Its getting exciting now, i still like Brodie, he's in and under but also has a bit of toe, seems a safe bet to me. What i wouldn't give to be in the interviews with these kids.

Academy clubs looking after each other and not bidding on rival kids. bullshit if it happens tomorrow if Brisbane dont bid on Bowes.
Academy kids that are rated highly (top 5) should be bid on early.

I have the same thoughts and in such an even draft i see SPS a massive risk for us this high in such an even draft i seriously hope he is off the boards come our pick if not pass him on to a W.A club.

I AGREE 100%

Without wanting to offend anyone, with the way things have turned out with Yazz and Jeffy, I would prefer to go with the local kid.
We need to minimise risk where possible, and i'm sure SPS is a great kid, but i'd just prefer a more conservative approach.
Taranto or Brodie would do me just fine.

Twomey's phantom draft hasn't really answered any questions. Quayle is the best so we'll see what she puts up tomorrow. It's kind of exciting not knowing how it will all unfold. I don't recall a draft like it.

I still think we will end up with SPS.

It looks like no matter what happens in the first 4 picks SPS will be available for us to take.

The only question is if Taranto is still available, whether we prefer him over SPS...which could happen if Essendon pick McCluggage.

To be fair he does seem quite different mentally to Yarran and Jeffy from his media interviews etc.

Doesn't appear to have had a 'troubled' life like they did...actually seems he had a good support network of family, friends and the town itself.
Actually speaks quite well to the camera...and on the improve as he learns to speak English the Aussie way better.

The fact he requested a move to Melbourne and has made sacrifices to get to where he is now speaks volumes and i don't particularly recall Yaz or Jeffy having a similar story.

That sort of thinking gets us Zak Jones or Darcy Lang instead of Cripps.

I just read Brett Anderson's phantom draft (quite a few differences with Twomey's), he also has us taking SPS and then Drew at our second

if McCluggage is No.1, think Blues will select Taranto over SPS. comes down on who Suns select at 4.

Hope so and Taranto better suits our needs as SPS is a flashy icing on the cake type pick and our cake is still far from the oven.

Don't forget Brisbane have pick 3 and if there's a better player around than Bowes, why risk making a bid and not get the player you really want.

Also, don't see much difference between Carlton helping the Hawks out with JOM trade (****ed if I know why we did), and the Lions and GCS helping each other out.

I'm Sgt Schulz when it comes to the draft, but that doesn't appear to fit the little I've seen of SPS. Does good work in traffic and appears to run hard both ways.

I understand their is a bit of hindsight bias, but SPS is a completely different kettle of fish from Yaz or Jeffey.

He's been keen on moving to Melbourne to play in front on big crowds and will relish the opportunity to play for a big club in a big city. He comes across pretty extraverted, self-assured and has a pretty autotelic personality. If Taranto is off the board, he is the logical selection.

Sounds like the draft is going to be pretty dependant on who the Bombers select with Pick 1.

It'll either be

1. McGrath
2. Taranto
3. McCluggage
4. SPS
5. Ainsworth (Carl)

Or

1. McCluggage
2. McGrath
3. Ainsworth
4. SPS
5. Taranto

Not sure you've got the right SPS there.

He gets around the ground, wins his own ball, uses it well, and lays plenty of tackles. I think Taranto is the "flashier" of the two.

I think we would take Taranto over SPS but it is looking like a long shot, it's not just GWS ahead of us that are keen on him. I'd say Ainsworth is the most likely of the top 4 to fall to our pick, I'd rather SPS or Scrimshaw ahead of him.

That's not true; for his size and shape SPS wins plenty of contested ball and is very effective around the stoppages. His ability to win clearances and use his pace to break away from packs makes the Burgoyne comparison even more resounding.
