry there is plenty of blame to go around. Is there anyone here that thinks that all those at the club before SOS,Trigg and Bolton that don't deserve a pile of it?

We need to get to70K+ members to fix the finances. Once financial issues are resolved - there might be a whole range of better professional Directors that might be willing to join the Board oncfe they realise they aren't personally responsible for getting money through the door. Until that happens there aere a few old dogs on teh Board that will sit there because - Carlton isn't exactly a destination Club for Directors.
nor a **** off club for directors.......

SPS or taranto for me. The smooth mover of SPS will fit in quite well with Pickett. 2 WA kids with lightning speed roaming the wings with elite kicking skills will set us up for along time coming. But on the other hand how to pass up taranto a player with the whole package who screams out bontampelli all over again

That is hard to refute and that being the case you can't but arrive to one conclusion and that is that as much as those individuals may have been the issue, how did we end up with them? Answer that question and we'll be one step closer to knowing why we have been as poor as we have.

We have been a club that has been so slow to fully imbrace building a list through the draft.
Last year SOS got six 18yo kids into the club and will add another 6 in a few weeks time.
Just after 12 months since the club hit the reset button and SOS will have added 6 picks inside the top 25, plus Jack Silvagni JGM and whoever he takes with our 4 later picks this year.
He has also bought other young high end talent into the club like Marchbank and Pickett, with out selling the farm.

Think most of us would be pretty impressed with how our rebuild is going just 12 months in, really excited about the group of players we will be bringing in this year.

Yeah I didnt quite finish teh point I was trying to make about youth.

My expectations are that the young ones bond and develop themselves as a unit. The less they look to Murphy and Gibbs and Simpson and Kreuzer - the better for teh Club.

I reckon Cripps has already figured this out as has Docherty and they are both playing accordingly. You want Docherty to be bringing on the defensive unit and you want Cripps to be laying down the law in midfield. Someone has to take control of forwards- we are leaderless there- totally - I'd like to see Murphy play 70% in teh forward line - and lead them there.

Strong POTY contender.

I wonder what type of player Carlton will look for with pick 25. We desperately need midfielders and l keep looking at the likes of Drew and Scharenberg. Both are inside midfielders who aren't that flexible in terms of playing other positions.

We need guys who can win contested ball playing midfield. With the possibility Gibbs leaves next year we need pick 5 and 25 to develop in 2017 so they might be able to carry load in 2018.

Unless you are possibly elite like Brodie these pure inside mids are a bit out of vogue as clubs look for multiple position hybrid midfielders.

I can't help but think we need to have strong ball winners as we rebuild and with Gibbs leaving we might go after an inside mid at 25.

Go home factor wi be weighing heavily on recruiters minds these days I reckon.

I agree with this. It seems more players are content to stay at a club outside their home state only as long as it takes to establish that they can play, then they're looking to "go home". We've been beneficiaries of this (Doc for example) and victims (though Betts and Gibbs took a bit longer).
Having said that, there are plenty who do stay the course, but there's no guarantee. At 18 they're just rapt to get drafted. By 20, having played a season or so and become a tradable asset, they're already examining their options.

If drafting for long term future, try to draft Victorian players who are most likely to be in it for the whole journey and not get "homesick" on us.

You would think that whoever we take @pick 5 potentially changes who will be looking at with our 2nd.
If we took someone like Scrimshaw or SPS @pick5, then with our 2nd look at one of
Dylan Clarke, Will Drew, Jonty Scharenberg or Sam Powell-Pepper as inside ball winners.

Dylan Clarke was ranked 1st for contested possession in TAC cup averaging almost 17 per game.
Drew ranked 3rd

Yep. When building a list of young talent you need them to come through as a group.
In just 12 months SOS Trigg and Bolts have really gone to work at fixing the clubs lack of quality young players.
The talent under 23yo is starting to look much better.
Cripps
Docherty
Weitering
Plowman
Curnow
McKay
Silvagni
Sumner
Marchbank
Pickett
Cuningham
Byrne
KJ
JGM
So we already have a talented group of 14 players under 23 ATM, with 6 more draftees coming in later in the month.
I'm starting to see a really solid foundation being put in place.
We have some potentially elite level defenders, some potentially elite level forwards that are still very raw.
Now if we can just nail this up coming draft and add a few midfield guns to that list and we're on our way.

The other was Bootsma.

Gave his left nut to get back to WA.

Aside from getting on the scoreboard, he is probably the least like Bontempelli of all the midfield prospects in the top 10-15.

Have you watched him before?

So I know this is left field. But thoughts on Jarrod Berry at 5?
12 months ago, no one would have batted an eyelid, but he's not had the greatest form this year. There's a possibility he might be available at #25.

Its a good group.. But severly lacking in the midfield.. I am very keen on Kerr because of the family connection, but based purely on that i think its almost imperative that our first 2 picks are mids.

Watched the TAC Cup GF again and part of me was so disappointed we didn't end up with pick 13 which could've landed us Florent. In a dream world he makes it to 25 but no way he lasts until then.

Perfect mix of speed, toughness and footy smarts to be a quality midfielder. Bit like Parker (I know, big comparison)

What does everyone think of Zac Fisher? I just watched some footage and he looks impressive. Clean, tough with great skills. Reminds me of a Chad wingard type player in the way he moves...very classy. Does anyone think he will be around for our second pick?
Pretty impressed with the limited vision I have seen of him. A real no nonsense mid. Think he'd be worth a look at 25.

It is severely lacking in midfielders, but we are only 12 months into our rebuild.
In a few weeks time, I'd say we will be adding some high level talent into our midfield.
That will give us a group of 20 young players under 23yo, brought in by SOS.

So, who we drafting eh?

How good is Brodie? I've heard a few negative things about him recently that has put a dampener on him personally. I do like the look of Taranto and SPS.

If Ainsworth does slip to us at 5, do we take him?

From my limited viewing, Brodie looks great and would fit into the side Round 1. I see him as a Mundy-type who will aid Cripps in the clearances, growing into a dependable 200 gamer. Whereas SPS might take more time and have more risk attached to him but has a higher ceiling - could be every good as a Rioli. Taranto could be anything and deserves his bolter status - could honestly be taken in the top 4. Ainsworth unlikely to go at our pick - think Brisbane take him or he slides past us. Could play R1 in the forward line but think we go for a taller midfielder like Brodie or Taranto at 5.

Think Setterfield is a bid prospect for us but no way GWS don't match. He could be best player in the draft - yet another boon for the Giants.

If he made it close to our 2nd pick, the clubs that have picks just before us are Essendon Brisbane Saints and Geelong.
Have heard Essendon and Geelong really want KPF Josh Battle or may even consider Todd Marshall and Brisbane would like a running key defender like Logue or Rotham
Saints would love a player like Florent, no way he makes it pass them.
IMO he could go as high as pick 9 Swans, Florent would be a perfect fit for them.

I'd take Anisworth at pick 5. Best contested mark in the draft, has turbo pace, has elite field kicking and is a genuine match winner.
Plays as a small forward/mid, perfect for us.

See it's things like that. Someone having Brodie drop to GC at 11 makes me nervous about taking him at 5.
If he would drop to 11 it must be a stretch to take him at 5, no?

I would take Ainsworth at 5 if he falls that far. Who else would Brisbane take in his place? (I don't think he will drop, but hypothetically who else might Bris take?)
