The cursed pick 6.

Yeah I find it remarkable that pick #6 has been such a bust over the years yet pick #5 has yielded the likes of Pendlebury, Franklin, Boak, Hurley & Stringer since 2003.

Funnily enough, the Bombers have had pick #6 3 times since 2003...

Here's the list:

2003 - Kepler - Essendon
2004 - Tom Williams - Dogs
2005 - Dowler - Hawks
2006 - Thorp - Hawks
2007 - Myers - Essendon
2008 - Yarran - Carlton
2009 - Rohan - Sydney
2010 - Conca - Richmond
2011 - Wingard - Port
2012 - Macrae - Dogs
2013 - Sharenberg - Pies
2014 - Marchbank - GWS
2015 - Francis - Essendon

I hope we beat Essendon but only by a few goals and Tigers don't lose by much. That way we'll have pick #5 and avoid the curse...

Yarran is close to the best out of that lot.

It's certainly gotten better over the last few years, Sharenberg aside. Rohan, Wingard & Macrae are good, as will Marchbank be if he comes to us obviously...

SOS doesn't do curses though. He'll pick a Brownlow medal winning, 5-time premiership playing, HOF legend at pick 6. It's a lock. Beat * by 120+ I say!!

Pick 6 would suck. The top 5 (not including academy selections) are looking damn good.

One of Brodie, Ainsworth, SPS, Marshall or McLuggage available there. We might reach a bit with pick 6. Cant see a clear winner at 6.

Reckon Venables might come into contention. ODN would be happy.

If we get cursed with a Wingard type (Ainsworth) it would be worthwhile.

Honestly, think Brodie, McGrath and Ainsworth are the 'safest' picks in the top range this year. So even if we miss out on one of the top 4/5 - Ainsworth/McGrath would be excellent additions and very likely 200 game players for Carlton.

Have been very out of it this year starting a new job and all.
Can someone fill me in on the top 5 prospects currently that might interest us come Draft time?

Well for starters, we'll finish above Richmond and thus have pick 6.

Anyway... Aside from academy kids there's a ball magnet named Brodie, a matchwinner in McLuggage, a smooth mover in Petrevski-Seton as your top 3. Then there's a goalsneak turned Boomer Harvey in Ainsworth, a half forward in Venables and captaincy material in McGrath off the half backline. Someone might reach for a tall forward in Marshall, a ruck in English or a beanstalk utility in Scrimshaw.

How tall is Ainsworth?? Watching some of his highlights he reminds me a lot of Aaron Hamill who was only 184.

So would McGrath. Had 39 touches on the weekend.

With so many interstate clubs with picks before us, it's really hard to say who we may end up with.
Scrimshaw and McGrath would have to be in the picture.

Very much warming to McGrath now myself.

Yeah. Love the way he runs with the footy and is always looking to take the game on.
We could certainly use his pace and the shut down job he did on Anisworth was very impressive.
Reminds me a little of Jack Stevens
From all reports really good kid, with good leadership skills.

Isn't McGrath predominantly a half back flanker? Like another Docherty?

While that sounds great especially since he's captain material, we need a true midfielder, not a flanker who can pinch hit in the middle
