GWS wont do that though. I believe the first two picks are set in stone, McGluggage and McGrath and the BL will still get the same player even if they bid on Bowes. Just like we get the same player even after bidding on Bowes, assuming the Lions don't bid on him before us. That's why I was saying earlier that bidding on Bowes is pointless. GCS get Bowes 100%, BL get Ainsworth who seems to be their first choice, Ainsworth wants to go their too I believe, and we will take SPS, if recent talk is correct that he is our first choice. GWS have clearly locked onto McGrath as well. That's why they traded as they did, so they could get him.
The point is to make the gcs pay market value for the player otherwise why have a bidding system at all .....
It is stupid that clubs have to set the value of academy players considering the perceived consequences of bidding (fear of repercussions if a bid is perceived to be too early or clubs deliberately bidding early to force clubs to overpay). The AFL should have a committee to set the price of each academy player/fs selection so it is independent .....
