It's more of a crumming type small forward that they are lacking.
Don't think there is one of very high quality in this draft.
you could be right, but GWS want Walters (Freo) in exchange for McCarthy from what I saw in the Age this week, so if it happened they would get their small crumbing forward before the draft.......if the swap happened of course !!!

i am sure sheehan is very knowledgable and knows what he is doing. i think the point is you cant always trust what they say. understandably they would be biased or slant things to suit their position
tell me why.........who can you trust if not them who work with the kids? tell us who is more qualified than they are......maybe we should ask other clubs perhaps !!!

I said that about a month ago on our list forum, (about next year being a bumper crop of kids according to C.Twomey and Sanderson) and got jumped on for my troubles by a few on here, so now people seem to believe in what Twomey is saying about the 2017 draft and think that we should hang onto our early picks as I alluded to in the other forum.......my how things have changed !!! Some people are too busy being critical to keep an open mind about a possibility it seems !!! p.s. don`t shoot the messenger!!!

Was it the same few people who have changed their minds? If not, you're attempt at point scoring is redundant.

Also define 'jumped on'.

See this is a large forum with a lot of diverse opinions. A lot of people want to go to the draft and have expressed as much so there are no prizes for expressing such a thing. Some want to trade. Some want to consider all options depending on the deal and not rule anything out prematurely.

Someone who is arguing their case is not jumping on you as such and the chances are they have had thst same discussion with many others.

no one said they aren't qualified. they would know as much as anyone. the comment was that people will say things to push their own agenda's or bias especially in regards to their own position so you cant always trust what is said.

1. Brisbane - McLuggage
2. Essendon - Brodie
3. Fremantle - Petrevski Seton
4. Gold Coast - Bowes (Carlton Bid)
5. GWS - Setterfield (Carlton Bid)
6. Carlton - Perryman, Ainsworth, Marshall, Drew, Gallucci, Scharenberg, Powell-Pepper, Clarke, McGrath, Venables will all be very even... i wouldnt like being in that position.

Looking at that list of players available at our 1st pick (and you can add Kerr and Battle to that as well) trading it for two later 1st rounders looks a total no brainer.

Im starting to feel a little worried about our draft position.

Besides McLuggage, Brodie and the Academy boys - Bowes, Perryman and Setterfield the rest of the midfielders are really even in my eyes all the way down to about 15+

We could end up going for say a Willem Drew at #4, when we might of got him at #12, or Powell-Pepper/Scharenberg when we could of got them at #15.

This draft is a little concerning. Im sure there will be great players inside the top 20, but perhaps like the 2013 draft, it may be really hit and miss after about pick #4.

I guess we just have to hope a few of the other boys bolt and make one of Brodie/McLuggage fall to us, OR it could be the draft to trade out first for a couple of later mid teens picks.

Im still really hopeful we can get Brodie, and if the club heres rumours of certain players being higher or lower on draft boards we should go for it, but if things stay as they are now, it could be the draft to go for a two-for-one.

Let's say GC end up finishing above us on the ladder, and we end up with pick #4. The current trends suggest;

1. Brisbane - McLuggage
2. Essendon - Brodie
3. Fremantle - Petrevski Seton
4. Gold Coast - Bowes (Carlton Bid)
5. GWS - Setterfield (Carlton Bid)
6. Carlton - Perryman, Ainsworth, Marshall, Drew, Gallucci, Scharenberg, Powell-Pepper, Clarke, McGrath, Venables will all be very even... i wouldnt like being in that position.
I wouldn't rule out Fremantle taking a tall for their first pick - providing they keep it of course.
It's highly unlikely that McCarthy will be worth a pick in the first half dozen after spitting the dummy all year, and I don't think that Hill is worth a pick that low either but Fremantle may have to trade that pick down to get lower first round picks to do both those deals.
If they miss out on McCarthy, and keep their first pick, then I wouldn't be surprised to see them use it on English from South Fremantle. 200+cm KPF.
That would throw open the whole field.
English is said to be a late developer height wise, so he has the elite foot skills of a mid because that's where he has played most of his footy.
I hope that this is the option that Fremantle take so that one of McCluggage/Brodie/Venables, etc is still available - if we keep our first pick instead of down trading that of course!!!!!!
It will be an interesting trade period!

Isnt English a ruckman, not a KPF?

I doubt that Freo are going to waste a first round pick on a ruckman. I would hazard a guess that they would be more inclined to use their first round pick on Marshall, who will be a 2-3 year development project, rather than chasing a mid. Freo are probably going to try and do a deal involving Barlow being traded for a late first round pick which would then be ontraded to GWS in exchange for McCarthy.

The potential deals coming out of Freo will be interesting as they need a tall forward to replace Pav. I don't think that they have faith in their backups that are already in place.

I think its a waste having a high pick in this draft. We should use our position to pry players from other clubs. If we can do that and keep two picks inside the second round we would be doing OK.

I don't see how we can get any more picks under 20 unless we traded Gibbs or Kreuzer.

i thought we were courting Jordan Gallucci as our Marc Murphy replacement...has his prospect dropped from last year... no one seems to mention him much

He is nowhere near our likely pick. Probably more a 12-20 pick.

I was thinking more Jarrod Blair.

His kicking looks suspect. Like the rest of his game though. Plays very tall for a little bloke and reads the play very well.
Jamie Elliot. Ainsworth is a gun. The most talented kid in the draft in my view. I'll be surprised if he is still there for us.

A friend of mine is very in the know with the under 18's and has a lot to do with Vic Metro. He is absolutely adamant that McGrath should be pick 1. I questioned him on it and he said he'll start at half back and become a midfielder quickly. Just said that everything about him is good and his character is exceptional. At pick four or five I think he'd be a good pick and I think he'll be available.

Yes. Even though he has played back, midfield really looks his go.........and I'd rarely say that.
Very much a Z. Merrett type of player, for mine and would prefer him over Ainsworth.

McCluggage apparently BOG again this weekend. Won't hurt his chances.
