Do we think Ainsworth can become a true mid?
Right now he looms as a possible star small forward.
I think we need Mids.

He could be a Paul Chapman. Might take a while to develop into a star midfielder, but at worst he is a Jamie Elliot styled forward. At best we get a Paul Chapman styled midfielder. He does not have a lot of downside, but plenty of upside in my eyes.

I like him. Gets plenty of contested ball. Knightmare doesn"t rate him that high due to poor footskills. He's tough and a ball magnet, very mature, did u see his TV interview? Very impressive, easy to see why he was chosen as captain. . More Impressed by him than scharenberg IMO.
Yeah I did see it and looks a leader. If his foot skills are that bad ok but would be happy to use 24ish on him.

Not worth it. Everett and 6 (particularly in this draft) is so much overs. Pick 18 is actually not very different to pick 1 this draft. Although I'd like mcCluggage, he will be the clear stand out soon enough.

Like I said, we need to go all out in this draft. There's plenty of midfield talent and it's the area we're lacking in the most. That means giving up something decent to get another top 10 pick. We have to take risks. I would shop Gibbs and Murphy around, I would shop Boekey and next year's first rounder around. Not popular choices but like SOS said last year, you've got to give something to get something. We are rebuilding, that means we should be looking to shop around the older players with value who won't be part of our future plans. Let's not lose sight of that.

I can see why this post has zero likes.

Yeah I can too. Murphy's the captain and Gibbs has played some great games this year. But we won't be contenders next year or the year after. In three years time they are going to be too old and injury prone to have the same impact on games and our season.

What's going to be our midfield in three years time? Trading Gibbs to GWS might be good for all parties. GWS certainly could use a player like Gibbs and Gibbs will have the chance to play in a premiership or two. If we can get the Pies first rounder and say a Tomlinson for him and one of our third rounders then it's definitely worth considering imo.

Realistically though, we won't be offering them up. Only saying what I would try and do but it's highly unlikely to happen. Possibly Boek + 2nd rounder could happen though.

The thing is it doesn't matter how good your draftees are or how
many you bring in.
If you don't have a very solid core of senior players around them, they are going to struggle at AFL level.
Look at GWS they had more draft picks then you could wish for, but they have only started to become a force now that they have a good blend of good experienced players around all that elite talent.
We're in good hands. SOS showed us last year that he is no mug at this list management game.
He pulled out trades that none of us saw coming and things have turned around significantly.

Could we move up to Gold Coasts pick 3 or 4 by trading say 6 and Everitt?

That could be a great idea. As I don't think anyone would offer up a straight first rounder for Dre, that ship has sailed.
A pick inside the top 3 this year would mean Will Brodie Hugh McCluggage or SPS, they are the 3 standout at this stage.
Would love any of those guys at Carlton.

For us to take Anisworth it would have to depend on what pick he was available to us at.
He would be a good fit in our forward line as we don't have a forward like him.
Wright Lamb and Sumner are all very different types of small forwards.
He most likely goes top 10. If we have a pick in that range there are a few midfield prospects I'd take ahead of him.
If he did slide to late first round and we had a pick in that range; he could a great option.

I'd be interested to hear who you have ahead of him?

I will even help you with some potential names.

Brodie
McCluggage
SPS

Crickets

Jonty?
McGrath?

Yep Love McGarth kids has got some real pace and runs really well with the footy, think he might be able to push up into the midfield.
Kids been on fire over champs for Metro
Veneables have seen him do some stuff around the ground that's just straight up powerful football, would like to see him get a bit more ball. But the flashes he shows are very impressive. Is a beast in and around the clearances
Srimshaws is one I really like. starting to remind me abit of the Bont, in his draft year.
At 193cm has a real nice long left foot kick and his work by hand is also impressive.
Has also shown he can win his own footy. Could be a bolter IMO.
Gallucci I've been a big fan of since last year.
He'd also be a good fit to our midfield. With his pace and kicking skills.
Dylan Clarke I've really liked this kid since last year too.
Kid is a stoppage beast and tackles like a bear could offer Cripps some much needed support.
His first round talent IMO, just in what range is TBD.
Sharenberg I'm hearing good things about him but haven't seen much of him personally.
Like the Balance he seems to have to his game, good inside good outside.
There is the go home factor with him as well. Not sure where he stands on moving interstate.

Thinking of ways to get a potential gun mid in the first round and the GWS 4. If GWS need the points for academy players and they may have enough so it's a moot point, but if they do:

Assuming Carlton finish behind Collingwood:

Carlton lose: Pick 5, 23, 41, 48 (Dogs)
GWS lose: Pick 6, GWS 4 (Tomlinson, Marchbank, Stewart, Steele or Hoskin-Elliott

This places the value of the 4 at around Pick 7 collectively according to the draft calculator. Depends how keen they are to offload a couple of those guys to make space.

May have to give up a 2017 second rounder but I would take 41 of the table in that case.

Byrne Marchbank Plowman
Docherty Weitering Tuohy
Tomlinson Cripps Cuningham
C Curnow Casboult Ainsworth/McCluggage/Venables
Silvagni McKay Sumner
Kreuzer Gibbs Murphy

Interchange from: Steele, E Curnow, Kerridge, Simpson, Thomas, Stewart, Boekhorst, Lamb, Wright, Rainbow, Everitt

Dream come true if we can land the 4 and keep a decent first rounder.

I reacon SOS will be think along the same lines.
With future picks being in play, very good chance we could get something like that done.

I think in the List Management thread FBI talked about a swap of firsts and a third going out for Tom Mitchell. If that happened it would potentially be a 2017 third but add Mitchell to the side, remove Ainsworth etc but add a #17 slider.

His field kicking is very good as well.
I'm finding that there are too many bandwagons for me to get on.

Well at least someone has their head around all this stuff.

I still have a feeling we'll trade away our top end picks and have later picks, so no point falling in love with top end picks.

It does make sense. There really isn't a standout in this years draft, whereas next years is going to be choc full of elite talent.

Last year: This draft is full of key position players so address those needs first. Next year's draft is full of elite midfielders.

Who knows what we will be saying about next year ... err next year .... umm or is that this year .... next year? As opposed to this year which will be last year next year.

Got it?

Clear as mud ODN.

Gibbs is injury prone now? Thanks for letting me know. Oh and he'll be "too old" at 29 as well. Haha

Understand but 3 would get us that elite mid

It'd be a lot more likely you'll end up with the Geelong or GWS first rounder, rather than the Collingwood one.

Apart from that, yeah, none of that would surprise me.

Appreciate the input.
Any rumblings that you're hearing about the GWS4?
