Any indication as to whether it gels with our recent mantra of plugging the 20-23yo gap in our list?

Hoping we're not going to be throwing a wad of cash at a premature free agent who'll taper off before we make a push for a flag.
I trust the powers at be. They are all on the same page.

If we got another second round pick from somewhere, based on value, I would either trade them to GWS for a late first round pick and Marchbank or use them to pay for Marchbank, Tomlinson, Stewart and one of their plethora of mids.

So 2 second rounders for a late first and Marchbank? Not sure if they'll agree to that, we'd need to throw in our third as well I think. iwouldn't mind doing that.

If Tomlinson turns into a depth player for us in the future... is that such a bad thing? We desperately need talented depth players.

No especially if he comes for practically nothing but I'd rather focus on building the core group first and then we can worry about getting depth players in. I'd much rather the first option, getting Marchbank + a late first rounder.

Sorry T I can't.

I'll keep bringing up Tom Lynch until it's confirmed or denied.
Out of contract end of next season.
Vic lad, know his family well, but they don't give anything away.
Mad Pies fans unfortunately; big Trav out of contract end of next year also...reckon Pies would be right into him.

If we could score 2 low second rounders... early 20s, then that should satisfy GWS for points... especially if they finish in 2nd or 3rd, then they might be interested in trading that pick, plus Marchbank for those two picks.

Unfortunately we need the depth now. Our talent pool is just about empty once you get outside of the senior squad and we need to have at least 10 AFL capable players in that pool to cover injuries.

Admittedly it was only school footy yesterday but McCluggage and Berry are shaping up as damn good players, both of them have great awareness of the play developing around them.
McCluggage will likely be gone by the time we have our pick but I'd be happy with selecting Berry if we get another first rounder.

Arent we doing both depth and quality by bringing in the gws boys last year and if happens again this year with the names mentioned or similar as the depth . And the draft last year weitering mckay curnow silvagni and hopefully a similar outcome this year will over 2 draft provide a chunk of quality and a good portion of the core of our side yeah ? In an ideal world of course .

Yep. But if GWS say give us 2 early second rounders and you can pick:

A) Marchbank and Pick#15
OR
B) Marchbank, Tomlinson and Steele

I'd rather go for option A.

With Pick #15 we could get a decent kid especially in this draft or we could use it in a trade offer to upgrade to a top 10 pick this year or even try and go for another team's first rounder next year.

Barass70 said that Touhy is also linked to going to North. If we offer pick #23 and Touhy for North's first rounder next year and their second rounder this year, I think that would be a good deal. I reckon they're going to slide down next year so it will most likely fall to a top 10 pick along with pick #30 this year.

We need to be creative to find ways to work our way into collecting multiple top 10 picks for the next couple of drafts.

Yep sounds good hope it works out

Yep. Would be very happy with that.

I disagree here. We're not really pushing for finals yet so to me depth isn't as important as targeting high quality AFL standard kids. If we can get them for very cheap like we did last year then I'm all for it, but if it's going to cost us an early second rounder then I'd rather keep the second rounder.

If we are to progress, we need the depth of talent in the seconds to be able to handle a long run of injuries similar to what happened to us in 2012. Started off the season on fire, then got hammered with injuries and it turned into 4 years from hell culminating in our 4th wooden spoon.

We might not be pushing for finals ATM, but we don't really want to start progressing and because of injury hit the bottom again... which will chip away at peoples belief that we are headed in the right direction. If we have the cover... then we won't suffer as much if things go bad.

More likely 'two metre Peter' (not my term).

Didn't Lynch only sign on again this year for another 2yrs at least. Thought GCFC locked him away into 2018. We'd be handing over a hell of a lot to orchestrate any trade in advance.

We could try and get GCS to cough up one of there first rounders for Everitt + a 3rd rounder.
If they don't agree we could use bidding on Bowes @ 4 as leverage.

And then get busted for draft tampering ???

Everitt and a 3rd rd pick for an early 1st rd selection would NEVER get past the integrity board ................

Busted for draft tampering please. Do you really believe Jacob Hooper was the 8th best player in last years draft?
There would back room deals and arrangements between clubs being made almost every year.
GCS offered up a late first for Everitt just last year.

I think that the deal was a late first for Everitt and one of our seconds... But at the time we were trying to use them to get Tomlinson and when GWS kyboshed that deal the dogs pounced and gave us pick 11 for them.

Is that a known fact about the GCS late first round pick for Everitt? Surely we would have jumped at that offer.
