Dylan Clarke looks like the second best contested/clearance player, behind Will Brodie.
Clarke is not far off him when it comes to winning the footy, Brodie is just classier with ball in hand.
Still a lot to like with Dylan and at 187cm his a good size and ticks a lot of the boxes.
Not looking likely he'll be available in the second round. Think his a late first rounder ATM
IMO he is the 2nd or 3rd best player, who would add some support for Cripps around the clearances.
As Brodie is likely gone before our pick Clarke would be handy. However we probably need to downgrade our pick and get two latter first rounders to make it work. If we could get Clarke and one of Venables or Gallucci would be very happy. Then get Kerr at 23 and Romensky at 41 and we have a really good mix.

As stupid as this question seems right now.....what's next years draft pool like?

Are we better off trading out next years first rounder to get extra picks this year?
Our midfield has more holes than Swiss cheese at the moment and if this is a "midfield" year then maybe we should stock up with kids and hit free agency next year?
Based on under aged player performance next year is expected to be stronger than this year,

Wasn't this year expected to be stronger than last year, which was supposedly the weakest draft in years ?????
SOS for a pick in the 50's shows it was not too bad for depth last year. Weitering, Parish, Mills, etc. look sensational so far :thumbsu:

Exactly demonstrating how futile conversations about the depth of drafts are. They can only perform against their opposition and their ability to adapt to AFL level can vary substantially !!!!!!!! Oh and don't forget we also got a pick upgrade as part of the SOS selection too (Only * would put in a bid for a player which results in a POSITIVE outcome for the opposition club ........... lol)

At 4 his not in the conversation ATM. We need a player or two to bolt into the top 5.
It will push the players already in that pick range down a few spots. Think Tim English and Todd Marshall could be a chance to bolt into the top 5.
Essendope would consider a key forward or a ruckman.
I'm hoping SOS will really push to get another pick in the first round.
This draft has a lot of potential for us. Lots of good player that suit our needs. We just need to get the right picks.
Not sold on Marshall yet. Seems to run a bit hot and cold and i'm basing this on anything, but his on field demeanor worries me a little. I just feel he picks and chooses when he goes at the contest. Might be wrong, but call it a gut feel.

Not sold on him either. But he is rated by some as the best KPP of this draft.
Hopefully he has a strong finish to the year and a club that's not us, does use a top 5 on him.

He certainly has the talent, but I just worry about what goes on above his shoulders.
The mess that he made over nominating (or not nominating) for the GWS academy worries me a little.

I'm really warming to Clarke, going to keep a very close eye on him... If he keeps throwing up numbers like his last TAC game then could be a huge bolter.

Liked the look of Matthew Guelfi at the championship. Thought he showed some good signs, could find the ball inside and displayed time and poise with ball in hand.
Could prove a good foil for Cripps and has the potential to be a late pick up. Thoughts?

Turned the ball over a little iirc, but you're right he certainly showed something. Pretty sure he's playing as a 19 year old in this years champs also.

2016 DRAFT

This year’s draft has good depth. The real high-end talent has some very good players but is arguably a little skinny, which opens up opportunities further into the draft. And in terms of stand-outs, we’re really only half way through the year.

I think the question clubs are asking now is who is No.1, and you might get nine or 10 different answers.
We have a first round, second round and two third round picks. At the moment around pick No.5 will be our first pick.

Looks like SOS is on the same page as a few of us. :thumbsu:

Nothing specific, but those comments fit the previous narrative of trading our first pick for two first round picks...

I hope not. That backfired when we gave up #7 for #19, Jaksch and Whiley. Should've held onto #7 and grabbed 2 metre Peter.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing right? Well, at least let's learn from the mistake and not let it happen again. If we end up with pick#4-#5 we definitely should hang onto it unless we get a ridiculous offer for it.

There are still some other options for getting another first rounder this year that would suit us better than giving up pick#4 or #5. We could trade Casboult for a second rounder and couple that with a third rounder. If it's say pick#24 from Brisbane for Cas and we couple that with pick#40, that's 1214 points which is very slightly over being equivalent to pick #13 at 1212 points.

Teams looking for points will likely be GC and GWS. GC have #9 (from Melbourne; worth 1469 points). We could couple #22 with #24 (=1630 points) and offer that up to GC. OR we could package #24 + #40 + #49 (=1501 points) and throw in Everitt to try and get that #9 pick...

Also rumoured that Swans are after Touhy. Try and give up Touhy + 2017 3rd rounder (I think it will probably be about #42-#43 =395-378 points respectively) for the Swans first rounder (#15 =1112 points). This places Touhy at around pick #26-#27 value which is about right for him I would say.

End up with picks: #4, #9, #15 and #22

Gives us plenty of options, we can either hang onto all of them, or we could try and work something out for Marchbank and Tomlinson with #15 and a player. I think Rowe would be a good fit for them, they need another established full back and Rowe would be better suited up there with more support.

Two of the key people involved in that were fired, and this is supposedly a different draft spread.

If most clubs agree with our assessment, it's actually going to be quite hard to trade down.

I know they're fired, but that's irrelevant. The point I'm trying to make is that it's going to be less likely to pick up a star player with later first round picks.

Also, I find it to be quite the opposite if the other recruiters agree with SOS. The more depth, then the more reason why they'd be likely to trade down. The down trading with GC that I suggested involved points anyway. Points covered and a player they were after last year? I see no reason why they'd knock that back...

Only clubs with academy picks in the first two rounds would be interested in trading up the draft order, assuming they get a net points gain.

So that's GC & GWS this year.

Yes. Which is what I said in my original post.
I know, what I'm saying is: that's probably it. If another club has a top 10 pick and has 5 players they would happily take with pick 1, they're probably going to look to trade down.

We're going to have to use players as trade bait or makeweights in pick swaps to swing extra picks in the top 40.

Essentially, we want to take on the strategy the Dogs did last trade period.

Knightmares comment on Jake Bradley -

"JakeBradley is a top-ager and has been good in the TAC Cup without dominating. He is 177cm and for me lacks a point of difference. He could be considered as a rookie but I see that as against the odds."

Not that I overly disagree with his assessment from my extremely limited viewings of him, but Knightmare has a pretty solid history of rating more physically mature players much higher, as well as overestimating how willing other clubs are to bid on academy/FS types unless they're definite top 20 material.

I'm sure that's a big reason why he prefers doing rankings over phantom drafts when he speaks about the pool each year.
