SPS is the player we need IMO. He has elite disposal, pace, can win his own footy and tackles with real intensity.
The kid is an elite talent and has been the stand out junior for a number of years now, can't see SOS passing on him.
Only one more sleep to go.
To me SPS is the most rounded footballer in this draft. There is nothing he can't do. And if he didn't have hamstring problems then I think he would be in the conversation for the 1st picked. I hear his character is outstanding. Captained his WAFL 18's side I think but I could be wrong.

Why doesn't anyone want Brodie again??

We're all just spit-balling and if Brodie was taken, we'll know there's a very good reason for that.

Whoever we pick at #5, will be the best player for the club........................except for Scrimshaw, of course. :$

Could be the most rounded player in the draft but that might not necessarily make the best pick. We all know that if we dumped the tallest/biggest aspect of recruiting we would be watching much better games of football. There are much more 'talented' smaller/midsize players than guys who are just tall and big. Most of these talented players are crunched into submission and drop away. For example, Hawkins is just big...hardly talented!

We need to know that SPS with all his talent can hack the crunch at AFL level. Unlike our recent failures in Lucas and Boekhurst types. Yes, SPS is being sold as an inside/outside mid but he will find that inside work very hard unless he still has a growth spurt left in him.

If he is still destined to shoot up a bit then show me where to sign.

Picked it.

Everyone else gets docked but not GWS.
Nor a good look for the AFL. Wonder what Eddie will say?
The thing is that they are beyond punishment draft wise. They could miss this draft entirely and still have the best list in Christendom.

Nonetheless, taking pick 2 off them would have stung as they worked so hard to get it.

But I agree, I knew the AFL would not have the guts to do anything. Unbelievable that a 20 year old player and two blokes from other clubs carry the can.

Dodoro will now have had time to see all the Phantoms and will side with them, for fear of ridicule and will duly take McGrath. :)
Maybe the lowest risk player in this draft, so I see him going down this path.

If we somehow did have a choice between McCluggage and Petrevski-Seton, I wonder which one we'd take.

Watch his videos again. He reacts faster than anybody else. That's not going to change.. but his body will change.. but if you're expecting him to be 190cm and ninety kilos ..he wont.
You can take that with pick 25.. I think you blokes are trying to get a rugby team front rower group together so everybody can run over the top of us..seriously ! We were as slow as snails making their way through peanut butter

Why can't we have both Harks. :(

This is the thing:

They were never going to lose pick #2 and fair enough, but having their second and third picks taken away from them, may have put pressure to let Setterfield go to another club.

So, the AFL were quick to deal out swift punishment to individuals no longer attached to the club, slapped Whitfield with a wet lettuce leaf and didn't impose any punishment upon the club in which all this occurred in. Just doesn't sound right to me, but what would I know.................I don't work for the AFL

My preference is to pick up:

1 Balanced mid -
SPS, Taranto @5
Mutch, Parfitt @25
Fisher @48
1 KPP -
Kerr, Himmelberg, Rotham @48
Sproule, Maibaum, Eddy @63+
1 Small Forward -
Lebois @48
Stengle, Jarman, L. Ryan, W. Rioli @63+
1 Inside Mid -
Drew, Clarke, Scheer, Gallucci @25
Atley, Scharenberg @48
J. Bolton, Guelfi, Hinge @63+
1 Mid/Forward -
S. Bolton, Berry @25 Begley, Poholke, J. Williams @48
Lyons, Junker, Kerbetiah @63+

Ideal Draft:

SPS @ 5
Mutch @ 25
Atley @ 48
Sproule @63
Stengle @ 66
Junker @70

It's a shorter draft in many ways, but I really rate SPS and Mutch's ball use, Atley's toughness, Sproule's potential, Stengle's game instinct (has that predator like ability to snap up the ball and create out of nowhere) and the athletic profile of Junker.

They haven't ruled out stripping picks from them next year. They can appeal the decision so there just wasn't enough time to do it this year.

With the list they have they should be set to challenge for the next five years anyway so they probably won't care..

Best lead into a draft I remember.
Everyone fighting with one another on every board........it's great. :)

And Twomey and Anderson commenting on how little information is coming out of the clubs.

Thoughts on Drew from those in the know?
I know nothing. :)

I've been on his bandwagon a while after watching championships highlights and was curious Cal said 2 weeks ago that Drew might slide to late 30-40s and now suggests we'll take him.

Not the fanciest but knows his way around the stoppages.

(Maybe it's the red hair, or maybe I just want a player named after the actor Willem Dafoe)
