GWS wont do that though. I believe the first two picks are set in stone, McGluggage and McGrath and the BL will still get the same player even if they bid on Bowes. Just like we get the same player even after bidding on Bowes, assuming the Lions don't bid on him before us. That's why I was saying earlier that bidding on Bowes is pointless. GCS get Bowes 100%, BL get Ainsworth who seems to be their first choice, Ainsworth wants to go their too I believe, and we will take SPS, if recent talk is correct that he is our first choice. GWS have clearly locked onto McGrath as well. That's why they traded as they did, so they could get him.

The point is to make the gcs pay market value for the player otherwise why have a bidding system at all .....

It is stupid that clubs have to set the value of academy players considering the perceived consequences of bidding (fear of repercussions if a bid is perceived to be too early or clubs deliberately bidding early to force clubs to overpay). The AFL should have a committee to set the price of each academy player/fs selection so it is independent .....

You want the AFL to have a complete recruitment department just to value Academy player?
Top ten idiotic comments ive seen this week.

or you think they should just use a BF mock draft?

Yes because the afl has no-one involved in the assessment of players coming through the draft. The AIS squads are chosen at random, along with the u18 AA team. It would be unbelievable to get 3 people already involved with afl development programs to sit down and evaluate the academy selections and allocate a fair value on them .....

Defiently if Silvagni passes on SPS at pick 5, which prima facie would be a boo-boo , then Brodie or Taranto and 2nd round pick Rioli, 21 yrs , matured and ready to fire , this lad could be the steal of the draft , capable of 10 to 15 minutes of scintillating footy that can destroy opposition off his own boot.

He's just a different type of cat. :)

What does he do for the other 100 minutes? :p

I could put 18 recruitment managers down and get them to show me their rankings and they would be completely different.
Yet you want to place the power of rating the ENTIRE draft pool to the AFL. Maybe just 3 people to evaluate what is fair and reasonable value.

I just struggle to understand how having 17 other clubs rate the academy kids is a worse option than getting the AFL to do it.

For pick 25 I'd be bidding on GWS academy players Sproule or Mcredie. Both look to be very good KP players and I don't think GWS would have the points to match. Think both could potentially be A grade players.

I also really like Zac Fisher at 25 should he be available.

GWS aren't keen on McCluggage at all. They will pick Ainsworth at #2 if * take McGrath. My source is good.

Think Ainsworth fills one of the very few minuscule gaps within their list. Readymade replacement for Stevie J. Rather scary really.

That's where I'm at smashbox gill re Pick 25. arrow quite likes Sproule, but I don't particularly rate him. Then again I don't really rate any of the KPFs in this draft. I do rate Macreadie quite highly though and he has clean, crisp disposal and a bit of pace too. Think I'd eventually end up using Macreadie & Marchbank as our KPDs and using Weitering as our 3rd tall intercept/rebounder. Saw Weitering up at Metricon in this role during his 3rd game. He collected 24 disposals at 84% DE, 9 marks and bounded down the ground setting up play. Once Jamo lost his spot I kept wondering how do we free up Weitering again??? Macreadie would give us that option, but he's also good enough he can do some of the intercepting & rebounding himself.

GWS love guys with explosive power, hence McGrath or Ainsworth

I actually rate Brennan Cox in front of both of them, just believe he should be selected before our 2nd rounder. Played predominantly forward until switched to KPD this year where we won AA. McCreadie is a safer pick, but I believe Sproule has a better upside. Can play KPF, very good set shot, to KPD or on ball in a similar vein to Biclavs

Apparently there is 5 or so very good bigs in the top 10 in the 2017 draft. I'm guessing we will get a pick in that top 10 so let's wait till then and get real quality rather than a speculative pick in the 20's. Let's not forget B.Silvagni the following year too. Mid's with more upside in the 20's than the limited tall's in the 20's.

Watching some of the draft highlights, I reackon ifSilvagni, Weitering, and McKay were all born a couple of weeks later they could have potentially all been top 10 picks this year.
