Would you prefer to stock up on midfielders for our first 4 picks? I mean, this is a midfielders draft and we already have a fair swath of average forwards on our list...Jones, KJ, Casboult, Gorringe. Does Kerr have more upside than any of those players? Or will he be like a Jones? One trick pony.

He is different to all those guys. I believe he would be more consistent than most of them

I'm with a few others and not really a fan of Kerr and his links to the club should not have any barring on whether we take him or not. He does remind me abit of Membrey as a juniour but and I would love him at my club.

I think he's an improvement on Casboult and Jones in terms of scoring ability if you get the ball in his hands, but whether he has the work rate to get the ball often enough is another question. He's probably going to edge them out.

Gorringe is a much more versatile athlete in how he can be used in the F50, and both he and KJ have the talent to be better than the rest. Work ethic and grasp of the pointy-end of our tactics is KJs issue, while Gorringe has some work to do on some of the basics.

Gorringe, however, is 12 months into trying to become a full-time forward. Let's review his status at the end of 2017.

He's shot up to just shy of 205 cms, but the query on him is his ability to leap over the average AFL ruck, or how to nullify that at AFL level (ala Kreuzer). His agility testing also wasn't great at the combine.

What is promising though is how good his skills are, and how good he is in front of goal. If he can win 25 hitouts a game but keep the other guy to less than 35 but with scrubbier clearances due to his mobility and read, he's going to help the team through midfield and drifting into the forward line.

The possibility is also there that you can just drop him at FF and he tears opponents up with his reach and straight line speed. I still think he's the first genuine tall off the board, which means he should go top 10, between Freo, Richmond and GC, but no further than Port if he slides.

I see English as a FF at the next level rather than a dominant tape ruckman. He has great foot skills for his height. If and when he puts on at least 15 KG he will start to have an impact.

A part from what I have read, has anyone viewed live the young forward Battle?
or can give some insight to how he plays, how many goals he has kicked, accuracy etc?
Looks like a big strong forward, which is what we need (replace Cas)
Could he still be at one of our picks, or do we just concentrate on midfield types this draft.
Thoughts appreciated.

I'd be surprised if English slides to Hawthorn, Jim....

Take the midfielders in this draft absolutely, certain they’ll all won’t make it.
So in the end if we can land 1 elite and 2 or 3 very solid contributors, big win and our centre square is set for years.
So Defence and Midfield looking much stronger.
Last piece of the puzzle quality tall KPF apparently there’re plenty quality tall players next year draft and Ben Silvagni around the corner too.
If the Gibbs trade go ahead we have access to at least 2 very good tall players plus Ben.
Forget the Romantics, if there are better options than Kerr go for the Mids.

Just can't get enthused for any of the KPF's just yet, but maybe Battle is much more than a KPF......if you want to take that risk.

I think I pointed out here a few weeks back as to the lack of quality KP forwards that come from middle to late draft.

That may well change tomorrow but it's rare to find a quality KPF come from down the draft order.
Hogan..Daniher..Lynch..Kennedy..Franklin..Patton..Boyd..and then possibly McCartin & Schache, all taken at the very pointy end.

These fwds are found all over the draft.

Most of those guys aren't what you'd classify as KPF. (e.g.) Gunston, Membrey, Darling, Lynch and the other guys are moreso complementary forwards and in the case of Tippett, a ruckman, rather than absolute first rank forwards. (e.g. 2) Walker better than Jenkins and Riewoldt better than Bruce.

I've pondered this as well. I think we would take Harry with pick 5 if he was in this draft. If not then certainly Fremantle would take him at 7. Brisbane have Hipwood and Schace. Essendon probably wouldn't at pick 1 and Gold Coast have Wright and Lynch so I think us at 5 or Freo at 7 would be a chance.

If Battle is still available at pick 25 and SPP is gone I would take him. It can't hurt having a mobile, dynamic and dangerous forward line. He is an obvious talent with exceptional football smarts.

See it's things like that. Someone having Brodie drop to GC at 11 makes me nervous about taking him at 5.
If he would drop to 11 it must be a stretch to take him at 5, no?

I would take Ainsworth at 5 if he falls that far. Who else would Brisbane take in his place? (I don't think he will drop, but hypothetically who else might Bris take?)

Cripps went at 13 would he have been a stretch at 5? No way, I'm sure there were many saying he has no tricks, kicking isn't great blah blah. Supposedly Brodie is an animal with a burning desire.
