I do like Scrimshaw but thought we do have half backs who are playing well.
Thanks for the thoughts.

From what I've seen of Scrimshaw, his got plenty of attributes that would suggest he may be able to make it as a tall mid.
His got really clean hands rarely fumbles, moves really well through traffic with ball in hand, runs really well (11 hand ball receives last week) and his left foot kicking is top shelf. His 193cm but just looks so smooth and balanced when kicking the footy.
Only thing I'd like to see before the end of the year is for him to play on ball and see if he can win contested ball on the inside.
Could be a huge bolter on draft day.

Yep great stats there Jimmae - summed up here:

Average Kicks across 5 TAC games - 15.6 (78 total)
Average H/Balls - 15.8 (79 total)
Total average disposals - 31.4 (157)

Disposal Efficiency by foot - 70.5%
Disposal Efficiency by hand - 91.1%
Overall Disposal Efficiency - 80.9%

Excellent numbers there :thumbsu:
Not only are his numbers great but from all reports his character is exceptional. We've taken so many blokes over the past few years who had questionable character but with Cripps, Doc and Weiters coming through it would be great to add McGrath. Look at the Swans, their culture has been built by people like McVeigh, Bolton, Goodes etc.

Yeah but they are not afraid to go after players with questionable characters like Buddy and Hannebury has had his problems.

Watching some McGrath highlights, I'm warming to the idea of him at 4/5. A few things I've noticed, primarily that he absolutely looks like a midfielder:

- Reads the game incredibly well
- Great user of the football by hand and foot
- Reads the ball well from stoppages and is a good clearance player
- Handles himself well under pressure and has quick reactions
- Has an excellent tank/athletic base so could play Round 1 if need be - running off the HBF and into the midfield
- Looks like he'd fit in the midfield going forward and wouldn't take long to transition to full-time mid

Not sure about his inside game of tackling, but from what I hear, he has excellent character and obvious leadership abilities (co-captain of Vic Metro) so seems one of the surest bets of those mentioned in top ten calculations. Someone mentioned a comparison to Marc, which I can see in the way he runs around and knows where the ball will be then hits his target (particularly by hand) 9/10.

Scrimshaw looked more to me than just a HBF'er (so did McGrath for that matter)
Very classy user and he seemed to have time to execute well.

Early days but I wouldn't be surprised should he come into top 10 calculation.
Agreed

I reckon most would be happy to take Ainsworth at 4, should SPS be unavailable. He's boosted his numbers, fills more than one need for us and has the ability to transition into a number of different roles; something that would be very attractive to Bolton.

He's also ready to go next year and would be a valuable contributor straight off the bat.

I wouldn't take Battle at all.
Our forward line looks ok, and with Ben coming in a couple of years i'd be looking at building our midfield and backline first.
Would also look at taking a ruckman as well, perhaps later in the draft.
Yes really good questions all round, truth is the teams such as swans and hawks have depth covering all areas and we are just trying to get a decent A grade spread of players, our defence has already suddenly been complimented as solid or reputable so its difficult to focus on a key area knowing harry will be ripe in a yr or so along with charlie and jack...in the meantime we have worst attack in AfL so its a waiting game?...other aspect which is possibly our midfield pace/strength/depth,and or a small forward pace.We need future A graders developed from draft ..too expensive to trade A graders to Carlton so we will have to manufacture our own..we dont want to pick up yet more B grade players who are ok potentially it wont get us anywhere and we will be recycling them soon enough as we have been seeing...and without much success for northern for it along the way.
Rogers set us back from what we are seeing now and the list managers before him.....i do believe we have professionals now in place and wont tolerate it anymore...this club needs to be regenerated back to a high contender.and it will be a big job from where we are at this time.

Let's take each pick as it comes and see who is there. I'd rather pick a forward at pick 50, say, who is just starting to develop but with plenty of upside, than someone who is more of a known quantity and is ranked about the 30th best potential midfielder in the talent pool. We need to be opportunist rather than simply ticking off a set of priorities in order. It never works out that smoothly.

Ratagolea(spelling) at our Pick 48 from the Doggies trade.

At Pick 4 or 5, if you are wanting to draft a midfielder, i would prefer picking someone who already is a pure mid or a mid/forward rather than a hbf/mid.

Can't get keen on McGrath for us so high in the draft order.

There is plenty to get excited about with McGrath. Would be happy with him @5.
He has got a lot of really good attributes, which could translate to a outside mid.
He's one of the best ball carriers in this draft and can really run and take the game on.
Went on to Anisworth when he was on fire at champs and shut him down, very impressive.
Wins a stack of footy whenever he plays, he's had a game were he had 19 tackles, he's got really good pace, was Vic Metro Captain and people speak very highly of him.
Some people liken him to Murphy, IMO he has Jack Stevens running outside mid potential.

Yeah i know about him. And i like him as a player.

Just not as high as Pick 4 or 5 for US. Just my opinion.

IMO you would like McGrath to turn out exactly like Docherty if you drafted him. And we already have Docherty.

Again, i like McGrath....just not at our very high pick.

Mcgraths a far better mover than docherty. He's a combination of athlete and footballer. Easily has the running power to be a midfielder. Always on the move with energy.

I really like your posting but for god's sake please learn the difference between his and he's before I throw my laptop through the window!

Will try to keep that in mind.
Don't throw your lap top out the window, I'm just some random person on BF that didnt get much of an academic education. Stay in school kids

If Marshall has a big finish to the year, it would really make things interesting come draft night.
Could really affect the top 5.

Yes, because none of the top rated midfielders are necessarily a stand-out prospect.
Marshall is tall, agile, has some pace for his height, seems very athletic, and appears to have good hands in marking contests and a good kick.
Pretty good package.

Only needs three years to bulk up. Time is something we have in spades.

My main concern is does he have the shoulders to get big enough.

At pick 4 we have our choice of (Brodie, McLuggage, SPS, Ainsworth, Marshall).

I really want us to make a play for GCS pick 5 to get two of those 5.

We don't have our choice of those players, not all will be available to us there.

Wouldn't GC need 5 to get Bowes?

3 will be taken, leaving two. Likely one of SPS/ Marshall and Ainsworth.

Wouldn't GC need 5 to get Bowes?

Nope. He's an academy player.

If (for example) he gets bid on at 3 (and GCS choose to match that bid, which they would) they pay for him with their next pick (wherever that pick may be) with a 20 percent discount applied on top. Doesnt matter if their next pick is pick 5 or pick 30.

He'll get bid on before 5 comes around (we can make sure of that), and if he hasnt been by the time pick 5 comes around, they'll select a different player with 5 (and use their next pick to pay for him).
