Seriously why are people talking hayward he is definitely not pick 5 worthy more late first rounder at best i would take jack scrimshaw before hayward im more than happy with sps,Taranto or brodie at 5

Hayward seems the johnny come lately popular choice of the moment. There is a reason SPS, Brodie and Taranto have endured in the conversation at 5. Class and proven capacity. I want the safest possible bet at 5 and play with edgier opportunities later in the draft.

Agree nice indeed pick 5 will be a good player one of McCluggage, McGrath, SPS , Ainsworth or Taranto will fall to us, it's exciting. Looking forward to Friday.
Opinions are like ***holes, everyone's got one and that's what makes BFC interesting. The weight of media hype and the opinions of Callum Twomey, Emma Quale and anyone considered reputable either identifying talent or giving expert opinion relating to draft prospects have almost made it a foregone conclusion relating to the top 5 or so picks.
Could it be possible that there is a smokey or a player who's stock has risen change the current view and rocket into top 5 contention, or that SOS has kept very quiet as other list managers have, and will draft a player unexpectedly which isn't expected to go as high and or maybe we will take a KPP with our first pick???

Sure always expect there to be a secret player rocketing into contention last minute and top 10 will always have a slider or two as well.
Thursday things should be getting very interesting.

Some of my draft notes

Andrew McGrath - plays like HBF.
Extremely prolific. Best HBF in the game.

Will Hayward - plays like thylacine60
Can end up in the middle, but known for being mostly forward.

Ben Ainsworth - plays like MEB_
Feisty, more powerful than listed height suggests

Tim English - plays like TheSheik.
Divides opinion, Is well over 196cm

Sam Petrevski-Seton - plays like KohPhi
Silly skills, floats in and out

Luke Ryan - plays like The Old Dark Navy's
Plays defence, good at mopping up. Mature ager

Cedric Cox - Plays like SBYM
A long way from Melbourne. Go home factor at play

Sam Powell-Pepper - plays like Tony Lynn 15
Lacks class, but can be effective

And Aphrodite ??????

Still too many selective types, hanging around looking for cheap possessions.

Kevin Sheehan.

In charge of development. Keeps the kids in line. Knows how to spot talent and when to kick them out of the system.
....lead us not in to temptation........

:p:D

Pick 5 is too high for Hayward. I can see why he is going to go high, but our pick is well positioned to not have to take as big of a risk as that. We fought hard to keep pick 5 and I would be surprised if we didn't take one of the kids with more runs on the board.

If Taranto and SPS are both taken before our pick then that means either Ainsworth or McCluggage will be available. We sit in a very nice position I feel.
Yes, I think to get Hayward we could have traded pick 5 down to a later first rounder to get Marchbank et al and kept next years first that we got for Tuohy. Seems silly to me to then use pick 5 to reach for such a high risk prospect when their are excellent low risk prospects like those you mention. Hayward to me would be a Bootsma or Boekhorst call and I hope those days are over.

But if you read the GWS board you will see that SOS is often disparaged for reaching for players with early picks.

Cant say I am not a little concerned that he could take a slam dunk like SPS or Taranto and turn it into a hail mary from the other basket.

Wot? The messiah?

Wot? The messiah?
Yes Him. Interesting how 2014 is viewed as such a horrendous draft for us, as it undeniably was, yet for GWS it was just as bad. Whereas we have the so far underwhelming talent of Boekhorst and Jaksch still on our list for at least one more season, GWS, who had picks 4,6,7, 23 and 24, the last of those picks being (Steele) subject to an academy discount, have NONE of their 2014 draftees still listed.

Who do you think the Giants fans blame for that fiasco?

The guy who called those five names and then recently robbed them of the two decent players they did draft in 2014, that's who.

We don't know truly what clubs think, and remember it's been called an even draft from the get-go so if a Hayward pops up early I don't see it as a reach

You don't kick 9 goals at the level without having talent

Pickett, Marchbank, Ahern, McKenna and Steele

None proven to be duds, all still on lists and just wanted out given the rest of the talent. Injury has derailed the runs of Marchbank, Pickett and Ahern, and Steele is exactly what you'd want from pick 24... McKenna the only doubtful pick at this stage.

Alot easier to 'reach' for needs when you have 45 million first rounders at your disposal. Nothing I've seen so far suggests SOS can't spot talent.

Good points. Nonetheless, Giants fans are pretty dirty about that draft.

Given the talent amassed on their list, and the wealth of high picks they had available - I think "reaching" for specific types was warranted.

Will be a different story at Carlton where we need to nail as many picks as possible in the space of 2-3 years.

Of course not, but 9 goals in a colts game does not make you Gary Ablett either.
Sidebottom's 10 in a TAC GF was a fair pointer to his quality. Absolute jet.

Hayward is dating Sam Kerridge's sister apparently. Hopefully we don't let this be a factor in our selection
Other way around, Kedge is dating the Hayward sister. Shame he bolted up the draft ranks so much, we could've taken him at 25 and made his transition to Melbourne a little bit easier.
