I can't find any stats for Neale but only played 7 games as an Under 18; was 3rd best on ground once and 6th best on ground once.

It all comes down to the hammies. Were they the reason for drifting in and out of games and his overall poor 2016 numbers? Is it bad luck or something else? Will they hold him back at AFL level?
I agree, his hamstring troubles this year are my biggest worry. I don't get the worries people have over his size, he is never going to be a primary inside player like Cripps but his game will adapt beautifully to the speed of AFL football. Players with his poise, agility and vision will find it easier to adapt.

We need to get more than just our first pick right, we should be able to find a good big fella with a later pick.

Obviously all just speculation at this stage. But how much of an upgrade on Mark Whiley would Willem Drew be?

Why doesn't anyone want Brodie again??
I think it is the fact that he is not a big ball winner, people talk about him like he is a sure thing but he averaged 21 disposals per game at TAC. Those aren't great numbers when you take into account his skills. He has great hands and I do like him but the more I look at it I think pick 5 is a slight reach.

Doesn't really have any standout features either. He's hard at the ball and tackles well but his disposal is iffy and he's a little one-paced.

Looks the type to play well at Under 18 level but there must be some concern for how well he'll transition into an AFL player. I personally can't see what value he'll bring long-term.
Who is your hope for pick 25 if we take SPS with our first?

Yeah, Mutch could be a serious contender @ 25, all the more reason to bid on Setterfield @5 to make it easier to shake a few of the academy boys free. Maybe BA and CT are just linking us to Drew because he is Gleeson's nephew.

Hope so. I agree, not certain they will match on him. Be pretty happy to pick him up at 25.

For those worried about midfield size , perhaps Silvagni knows something we don't .
We already have Cripps and Gibbs as big bodied mids , maybe he knows that there is a certain WA FA on the way over next year as well .
We can also draft another bigger bodied mid with our second pick 25 if need be .
SPS would be the perfect player to link up with these blokes along with Murphy , Cuningham and Pickett .
That's a pretty serious midfield package coming together with next year's draft and trade period still to come to complete the 66 game rebuild .

When you look at Brodie in the TAC . watch how many times he gets the ball and the little kids around him bounce off him as he stands there with it.
That's not going to happen in the AFL IMO.
Whilst he still play afl to a reasonable level I believe he won't be anywhere near elite.

I can't see SOS banking on anyone being a certainty next year.
You just wouldn't do it. It would be something if it did come about, but you couldn't plan around it.

Big bodies are good but football smarts are better....and SPS has it in spades.

It's not as though Brodie won't be getting bigger and stronger either.

Interesting as to where many of these guys will go. One day out and we're really none the wiser at pick #1 let alone for the teens.
We knew we were taking Cripps in his year and Menzel in his at #13 and #12 respectively.

Im hoping we stay away from SPS.... too culturally diverse for us to gamble on. Indigenous boys from back grounds like his require time, patience and experience in dealing with. These have never been a strong point for Carlton. Things that the average Indigenous kid has seen and done is unfathomable compared to a kid from the suburbs or a leading private school. The harsh Melbourne afl environment is something most indigenous kids never get use too.

I love his story and hope he becomes the next Rioli. But Carlton can not afford to risk this Pick 5. All these kids are talented but picking the "right kid" is just as important as how fast / skilful he is.

Let a more talented team take the risk/reward scenario SPS.

Stick to a player we know is going to be a 200 gamer for Carlton not a player that will potentially.

Remember we are one of the worst lists in the AFL can't afford any risk with pick 5. Unfortunately picking SPS has maybe just a little.

You've seen one....you've seen them all. Right?

We've had plenty of players leave us/be shown the door for all sorts of 'cultural' reasons........yes, many non-indigenous players too.
Don't worry about your bias too much. Pretty sure SOS, Walker and co can do their jobs.

...
And don't get me started on the utter disgrace of the AFL rewarding Essendon with number 1 draft pick by virtue of this years player penalties - this is also a downright flowering disgrace.

The * had draft penalties in 2013 and 2014.

Sure but they're not going to be bouncing off him in that area he plays in.
He needs more tricks doesn't he?

This is some ignorant shit

... The only "like v like" stats worth quoting for SPS are those achieved at the U18 Nat Champs, which were only average at best, or the All Stars game where he went gangbusters.

2016 prospect Sam Petrevski-Seton was called up after a rest and showed his class all day, winning the hard ball and executing with class outside the contest. His defensive pressure was also a highlight, laying some crunching tackles and bumps rarely seen in junior football.

We did very well with Betts who was illiterate when he first came to Carlton. Walker too. Sure we have had poor outcomes with aboriginal players in the past (remember Garlett's first couple of years though) and chosen some who have not made it (Smith, Benjamin). But we have recognised that we can do better with supporting our aboriginal players, have Walker in the role, recruited Pickett and one more sleep until ... SPS ...
