Aside from getting on the scoreboard, he is probably the least like Bontempelli of all the midfield prospects in the top 10-15.

Have you watched him before?

12 months ago, no one would have batted an eyelid, but he's not had the greatest form this year. There's a possibility he might be available at #25.
No chance , will go top 10-15

Bishops Phantom Draft

Just posted his Phantom with some interesting calls. (Post #3)
I wouldn't be surprised should we go down a path similar to the first pick, but can't see us taking what he has put forward with his second.

Harks, when I look at phantom drafts, I don't look at who gets selected at our pick, but more who goes in the 2-3 picks before and who goes in the 5-10 after. These are the guys that we likely could/would have access to.

I find most years there are about 30 guys that everyone thinks are top 20. Some just get squeezed out. Only when you do some kind of phantom draft (or the real thing!) do we realise that so and so isn't actually a top 20 prospect but could easily draft/slide to 25 or 30.

I also doubt we pick Kerr with our 2nd pick. But Bishop's draft has us having access to Drew, Scharenberg, Cox, Bolton (and others) that most people assumed would be gone by 25. Plus Battle, Florent, Galucci almost slide to our 2nd too. So I think it shows that you can maybe assume 15 players will almost definitely be gone by our 2nd pick, but everyone else is a possibility of being available (albeit on a sliding scale of likelihood).

And I like that. Instead of getting the 25th best player, we could easily get the 18th guy on our list - apparently more so this year where opinions vary more than usual.

95% of the time, you'll get a player you rated higher than for where you picked him up. That's just the way it works.
We'd be pretty unlucky to pick up the player we rate as the 25th best player in the draft at our pick #25.

I know it doesn't necessarily work this way but let's say we wanted a real talent and a grunt inside mid with our two picks.
If we take Brodie at #5 as the inside mid first, what talent are we going to get at #25?

If we did though take Taranto or SPS at #5, there's more than a good chance we'd get the an inside mid later, via Clarke, Drew, SPP, Drew, Fisher etc.
So which situation gives us the better chance of getting two quality players and the 'types' we want?

I may be wrong but this is the way I'm seeing it for now.

Cripps isn't a great kick either but he's a beast around the contest. Twenty handballs from him as a result of contested ball is gold. If Brodie can do something similar he's a must get.

I get the thinking but having 2 guys in the same midfield getting 20 handballs a game each isn't ideal and would lead to an unbalanced midfield.

Yep agree I Like keeping an eye on players in the vicinity of the suggested or so called our expected selections.
The quality and credibility these drafts from seasoned guys like Bishop , Chris 25 and Knightmare whom do volumes of work all year round are passionate and full of keen insights really appreciate their hard work and find them a reliable source of reference .

My take would be a SPS and then a Fisher , Mutch or Gallucci.
I'd be over the moon with those two picks absolutely add some real quality to midfield.
The though of SPS and Pickett adorning the Navey Blue is just too much.
Later look at a Bunker or Roughedge for nuts and bolts and I d like at a young Ruckman too.

Thing is if we're taking Brodie, it's for his contested ball winning ability, he will regularly get good clearance and tackle numbers.
What I'm saying is I think he's slow to get rid of the ball in those situations, and slow to evade the tackler. He needs to bullock in the tighter contests, or he's cooked.

That's not a good sign.

Berry? Not sure he will; he'll be 15-25, so he's a chance, but a small one. Hasn't really developed this year in terms of scope for winning possessions and breaking the game open.

Any chance we rookie list some of the delisted lads?

like Viojo Rainbow etc?
Didn't seem to be any talk about DVR, and I don't think he or Gallucci returned to training yesterday, but it was hard to spot all of the faces in the training group.

Wasn't talking about SPS, was talking about Dylan Clarke

Clarke or Drew finishing pretty high in the kicking test is promising for pick 25. Those are the guys you want slamming the ball on the boot from centre bounces out to a lunging Jack Silvagni.

I want Sam Powell-Pepper with our second pick if he is stay available. I understand he is a bit rough around the edges but we are desperately in need of some more grunt. Carton have had a perception of being fairly comfortable to play against. We don't really have any unsociable footballers. Losing Mitch Robinson has really hurt in that respect and I think if he is still available SPP would be perfect. A ready made footballer who could slot straight in. When he bulks up a bit he could be our raging bull that lifts in big games. Bloody love him!!

As I understand it Kerr is a good lead up forward but lacks agility at ground level. If that's true not sure we can afford that unless he drops to 48.

I agree. From what I've seen of Kerr he is a bit one dimensional. We could take X Richards to play a very similar role to him. However if he slides down the draft and we get some mids with our first 2-3 picks then it might be worth a gamble. Curnow will be a mobile half forward/midfielder. McKay is your big, mobile centre half forward who can pinch hit in the ruck. SOS will be a dynamic half forward/up field link man who is smart around goals. There could be use for a hard working, traditional lead up forward in this mix. It is all about balance. The best forward lines have a blend between x factor, mobility, strength and dependability

Kerr's contested ability is much better than Richards'. He's ahead of him in that regard. He's a possibility late, but not even at 48 IMO.

Would you prefer to stock up on midfielders for our first 4 picks? I mean, this is a midfielders draft and we already have a fair swath of average forwards on our list...Jones, KJ, Casboult, Gorringe. Does Kerr have more upside than any of those players? Or will he be like a Jones? One trick pony.

Gee I think people are really underestimating what's going to be available at our 3rd pick.

I'm really excited by the prospect of adding 6 draftees from this years draft.
Think we will get an elite talent with our 1st, a very good player with our 2nd or 3rd and some real value with our later picks.
