Or we could look to the Hawks or Doggies (among others) who have emphasised their no. 1 priority in recruiting as an innate ability to actually play the game. Funny how successful they've been.
Yet you will find the Bulldogs have a very tall midfield group.

Sheikh what are you on about? Overly big forwards are struggling in today's style. See Hawkins and Cloke, throw Tom Boyd in there too.

Ease up there Chunky, you can't use Boyd & Cloke as examples to prove your point, one can't kick straight to save his life and the other is a Million-Dollar Baby who has done **** all.

For the record, here is the Top 10 in the 2016 goal-kicking ladder :

Joshua Kennedy West Coast 17 58 28 376 103 86 67.4 3 v Melbourne, Round 18
Lance Franklin Sydney 17 57 39 381 95 96 59.4 4 v Carlton, Round 18
Tom Lynch Gold Coast 17 55 21 351 123 76 72.4 4 v Fremantle, Round 18
Josh Jenkins Adelaide 17 47 19 301 92 66 71.2 3 v Geelong, Round 18
Eddie Betts Adelaide 17 45 24 294 51 69 65.2 1 v Geelong, Round 18
Jack Gunston Hawthorn 17 41 22 268 113 63 65.1 3 v Richmond, Round 18
Jesse Hogan Melbourne 17 39 25 259 117 64 60.9 0 v West Coast, Round 18
Jack Riewoldt Richmond 17 39 25 259 115 64 60.9 2 v Hawthorn, Round 18
Jeremy Cameron GWS 13 38 12 240 47 50 76.0 2 v Port Adelaide, Round 18
Tom Hawkins Geelong 16 38

Take out Betts as he is a forward pocket goal-sneak and the rest look like pretty big blokes to me !!!

They certainly do, but they don't discriminate on size or athletic prowess. Bonts is tall and C. Daniel is very small, both have fantastic footy IQs.

Most players can build an acceptable tank and work on aspects of their athletic profile. You can't build an intelligent footballer though.

I haven't followed who the up and coming kids are in the TAC but as far as I'm concerned we need midfielders, midfielders and midfielders. We have the beginnings of some pretty good bones in terms of Weitering, Plowman, McKay and Curnow and SOS Jnr but need some people in there to help out Cripper. And never and I repeat never get a ruckman with a top ten pick. That's my two cents worth!

Guru Out!

Don't come complaining to me when we are being outbodied in the clinches and outmarked in a pack then.

The slowest midfield in the league ??

Here you go :

The club has said the emphasis is now on players with genuine leg speed and elite disposal !!
smashed on the spread and losing the keeping off battles?

You can't really turn a sub-ordinary athlete into an acceptably athletic footballer, either, to be honest. They have to have at least one elite quality to compensate, and they are usually of the 'inside midfielder' type.

Anyway, I'm not advocating that we should undervalue smaller potential draftees, simply saying that we'd shouldn't do the opposite just because a player might not fit the midfield stereotype. Let's draft good players and then find roles for them, rather than the other way 'round.
