Isn't McGrath predominantly a half back flanker? Like another Docherty?

While that sounds great especially since he's captain material, we need a true midfielder, not a flanker who can pinch hit in the middle
He was a midfielder all through junior footy but has been played as a back flanker more in the last year and a half.
Played midfield for Dragons on Saturday and dominated. It must be noted however that Sandy play a high possession game.

I would say he is a true midfielder.

Scrimshaw would be a great pickup. Marcus Bontempelli 2.0.

Definitely not the best player in this draft now, probably not even top 10.

But will become one of the best.

I'd have Scrimshaw in the top 10.
193cm Moves really well and he's left foot passing is one of the best in his draft class.
Injuries have played a part in keeping him out of the midfield, but that's were I think he will end up.
Wouldn't be disappointed if SOS called out his name on draft night.

Think he's shown he can win his own footy and be prolific in which ever position he is playing.
The way he runs with the footy, would suggest he could make it as a outside mid.
Ticks a lot of boxes for a high end recruit, would be a very safe pick IMO.

It's easy to get carried away with small samples but I loved what I saw of him, live.
Have no idea of the character of the person but if it's A-Grade, I'd be looking at him very closely.

I know he played off the half back flank but it's hard not to see a midfielder/winger in there somewhere.

I haven't seen much of Scrimshaw, but where do you think he'll play at AFL level?

Yes...and here comes the hypocrite in me again, but he just looks like a mid to me.

Reminds me of Essendon's Zach Merrett. Anyone else see this or am I wrong?

Hope we bring home the 4 points and give the team some momentum looking forward to next season, but I hope we hang on to pick 5.
If Suns are pushed into taking Bowes at pick 4 and Freo take a tall at Pick 3 Marshall. Then some gold may drop to pick 5.

I see him as a midfielder too, a defensive minded midfielder with dash.

That's dangerous thinking. Needs to put up serious midfield numbers to be a serious option in the AFL. Docherty has mid traits too but wouldn't go as well as he does down back

McGrath is a midfielder though, he just played a more defensive role across half-back during the champs.

From Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro

It's been a big year for McGrath, who continues to shoot up the draft board. Some recruiters have him ranked in their top-three players in the country. He co-captained Vic Metro to the under-18 championships and followed that by skippering his school team Brighton Grammar to its APS premiership in Victoria. McGrath has versatility. He's shown his ability as a quick, rebounding half-back but he can also just as comfortably play as a tough, committed midfielder who takes the game forward. Will be playing senior AFL footy early next year.

Still stuck on the same names for now but that will likely change in weeks to come.

Brodie, McCluggage, Petrevski-Seton, McGrath, Ainsworth & Scrimshaw.

The one guy who I feel may drop down the pecking order, is actually Brodie. Has many terrific traits but not really a stand out one, to me.

I know what you're saying... I feel like he will just get in Cripps way...

I haven't seen much of Scrimshaw, but where do you think he'll play at AFL level?

For a kid who has been predominately injured over the last two years he moves really well.
Very clean ball handling skills and moves through heavy traffic with ease.
Add all that to he's bullet of a left boot and he's got all the tools to make it as a tall mid.
Think injury is the only reason we haven't seen him in the midfield so far this year.

Absolutely definately we go for four points final game v ESS ,we have momentum as well after some hard work and should push them even with our weak forward setup.Time to blood McKay should be ok and can move him if required...wont be a huge margin because it hasnt been that sort of year however 3-5 goals would do...its a good opportunity for us to take them and that we should.

Needs to clean up his disposal, still if we end up with pick 6. Venables and Clarke/Scrimshaw would be great.

Pick 6 though bit more palatable to trade away than 4. GWS4 for pick 6 hmmm

I may get howled down because of this...mainly because Campbell is a campaigner lol...but McGrath reminded me of Campbell Brown as a player in the Champs games. Good run and attack on the ball. Good and courageous overhead. Often looks like he's still running too fast when he kicks, which affects his accuracy and depth control a bit.

Keep in mind Brown was a 200(?) game Premiership player, so it is not knocking McGrath.

Imo McCluggage is clear 1. SPS and Brodie 2&3. Maybe Ainsworth at 4. Then very little between 5 & about 13. Then we drop off to another tier.

I don't even recall much of C. Brown having dropped out of football for about a 7 year period.

I do though not remember him being as nimble and sharp as McGrath seems to be..........nor as smart........but he could have been.

I saw McGrath as a power athlete like Brown was.

I see Z.Merrett as much more smooth and skilful.

I guess not many quite saw that in Zach early on either, given he didn't get picked up until pick #26

Hard to be confident in pushing a view forward on as small a sample as I've seen, but I do feel McGrath will go top 10
