Where did I say he's injury prone now? I said in three years time he won't have the same impact on games and will be injury prone as most 30 year olds are.

Next time before you start laughing, make sure you at least read what is being said because it will be HIGHLY unlikely that at 30 (that's right, not 29) he will have the same impact on games and our season as he is today. Also, he will most likely become more injury prone as his body ages.

Do you think he would provide leadership and a wise head at 30??

Lists need to be balanced, age wise...

For your benefit, with such a raft of Academy Players likely to be in the top 20 picks, here's a list of players available to the normy clubs like us. It is safe for us to focus on these players, then we can largely forget about any academy picks, provided our fellow normy clubs force the Northerners to bid on their players appropriately, but we can leave that to the List Managers and Recruiting Officers of the AFL teams, we on the other hand can focus on the open boys. Those boys are, courtesy of Knightmare;
*Note these 15 players are the full extent of the non Academy players in the top 25, meaning Knightmare at least rates 10 academy player sinside the top 25, what a rort, what a joke, but oh well. Here goes.

My person target list for the first round is as such, we should get as many of these players in, Battle and any other key position players are not what we need, and outside types like McGrath are meh, and obviously we don't need young defenders in the first round.

1. McLuggage
2. Brodie
3. Petrovski-Seton
4. Ainsworth (Non Inside Mid)
5. Gallucci
6. Powell-Pepper
7. Sharenberg
8. Drew
9. Venables (Non Inside Mid)
10. Simpkin (Non Inside Mid)

If we keep our first pick, we'll definitely get one of these players, if we have two picks in the first round, there is EVERY chance we could get two of these, as the other rated kids that we don't need + Academy boys will take up a lot of the first round. If we have 3 picks in the first round there is a decent possibility we could get three of these kids. I'm excited.

Another pick in the top 30 would be good. A lot of talent I think has strong midfield potential around there:

Taranto, Graham, Clarke, Parfitt, Simpkin, Drew all have some sort of AFL-level midfield talent (Simpkin is more forward, but has a lovely kick).

Also a fan of Tyson Stengle. Played well inside 50 for SA.

I'm not sure McLuggage, Petrevski-Seton or Gallucci are inside mids either. Not from what I have seen at any rate.

I do think Ainsworth and Venables have shown the aggression to go inside from time to time and I have seen them there. Haven't watched all of the champs however.

Before we go any further, what does 'Group 9' mean to you ?

I'll tell you what IanW, I will give you a chance to convince me that the Riverina area should be maintained by GWS.

If the fact that there has been a low output of AFL talent the main reason, then why do GWS get such an area and not say Melbourne, Bulldogs...
If low output is a reason, then there are plenty of places in WA that have low output, can Fremantle and the Eagles have those zones?

Just really trying to understand a viable reason for the Riverina area being included in the GWS academy system.

Petrovski-Seton can win the ball, but is better in space. McLuggage does well in the contest but will need to put on size to compete at AFL level. Gallucci has been pretty good from what I have seen.

Like Kade Simpson, Sam Mitchell, Shaun Burgoyne, Nick Riewoldt, Brent Harvey, Jordan Lewis, Jarrad McVeigh, Heath Grundy, Jimmy Bartel, Corey Enright, Andrew Mackie, Heath Shaw, Matthew Boyd, Scott Thompson (of the Crows variety), Eddie Betts (turns 30 at the end of this year) etc etc etc.

Come on now. If I wanted I could post a larger list of 30 year olds who are injury prone so my point stands that most 30 year olds become injury prone.

The follow up to Ed Wood's Sci-fi masterpiece??

Group 9 is where Steve Mortimer, Laurie Daley, Trent Barrett come from, to name only three.

You can argue it's not rugby league heartland, but thats generally only done by people without a clue who those three are.

