The above page of discussion is why i haven't settled on a favorite for Pick 5 or made a selection in the Vote for 5 thread.

A case can easily be made for Brodie, SPS, Taranto or Setterfield at 5. Maybe even Scrimshaw.

5 is a great position to have.

I still can't decide. I doubt SOS will pick Scrimshaw(gut feel), but could easily pick any of the other 4 depending on all the background work they will have done on them.

Pretty sure the way things have shaped up that one of SPS, Taranto or Brodie will be a Blue. No great prediction there, but that's as far as i can narrow it until we get leaks from Quayle or eric etc much closer to draft day.

Can someone please point me to Taranto's outside game? I've not seen it.

He is far more inside.

As per WIKI

"The centreline and on-ballers form what is known as the midfield. In today's game, midfielders are generally separated into two categories: inside midfielders and outside midfielders. The inside midfielders' main responsibility is to win the ball from the stoppages and feed it out to the outside midfielders, who are generally the quicker, more elusive players."

Yes l think pick 5 could easy impact 25. I really like SPS and if Carlton did pick him l think it makes an inside mid at 25 more likely.

With the names you mentioned above disposal is the knock on most of them.

I watched highlights of Clarke and wasn't that enthused by what l saw. Reminds me of Mathieson last year. Vision and disposal not great. Too scrappy.

Powell pepper moves as well as anyone in the draft but his kicking when under a bit of pressure can be horrible. Spp could play multiple positions. Worries me he could be another tom bell with his disposal.

Scharenberg a an interesting one with his kicking. Looks better than than the others but can be a little ordinary at times. Technically looks ok and on many occasions looks very neat. But when kicking under pressure gets rushed and makes poor contact with ball(short passes that were floaters). Happened over and over again in highlights. I like his vision and decision making. Always sees an option.

I probably like Drew and Scharenberg the most of these lot.

I just wonder if we are seeing the most obvious options. Players that are obvious inside mids that played prominent positions in champs. Club may have a more nuanced view of picking contested players for Afl footy.

Dylan Clarke is a contested beast. He is your prolific ball winner, will get 30 possessions 8 clearances and 10 tackles.
If we don't take Brodie or Taranto at pick 5, we should really consider bringing this kid in Pick25
He is close to as good as Brodie at winning contested ball, Brodie is just a more complete package.
That fact that he isn't the best kick, doesn't concern me to much. If your drafting Dylan Clarke your drafting him on the contested stuff he can do.

I'd love to know what SOS thinks of Scrimshaw, if he views him as a tall midfielder at AFL level IMO he will take him at pick 5.
He would also fit the hybrid type footballer, that Trigg said we are looking at.

Reminds me of Matt Crouch - obvious deficiencies but a good chance to make it and be a real contributor.

Is that a complete, finalised list, or is there time for more to be added?

Either way, I think we'll only consider him with a late rookie pick if we've ticked off all our other, more pressing needs.
Monday 31 October 2pm - Rookie Promotion to Primary List; Retained 2nd & 3rd Year Rookies; International Scholarship Player; Alternate Talent Player Nominations; Club Notification of Rookie Players Not Accepting a Contract of Offer; Nomination of Draft Eligible Father/Son Players Lodged.

We can still bid on him - chances are GWS won't take all 9 due to points.
After pick 55, all their matching bids are free.

Would someone care to enlighten me on how many spots we have on our list to acquire DFA's + draftees?

Cheers.

Cheers.

We currently have 34 on the main list (Byrne included) 2 rookies (Sheehan included) 1 Cat B rookie (Korchek)

The rest depends on how many we take via drafts.
Which split we go with this year. (Last year was 39/5/1)
Whether we delist anyone from here on in.
Whether we pick up any DFA's

All up and as things stand, we have 8 spots open across the main & rookie lists.

Who cares if his tackle numbers stay that high and he keeps having multiple goal games.
Agree. Inside midfielder who tackles and can kick goals is something our team can do with. Also need to look at what development potential there is, and versatility. How many goal kicking midfielders do we currently have?

For those still in the Brodie camp, why wouldn't we just use Charlie as a mid if we wanted a bloke of his abilities?
I'm not in anyone's camp - I'm just curious what has seen Brodie slide from a potential Nº1 to slipping past us?

At the end of the day, we need to nail pick 5 with the footballer most likely to play 250 games. We've had too many drafts (Yarran vs Ziebell, Lucas vs Talia) where we've overlooked a good old fashioned meat-and-potatoes footballer for someone more 'gifted'.

Toranto is a VIC boy too.
Go home factor wi be weighing heavily on recruiters minds these days I reckon.

Spot on here Lace Out.

I have stated many times on BF that it was no accident only VIC boys were drafted last year.

Also note that WA boy JGM could have been drafted with the pick after Jack but club decided to rookie him instead (1 year commitment instead of 2) due to the go home factor.

Expect this to continue - big time!!!
