Whoever gets Brodie, will be very happy with themselves..............Essendon, likely..........luckily.
Can't see them passing on this bull, given they're not going to see much more of Watson & Stanton.

Poor Brodie, half the list suspended for doping yet still gets the #1 pick, only in AFL . Cycling and WWE have more credibility than our game.

If ladder positions stayed the same this is what I think could happen.
1 Essendon - Brodie (safest midfield pick)
2. Brisbane - Ainsworth
3. Gold Coast - Petrevski-Seton (keeping in mind Bowes will come in too)
4. Fremantle - McCluggage
5. GWS - Marshall
6. Carlton - Scharenberg
I hope to friggen god someone forces GC to take Bowes at 3.

No love lost Brisbane and Gold Coast.
Brisbane bid Bowes....Suns match...........Brisbane take SPS.

Ainsworth not that high, been shutdown a couple of times during carnival, will be a lot tougher at next level.

Marshall to Freo...have to draft what they need.

GWS to just take Academy picks or go X factor which would be Venables/McCluggage.

US ????? Scharenberg inside mid with touch of class a chance. Venables/McCluggage if they slip that far.
Really like Clarke, high production, two way, leftie, but not projected this high. Like Gallucci but again maybe a touch high.

Really think if the GWS deal is a go, we need a later 1st rounder back for at least one quality mid kid, with our best fits
likely to be there in the low teens.

That Venables goal at the start of the second quarter was special. Really like what I see when he goes into the centre and I like the combination he has with Bunker in the games I have seen them. That burst was Dangerfield like.

I know people say he fades in and out, but he gets shifted around because he has this strong forward ability. Forwards often get starved.

He's quick, he's strong, he fends off and he has a beautiful long boot on him AND he is happy to grab a fistful of jumper and let the opposition know he is there.

He and Ainsworth can go inside if they are played there and they can hit the scoreboard and already show power, pace and physical development.

At this stage:

1st round: Venables/Ainsworth
2nd round: First round slider/Bunker/Kerr/Taranto
3rd round: Big slider/Bunker/Kerr

US ????? Scharenberg inside mid with touch of class a chance. Venables/McCluggage if they slip that far.

Only on the strength of what I've seen as opposed to what I've read, at this stage I'd take Clarke over Venables quite easily.

Just feel that Clarke positions himself around the ground better than Venables. May not look as thrilling but may get the job done without fuss.

Do you think he would provide leadership and a wise head at 30??

Lists need to be balanced, age wise...

Of course he would. I don't want to get rid of the guy, but we don't really have much else on offer to obtain that first round pick and IF we get the Pies first pick for Bryce and spend that along with our first pick to grab the two best mids we can, I think that may be more valuable than a wise head and leadership going forward.

In 3 years, Cripps, Weitering, Docherty etc will become the leaders.

Come on now. If I wanted I could post a larger list of 30 year olds who are injury prone so my point stands that most 30 year olds become injury prone.
So we just get rid of anyone who reaches 30. Imagine if Geelong had got rid of Corey, Johnson, Ling, Enright, Scarlett, Bartel, Chapman etc etc as they got near 30 & the same applies to the Hawks, who not only kept faith with players nearing 30, but brought in a 30+ Brian Lake to bolster their defence.

I want you to explain why Bryce Gibbs, who has only experienced one significant injury in his career, will automatically become injury prone when he reaches 30 & then explain why so many champions of the game are still running around at 30+ & have been key players in premierships over the last decade.

Here's the thing. Gibbs will not be traded & which Pies first pick do you have in mind? Those that they traded for Treloar? By the way, Gibbs will not be traded (& he wouldn't want to play with the filth anyway).

Would be happy with Jonty if it fell that way.

Calm down mate I'm not saying we get rid of anyone who reaches age 30. What I'm saying is, this year's draft is full of talented inside mids which is what we desperately need. So I think we should go all out and take a risk in order to get a couple of top 10 picks. Now, who on our list is going to get us another top 10 pick this year? The options are limited. Bryce is one of them. In 3 years, we will not be contenders because we have no midfield. Bryce going to a club like GWS would be a good fit for all. Bryce will get the chance to play in a premiership or two, possibly more. GWS will benefit from getting him and we will benefit from the extra talented mid.

If we can add two more talented mids to our group this year along with Cripps and another talented mid from next year's draft. Then in 3 years we should be right up there because our defence is already solid at such a young age and our young forwards would have a few years in the system. Mids usually don't take as long to develop. What this means is that we'll have a plethora of young talent across all areas of the ground.

I've already explained this. By laws of nature as your body ages it takes longer to recover, week in week out of AFL footy will take its toll and it is reasonable to say that at 30+ years of age Bryce like every other human being will become more susceptible to injuries. It's not a fact that he will become injury prone, but it is not absurd to think that it may start happening. If you think he's going to have the same influence on our games and avoid injuries at 30+ years of age, that's great because you're entitled to your opinion. But I'm also entitled to mine and I disagree.

Just don't see us trying to get rid of mainstays of our side against their will. It flies in the face of the environment we have created. If someone gets an offer and is open to it, maybe. Pushing them out the door, unlikely.

Jenny Agutter... no more needs to be said.

Loved her accent. The whole Logan's Run idea was great. I even liked the short lived series.

Anyway, can't fit this into a draft theme so moving on.

Here's the thing. I've already said it's not going to happen and yes the pick GWS got from the Pies. So the trade won't be with Collingwood. But the point of a discussion forum is to give opinions and hypothesise about things like this.

Did you watch the game against GWS on the weekend? How do you suggest we address our midfield issues? By hoping that 32 year old Marc Murphy and 30+ year old Bryce Gibbs will still be able to produce their best footy? Good luck with that. If you can think of another way to get another top 10 pick let's hear it.

We should stop using the GWS list as the benchmark.

It's pretty safe to say that we'll never again, atleast in our lifetime, see another list as rich as GWS. I'm honestly going to be surprised if they don't have a 10+ year dynasty.

We already have a young, talented back line. We've spent some early draft picks on talented forwards last year. If we can spend a couple of top draft picks on talented mids this year and next as well as choose wisely with our later picks we will be able to compete with them. I'd certainly rather we do that than to wave the white flag for the next 10 years.

Not even sure what relevance this post has to mine.

I'm simply saying there is no point in comparing ours or any other list in the competition to GWS. Their scenario is unique and probably won't ever happen again. This isn't saying we won't ever be able to beat them. Just that we or any other team won't have a comparable list for quite some time.... realistically.

Not sure how that constitutes 'waving the white flag for 10 years'.