Yeah sorry its meant to be (Non Inside/Utility)

Stealing players from Rugby League is REAL DOWN LOW on my priorty list haha, **** the NRL, i'll take a fair compeition with a few more New South Welshman playing NRL, over a side full of possible NRL stars dominatinf the leage

Be nice to snag Kerr with a late pick, time to teach the kid how to interview badly for the other 17 clubs like Essendon* do.

"Patrick how would like to play for us here at ......" " Go **** yourselves" something along those lines should do.

See, what you call 'stealing players from Rugby League', the AFL calls 'growing the game'.

In any case, the way the rules are set up, the Academy clubs have to send players out the door - and not by them going out of contract and in the PSD - to get the draft picks to get the academy kids, and if another club likes them more than we do, then off they go.

In the case of GWS, the talent that we've had to get rid of to get those points is *quick maths* pretty impressive.

Case in point, Steele. Who is currently uncontracted. And, if rumour is to be believed, Carlton-bound. And was himself an academy pick ...

Both games had some quality about them today and I was quite impressed with more players than I had expected to be impressed with.

Brodie was the standout from my point of view.
Pushes himself to get to every contest and then to impact upon it. Smart, strong ball-winner.
McCluggage not as impactful today but just has an aura about him when he's close to the ball. Beautiful mover and thinks before executing.
Really like Worpel from Vic Country, also. Just kept running, receiving and moving the ball to advantage.
Korewha is an interesting prospect. Not sure how he's rated but seems to get to where he should be and impact upon contests.

Metro players that stood out to me:
Jack Scrimshaw looks like a quality backman that has good run and carry. Liked him a lot.
Callum Brown could be a hand MOR midfielder for the Pies. Really liked some of his work, again....and Daicos had his moments also.
Gallucci was very good but I don't know what it is, but I just don't feel confident about him.
Sam Hayes is an under-ager but one to watch out for next year. Really looks the goods for a 200cm tall.
Really lied the look of Dylan Clarke again. Looks bigger than the listed 187cm.
Taranto pretty good and Venebales patchy but I can't say how much game time he had. Must have been limited along withe several others.
Some players just disappeared for long patches through both games.
Kerr looked capable every time the ball came down his way. Doesn't seem to be rated by many but he looked class today.
McGrath not as dominant as in recent weeks but a guy that just works fast with ball in hands. He's very quick to move the ball on.

W.A.
Narkle worked hard all day. Impressive game.
SPP is a beast. Too strong for many of the guys here, today.
Petrevski-Seton is class but did get caught on several occasions. Clear quality but very outside today.

Several of the key Allies guys didn't play today.

Jordy Gallucci really goes under the radar...Would be a solid second round pick.

Like Worpel too, reminds me of Blakely in his draft year. Brodie far and away the best inside mid. Scharenberg, Clarke and Graham other inside mids of note...haven't seen enough of the Allies but Bowes and co would be up there.

Powell-Pepper is like a less polished Dusty Martin but the Academy coaches seem to rate his leadership which is a huge plus IMO. SPS is a risky pick, not sure he's suitable for a rebuilding club where he'll be under pressure to perform given a high draft pick.

Really hope Ainsworth plays midfield rest of the year...IMO he'll be the best mid of the whole draft. Makes me worry about a potential GWS4 trade where we lose our picks in the top 30. As of right now our picks 42 and 48 would be ideal for Gold Coast in exchange for pick 28. The danger then is we have too many outs and not enough picks to replenish the list with quality.

Be nice to snag Kerr with a late pick, time to teach the kid how to interview badly for the other 17 clubs like Essendon* do.

He looks like an exciting prospect. Good hands and he really is well and truly part of the Carlton family.

If ladder positions stayed the same this is what I think could happen.
1 Essendon - Brodie (safest midfield pick)
2. Brisbane - Ainsworth
3. Gold Coast - Petrevski-Seton (keeping in mind Bowes will come in too)
4. Fremantle - McCluggage
5. GWS - Marshall
6. Carlton - Scharenberg
