On the Draft - listened to Cal Twomey's Road to the Draft this morning (most recent) and he interviewed 6 x unnamed recruiters re the #1 pick.

3 x said McCluggage
1 x said Brodie
1 x said McGrath
1 x said either Ainsworth, English or McCluggage

Also was mention of Ainsworth or McGrath being a good fit for us.

Sounds like we can't lose.

Ainsworth presents the most value for me. He'll come in straight away and perform as a small forward then over time transition into a midfield role, which we also require.

I'm still not sure that 5 is set. Something tells me Freo will take Marshall, SPS will slip but we'll still take one of Brodie, Ainsworth or McGrath.

Pick #23

Hoping Jordan Galluci or Jonty Scharenberg

Also if we do not sell the farm to get Marchbank, I would enjoy the services of will Josh Rotham or Brennan Cox

If all 4 have gone Patrick Kerr come on down

Funny how opinions vary isn't it. I'm hoping for just about anyone bar those 2 at 23.

Would be awesome if we could somehow keep our 2nd pick. Could almost have the likes of Gallucci, Clarke, Scharenberg available. It's been said next year's draft is even better but some of these midfield names are very likely types for a pick 23ish

Interesting. What are the question marks over them TW? I've heard some are worried about Jordy's kicking while Scharenberg is a bit Brock McLean like...

I just prefer others i guess. Players like Logue, Sympkin, Battle, Kerr, Berry, Drew etc who i think will transfer to AFL level better.

I don't see much scope in Gallucci at all and i wouldn't really like Scharenburg in there with Crippa. Cripps is a one in a decade first ball winner. We must build our midfield around him. I think there are more complimentary players with at least as good AFL hopes we could find rather than Jonty.

Jonty ill agree with ya

Just a defence for Jordan Gallucci he was co captain in the vic metro so clearly has leadership qualities something we need. knighmare and I agree on his strengths which are

Strengths:
- Production
- Most damaging right-foot kick in draft with precision off one or two steps
- Able to kick on non-preferred left foot.
- Lowers eyes and demonstrates excellent vision and ability to hit inside 50m targets
- Quick, good decision-maker with ball in hand under pressure
- Agility
- Change of direction
- Accelerates away from packs
- Line breaking
- Football smarts
- Reads flight of ball well
- Intercept marking
- Versatility to play midfield, back or forward well
- Ground-ball winning
- Reading of ruck taps

Yeah, i'm not against differing opinions. Everyone gets things wrong and right.

I just see Gallucci as fully professional and mature at a young age. I think he has about reached his level, and you have to improve markedly from underage to AFL level. I kinda think of him as the Toumpas of his year.

I could be wrong of course, but i see him as list clogger material in a few years down the track.

Fair enough, I knida feel the same way about J Battle

I do enjoy Jy Simpkins C.V obvious talent if he can recover properly from his injury.

From what I saw of Drew in the Carnival his defence work was elite, loves a tackle

Willem Drew stood out for me in the highlights packages of other players - Ainsworth, Brodie and McLuggage.

(Who's that young kid at the coalface feeding the ball out to them?)

Willem Drew was a name that I read somewhere in a recent review that sounded like he was a bloke on a serious mission, hasn't got the hype or plaudits as some of the others but is shaping as one that may be a very handy pick-ups.

Caveat - I haven't seen any footage of him playing, just read some stuff on him.

Would love to get another very early pick because I think McGrath is the type of player we need. A real dasher who can play onball and has leadership written all over him (was VM Co-Captain). We need the dash and I want to keep adding leaders to the club (we’ve got some rippers already with Cripps, Weitering & Docherty). McGrath could last to GCs pick 9, or they might even get an even earlier pick for Prestia/JOM. How could we get their pick 9? Seriously, Ainsworth and McGrath would be awesome pick ups given our lack of young midfielders right now. I just have a gut feel McGrath will make the grade, so Mal maybe this is where a Gibbs trade makes sense.
Gibbs could have 5 years left in him give me another option or trade not from the mids to get that extra pick ? . Adding 2 young guns and losing a gibbs you may as well forget the extra early pick . Yes its better for the future i know :thumbsu:.

If Brisbane get a priority pick will that be pick 1 or first pick of the 2nd round?
Won't be pick 1. Too many clubs would cry foul. It will either be after non finalists in the first round or end of first round.

Not sure the AFL could justify giving a first round priority pick to a club that didn't finish last...

Of course they could because Essendon weren't really the worst team in the competition..........hang on.........but Essendon have pick #1.

I wonder how that works?

Just hate how Essendon appear to be rewarded with Pick 1 and the best talent in the country for - effectively - cheating. Yes, it's delayed given the years it took for the AFL/ASADA to actually impose player punishments. But it will absolutely give them a springboard to finals again much sooner than others. Add in Jaeger potentially, and I call BS.

Brisbane's list is arguably better than ours by some way in terms of breadth of young talent (I still believe our best 3-4 young kids trump theirs) - the fact their club is a basket case, have created a terrible culture and as a result have lost a few more games than us in the last 2 years (mainly this year).

No way do they deserve a Priority Pick. Just like the Dees before them - throwing picks at them won't solve theirs problems, just like it didn't with Melbourne or us before that. Culture and a good coach (hand in hand) do, which is something we've rectified in 2017.

If the Lions get that right - like we now have, and the Dees before us recently - then they'll be fine.

Will be pissed if the Lions and Essendon have picks 1-3 in the 2016 Draft.

Would be doing cartwheels if we could land Schanrenberg or Galluci with our second round pick.

Great stats and a lot of mentions in the 'bests', that's all I know about him.
