The mosquito fleet would never have got a game if it were up to some.
Do we need mosquitoes right now when the trend is for big-bodied mids ??

Ainsworth is a small forward, not a mid plus he is really small, Matty Wright size 179cm.
We aren't going to use #4 or #5 on a player of that ilk when we have more pressing needs to attend to.

Why does it matter? Theyre the next best, bid on them, if they come to us, great, if not we make GWS/GC pay top price for them, and then take the next kid.Do you really think their academy clubs are going to let them slide to us ??

Rioli - 177cm
Puopolo - 173cm
Walters - 177cm
Betts - 173cm
Now i do realise most of the guys above were taken late in the draft, but they have become stars of the competition.
If Ben Ainsworth could give us this kind of output from his second year onwards we should be rapt...we certainly need players who know how to find the goals.
How many midfields contain multiple big bodied mids?
Why bid on Bowes & Setterfield unless it is purely tactical ??

Dogs, Swans, Cats & Hawks.
Talking height not weight. They all put on weight and Ainsworth is no lightweight.
Ben Ainsworth
Height: 177cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 10/2/1998
Recruited From: Gippsland Power
Position: Small Forward
He'd be the lightest at our club by 2kgs.
Not the point, really. You draft/bid on the player that's most suitable to your needs, thus assuring the draft remains as even as possible under the current system. It's not "tactical", it's common sense. Bidding on a player that you don't really want at that pick, yet knowing that the appropriate club would match it regardless, would be tactical.Do you really think their academy clubs are going to let them slide to us ??
It's a three year rebuild. Doesn't matter when you get the players. If we can get a gun small forward then maybe you take him if he's the best available. Always best available in first round. Only when you're a top club can you pick and chose so to speak.
Not necessarily, Weitering looks like he can play as a KPF and it would depend just how highly rated the key defender was in comparison to the midfielder.I disagree...there should always be an element of 'needs' basis, even for a bottom club.
Eg Brisbane Lions had Matthew Leunberger as their main ruck, yet still took Billy Longer at pick #8 a few years ago...but they couldnt play in the same side and so Longer languished in the 2's and eventually left to St Kilda for more opportunities (although he's now stuck behind Hickey).
From a Carlton perspective, it doesnt seem to be the case this year but imagine the best player at our first pick was ANOTHER key defender...should we take him or the next best player who, for example, was an inside mid?? You'd want us to take the midfielder every day of the week.
Who do you like Harks?

And we need a key defender too.
