The only reason I'd be unhappy about picking Hayward would be that we could have down graded our first rounder and got him and a sweetener.
On a side note, would anyone be talking about Scrimshaw as a potential Top ten pick if he was 5cm shorter?

Interesting comments from Emma re our second round pick.

"The Blues are still turning their list over and have a few things they could do with – another intercept defender, like Jordan Ridley could fit in nicely – and depending on where they see Curnow ending up might look at another key tall. Josh Battle may reach pick 25, and Patrick Kerr and Elliott Himmelberg are others expected to slot in somewhere through the 20s, though there will be plenty of midfield options for them to choose from, too."

No mention of another midfielder to add to our shortage of play makers.

Blues to bid on Bowes at 5 ? Would make Suns use 2 Top 10 picks

The Guru said:
Would be surprised if they bid on him at 5.

Which players will be available for Essendon at pick 20?

The Guru said:
Venables/Florent/Witherden/Ridley/Gallucci/Marshall could make for some good option.

will the eagles get spp @pick 12?

The Guru said:
I don't think so. It would surprise me. He has had a good year though and is obviously a local talent. More 20-30 for me.

Any chance of Brodie or Scrimshaw making it through to the Crows?

The Guru said:
A slim chance.

I have some inside mail I've heard Simpkin to Lions at pick 16. Cedric Cox to the Dogs with pick 18. Ridley/Luke Ryan to the Lions with picks 21/22 and SPP to the Saints with their first. Have you heard similar?

The Guru said:
Sounds like stuff weve been mooting for a couple of weeks!

Who will the Bulldogs be looking at with their two picks inside the top 30?

The Guru said:
Todd Marshall has been linked to the Dogs and is a chance to slip through to pick 18. They've put in some work on Cedric Cox, but that could be for the second pick. Jordan Ridley is also a possibility in that range, while they will consider Oli Florent should be get through to 18.

Ainsworth or McCluggage at pick 3 for the Lions who do you think they end up with out of those two?
The Guru said:
McCluggage if they had that choice.
Also mentioned that GWS had visited him recently, so GWS unlikely to bypass him @ 2.

Hey Tombstone, Love your work. Who do you think carlton would pick between, Brodie, petrevski-seton,Taranto and or Scrimshaw?
Also i read in the Phantom this morning Carlton may pick will Hayward, how strong is that rumour?
The Guru said:
I think if the Blues were choosing out of those four it'd come down to Petrevski-Seton or Taranto. But they need class, which makes me think SPS would be a real target.

188 cms? Sure, he'd still be the same player more or less.

Elite agility, elite left foot kick, good speed, good contested work at ground level, good intercept mark, plays direct.

More likely a tall? I want Brennan Cox with our 2nd, better forward than Kerr and arguably one of the best KPD in the draft

Can we bid on Daicos :D

Players nominated for father/son purposes:
Collingwood – Callum Brown (son of Gavin), Josh Daicos (Peter).
W Coast – Jake Waterman (Chris).

Perfect answer. Just trying to gauge if it was height based hype.

Gee whiz he is savage on every inside mid prospect except Clarke, Setterfield, SPP, Scheer, Mutch and Brodie.

Small hands on Scrimshaw, massive hands on Atley?

Not a big difference between the bottom 25% and the highest measurement. Neither have long fingers (maybe in favour of Scrimshaw?) so it's all about palm size, grip strength and coordination when gathering the footy.

Bizarre thing to bring up when neither are record high/low sizes, and without some consideration of how hands work in regards to footballs.

EDIT: He said Scrimshaw was in the bottom 25%, not the top.

Could the fact that we recruited Jarrod Pickett mean that if SPS was available at our first pick that we would most likely not pick him. Both players are quick, agile and both play a similar role.
Also listening to a podcast where SOS was being interviewed, he clearly stated that the CFC wants to bring in talent and as much as possible. When asked if he was focusing on midfielders he stated that that was not necessarily the case and that he would go for the best possible player.
SOS has played his cards very close to his chest. Could he possibly pick KPP with pick 25 or will he go for mids then in the later rounds opt for a KPP? This draft seems to really run deep, lets hope the club is able to pick up and nurture the talent so as to make it a successful draft whereby we end up with at least 4 picks that have long futures at the club.

We'll we're not getting a KPP with a top 5 pick in this draft, that much is clear.

#25 will really come down to who's on the board. There's 5 names you'd be happy with in terms of the likely draft order, but then there's probably another 10 names we'd snap if they slide that far (and are a realistic chance of doing so).

I'm totally sidestepping your SPS/Pickett comparison, because I don't see it.

That's some handy information.

I stand corrected here:

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-11-18/crows-roll-the-dice-with-fatherson-prospect-ben-jarman

If Jarman is overlooked by every club he could join the Crows as a father-son rookie selection. Adelaide would need to nominate him under those rules next weekend in the two days between the national and rookie draft to get immediate access to him as a rookie.

Had the Crows nominated Jarman at the national draft and he didn't received a bid, they would have been forced to use their last live selection to grab him. The option of not nominating provides them with more flexibility heading into the event.
That seems ridiculous to me given the change to the bidding system. You should not be forced to roll the dice if others can pluck him wherever they like.

1 week before the draft and I'm liking...

5. Sam Petrevski-Seton
25. Josh Begley
48. Patrick Kerr
62. Quinton Narkle
65. Lachlan Walker
69. Oscar McInerney

Grab some more mids and small forwards in the rookie draft.

The high end talent in this draft imo are mid / forwards . I think the exception is McGrath who will likely be a HBF at AFL level. Considering it's exactly what we need on our list we can't go wrong with pick5.

My top 10 players in this draft

1 Ainsworth
2 McCluggage
3 SPS
4 Taranto
5 McGrath
6 Simpkin
7 Brodie
8. Powell.P
9 Bolton
10 Venables

There are no KPP I'd take a risk in the top 15. Edit . Unless your GC and have multiple picks . There is a stack of mids that don't impact the scoreboard as much that are better placed outside the top 10

I am hoping we get Taranto.

Sadly the "miss" rate with indigenous/interstate boys scares me off SPS.

I like Taranto because:
  • had a big second half of the year (still improving)
  • high possessions
  • nearly 50% of possessions are contested
  • played well in the big games - stands up in big moments in games
  • Kicks goals
  • sets up goals
  • can mark overhead
  • tackles
  • 15.9 beep test
  • Italian heritage
  • models his game on Luke Parker (just behind Crippa as my favourite player to watch)
  • Melbourne boy
Other than this he is a complete hack!!

To me he has big upside and low risk= best option for pick 5.
