Those mcgrath vids were great. Elite speed and evasion. Great vision and time on the footy. It is definitely fair to question his disposal, which appeared average at best. Missed some easy targets and most that he hit were with a ton of time.

I would also query whether he is a true mid or not. I cant stand the idea of teaching a complete new game to a player. Seems as though he spent at least a small amount of time at the feet of the rucks.

I am still in love with venables. The big bodied mid/fwd with great core strength and break away speed. Some knocks on his disposal too. I feel like so many games can be won at the centre bounce. I feel like have an guy with great strength at the contest AND elite quickness can really give us that double edged sword at clearances with cripps.

Can someone post the mccluggage vids please?

My opinion is that we should use our first pick (4 or 5 etc) on the best KPP still left, then load up on the best mids and wingers/flankers still available.

FWIW I think Essendon will trade pick #1 (probably to Gold Coast as part of a deal for Prestia).

I am starting to think that it will more likely be pick #6-#7 than #4-#5. Of our upcoming games we play

St. Kilda
Lions
Demons
*


Lions and * should be wins, possibly % boosts considering how well we have played the last couple of weeks and how they are falling apart. St Kilda is a probable loss and Melbourne could go either way.


At the same time I cannot see Richmond winning again this year with games against
Pies
Cats
St. Kilda
Swans

Similarly the Suns have
Giants
*
Pies
Port


And Melbourne have
Hawks
Port
Carlton
Cats


There is every chance that the game in rd 22 between Carlton and Melbourne will determine who finishes above the other, and we could end up with #7 in the draft.


P.S I am prob not referring to you directly DVB just wanted to bring up the topic in the thread.

Can understand Brodie to Essendon at this stage. Easy enough.

McLuggage to Brisbane? They've no-one like him and he writes his own ticket........unless he doesn't want to go to Brisbane.

Fremantle? SPS is the class that Bennell should have been. Are they confident in getting back, the best of Bennell?
Freo also likely to get B. Hill that is quick and carries the ball, so if all things being well, that all makes for a lot of outside speed along with S. Hill.
Can't help seeing Freo reach for a KPP.

If we end up with pick #7 then Venables will have to be the most likely choice imo.

McCluggage SPS Brodie Bowes will be gone before our pick

McGrath & Gallucci are the next best outside the academy kids

Marshall doesn't come across competitive enough
Venables doesn't find it enough
 
I think we'll end up with pick 4 at worst pick 5.
Saints and Demons will be very difficult opponents can't see us bumping them off.
Lions at the Gabba won't be push overs either , the only really winnable game is the very last against the Bombers.
Hopefully Richmond and the Suns win one more game too.

Who picked Freo to take Hill a few years ago, at around this point in time?
Oliver only started to come into calculation at about this time last year and Plowman was a far outsider in 2012.

You just don't know what may come about and by whom just yet. Everything is still up in the air, to a point.

Agree with the majority of your post but Dangerfield was a half forward who didn't get much of the ball until his 5th AFL season. Venables easily ticks the three big boxes of size, skill and speed. After a few pre-seasons and some time with AFL development coaches he could be something special.

One thing I like to advise draft enthusiasts is that you're not looking for the best junior footballers, you're looking for the best junior footballers who can compete against the best footballers and athletes in the country.

Dangerfield was also selected with pick 10, because a few clubs did not want to risk a high pick on him. Sometimes it gets easier to take the risk on a Dangerfield styled selection when you have a higher pick.

I think Selwood was the same concept, risky pick that people with high draft selections were not willing to take.

They could turn out to be Dangerfield or JON.
 
Brodie and Mcluggage will be gone before our pick so I'm hoping for Venables and I think Scrimshaw is ahead of Gallucci now so I'd be happy with one of those
 
I watched those videos posted by Harker of McGrath and was impressed. Hadn't seen that footage of vic country vs metro. Apart from some scrappy kicks to begin with he looked really good. More dynamic than l thought he was. When l watch that l think he would be a very safe pick in terms of knowing what you will get. Could play round 1 next year.

People have mentioned McGrath is a docherty type of player. To me he's a midfield version of docherty. Much better run and movement.

I don't necessarily think we will win anymore games maybe the * game yes but unless we get some more goals on the board we are not going to win Imo more than 1 game . I don't care how impressive we looked the last 3 weeks against quality opposition you have to kick goals to win . 8 to 10 goals in a game isn't going to win games . With curnow out and casboult most likely as well through injury who has been poor of late but he does add some sort of structure that I can't see a Jones or Jaksch adding . Our forward line is now a complete shambles .

I can't agree with this, we got close to 3 finals sides, including 2 of the best in the comp, and you don't think we can beat lesser sides? yes 8 goals doesn't win games but we will kick more than 8 against lesser sides! their defence will be weaker too remember. I think we will win 2 more games this season.

I did mention the form against the last 3 weeks against quality opposition . Just an opinion that we will struggle to kick a winning score against any opposition we shall see :D happy to be proven wrong on this one btw .

An important thing to remember with Dangerfield is Adelaide put ALLOT of development into him.

I am from Adelaide, and follow them quite closely. It was quite clear from those first 5 years he would be a star. But what Adelaide did was not rush him into the midfield. He didn't haven the tank and tbf didn't have the mentality. But what they did was basically play him as a forward pocket/full forward with spells in the midfield. And each year he spent slightly more and more time in the middle until about his 5th/6th year where the fully let him loose. There was a clear development plan with him, and it worked perfectly. One reason, even though it was done very, very well, they were still upset he left. They put allot of time and effort into getting him to the player he is.



The point of that long winded answer is that risky players who are considered risky need to be selected by strong, stable clubs. Clubs who can put the proper time and resources into players to develop properly, not just get game time and train hard and you'll be right.
