I'm a big Ainsworth fan . Have been since 2015 champs . We need more firepower up forward . He will give us that straight up and will progress to dangerous mid
The Jamie Elliot comparison concern me, I was hoping for a more Brad Johnson, Paul Chapman, Steve Johnson type player but Elliot is too one dimensional.

I think that you might be wishing a bit there... I reckon he could go anywhere between 22 and 32. He will probably be gone before our third round pick... mind you... last year I said that Kerbatieh would go in the third round. I would hate for him to get to our second round pick and have SOS call out someone else with the intention of going for him in the third round... only for him to be called out for the next pick. He is a good quality forward.

Meet Patrick Kerr
And I love the quote about the advice from his grandmother about what to do it he got picked up by a club other than Carlton
Looks like a great kid and surely must end up at CFC, is pure blue blooded royalty. If he is a 3rd -4th round pick then you would think the other clubs might stay clear knowing that the go home factor (home being Princes Park) is always going to be there.

Not at all. Prestia was a dual sided midielder who accumulated regularly and used a good first step to gain separation. Ainsworth is a power mid, kind of Robinson-esque in movements, although a better kick imo

That would really bring Brisbane into the mix for him at pick 2. Heard he is also a Brisbane Lions supporter
If that eventuated, I think we'd be laughing.

McLuggage to Essendon.
Petrevski-Seton to Brisbane.
Marshall to Freo.
Bowes to GC (assuming Brisbane or Freo make a bid).
Brodie to Carlton.

I think what's most important with these top picks is really understanding how much drive they have to become absolute elite footballers. Skill and performance in u18 means nothing when they get in the big league. Unless they are willing to do those extra things in preparation and game day to get everything out of themselves. Character is key. I just hope we are really thorough with who we bring in.

Hey guys, whos the smart money on us taking. Forgetting who we would like, but the most likely to be available at pick 5?

Knightmare has it going McCluggage, Brodie, Perryman (GWS academy), Petrevski-Seton, Marshall, Setterfield (GWS academy), Bowes (GCS academy), McGrath, Ainsworth, Scrimshaw.

Is that a fairly accurate representation of the order? That would have us with a choice of McGraw, Ainsworth and Scrimshaw.

Did we lose a great deal with not getting pick 4 as opposed to pick 5? Is there an identifiable talent level drop off somewhere?

McLuggage gaining traction as the standout player so far - versatile midfielder.
Brodie the next best mid - much more inside than outside.
Petrevski-Seton the classy user who's missed a bit of footy through injury - outside mid/flanker.
Marshall is the only tall to consistently factor in top 10 discussions - KPF.
Ainsworth slides a little due to size - impact player, predominantly as a small leading forward, but could be a midfielder given time.
McGrath seems to be a genuine footballer, plenty of pace, uses it well - played off HBF in Champs but has plenty of experience as a mid.

Beyond that, not sure, and I've seen nothing of the academy kids.

Bowes was talked up as a possible #1 pick, will be interesting to see if one of the top three make a play for him to deny GC an extra player at Pick 4.

I reckon we take Petrovski-Seton if he is there over just about anyone. Inside/Outside class player is exactly what we are after

I agree. He's not getting discussed much but if he is in the picture.....and he could well be, he may be too hard to deny.
What we don't know for sure yet is as to who will be holding the picks before us..........and even if we're sure to be holding our #5

Still feel that Fremantle may 'reach' for Marshall.
There are though no guarantees that anyone will bid for Bowes.....which would be/could be a shame for us.

This is basically the key to who we land.

Academy kids excluded:

McCluggage, Brody, SPS, McGrath are the top 4 IMO.

Guys like Marshall and English would be picked on "need" and a chance to be taken too, especially from someone like Fremantle. It depends on their trade period and who they pick up whether they take a Marshall or English before an SPS.

So if Gold Coast don't get a bid on Bowes before their pick 4... Chances are one of these guys are heading there.

So if GC don't get a bid, we will likely have a choice between Ainsworth, Marshall and Scrimshaw.

A lot of water to go under the bridge first, the trade period needs to be completed for everyone to have a better idea.

Agreed wholeheartedly I do not want to end up with "Bo Callahan"

Which is why McGrath and Brodie win a lot of points.
Andrew McGrath is our Vontae Mack

If GC get a live pick at 4, I wouldn't be surprised should they grab Ainsworth.

Bowes is a versatile midfielder, likened to Pendlebury and Simon Black by the academy folks.
Scheer is an inside mid, and could attract a bid late in the first round.

If they're grabbing two ready-made mids through their academy, I think they'd give serious consideration to Ainsworth to complement their tall forward stocks. He'd probably walk into the starting 22 ahead of Matera.

I had the same opinion, but losing JOM and Prestia, and Swallow being injured, they have no depth what so ever.

How is that even possible after all the concessions they have had, wow.
Irrespective of players lost.

That list of picks doesnt include the Prestia and JOM picks either.

GCS are screaming out for established players. I say we trade some out to them and try and get some of those 1sts off them.

Whichever club has the balls to make the decision, and then the ability to convince a good/very good player to go to G.C, is going to get a huge bargain re draft picks in return.

Let's see who that smart club is.

Not sure who we'd have that would suit.

Kreuzer?
Daisy?
White?
Everitt?
Armfield?

Of that lot, I'd think Kreuzer, White and Everitt might appeal to them - maybe offer them up for Pick 10 and probably a downgrade of later picks in GC's favour?

Daisy and Armfield might be good for them culturally, but Daisy has his injury/form concerns and I don't think Dennis would want to leave Melbourne given all the charity work he's involved in down here - probably not gonna get a deal done for either of them.

Then maybe we could offer up Whiley, Dick and/or Graham - hope to get a mid-late second rounder (30ish) for a pair of them?

The problem is that our ability to do trades like that will hinge on us getting a multi-player deal working in our favour (eg. 4 GWS players for 2 picks) so we don't have to go too deep in the draft to fill spots.

Send our second (23) and pick 30 to GWS for Marchbank, Barrett, Tomlinson and Stewart.

Send Tuohy to Sydney for a late first (17 or 18, probably), and we'd be going in to 2017 with limited senior bodies, but some high draft picks.

OUT: Kreuzer, White, Everitt, Whiley, Graham, Tuohy + Walker and Jamison retired + delistments.
IN: Marchbank, Barrett, Tomlinson, Stewart

Go to the draft with 5, 10, 17, 41, 50. (McGrath, Scrimshaw, Clarke, Kerr + someone?)
Upgrade Byrne.
Three new rookies, including a ruck and hopefully Kerbatieh.
Maybe a DFA or two to facilitate some preferred delistments.

Get out of my head brother.

Give them Gibbs, Kruezer and Everitt. Get back picks 4 and 6.
