I've heard its not that great.
I'm just going on what I saw in the couple of championships matches I saw. It could be better, but considering that he was 16 at the time... it'll definitely improve.

So Brett Anderson has started talking up Tim English as a potential pick 3 for Freo. Sandilands obviously getting a bit older and this would allow another player to drop to us at 5. I'd be very wary of taking a ruckman that early but lets hope they do!

If the AFL give Brisbane a priority pick, it will be tantamount to the AFL conceding they didn't help the club enough in the past. Making amends, however it impacts other clubs.

Interesting to see Gil praise the R23 bye.

I am starting to think Gil is losing the battle and is resorting to BS to save face and hide his errors.

They should have found a way to stop North in the future from resting half their side in R23, and they should not have been so blatant in helping GC at the expense of Brisbane.

Is there another major sporting code in the world who change things every year? AFL I am sorry is starting to become a boring joke.

Same old sides win every year. Hawks keep being powerful now its through exploiting FA and yet the AFL do nothing to stop it.
Yep as John eliott said the salary cap and draft system are anti competitive, it's just a fact that some teams may never win a flag ever again , or at least in a supporters life time

The only reason (which is a good reason) that GWS would want our first years pick for this year, would be for a player they rate highly and would not get with their pick #7 (Am I thinking this through correctly? I may be wrong)

It's also possible that maybe they don't rate their Academy kids as much as we may think they should: Perryman, Setterfield, Macreadie etc. but if they do, they'll have no issue picking them up with the picks they hold.

A lot is going to gravitate around what GWS wants to do/chooses to do/is forced to do.
Understand them and we'll have a better idea of what may come about.

Why wouldn't they want to pick up a player in top 5 not from the academy?

That why I said: (which is a good reason)

GWS are in a very interesting position and as I've said 100 times over; They don't need talent just to stock-pile talent.
They need the right talent now to be contesting in and winning, Grand Finals.

That must clearly be their objective and they may well get that from the squad they have but a little more strength in a couple of areas may just make them closer to what they want.

List balance, one more in means one more out.

Reckon it could easily end up being them having to use pick 5 to match a bid, then using 7 or 8 on a non-academy player.

Early days but the top few are really shining through and not sure that any Academy guys will garner a top 5 selection.

We'll see how this goes but reckon Brodie, McCluggage, Petrevski-Seton, Marshall, McGrath, Ainsworth, Bowes, Scrimshaw and possibly English will all be taken before any nomination for Perryman & Setterfield. Maybe?

Would love to nab Will Brodie. I think with the way the draft order is, we are a real chance to have him available at our selection.

He is a perfect fit in our midfield IMO. Safe selection too.

Marshall was in the academy but a paperwork fumble screwed them. I reckon they are still keen

I thought the fumble was that they tried to include him when he wasn't eligible?

What is the rule around drafting players on other clubs Rookie list, I have been a big fan of Nick O'Kearney since he played as a junior and was super surprised he wasnt drafted last year, found his way onto Stkildas rookie list and since coming back from injury has been very good for Sandringham.. If Stkilda wont elevate him onto the senior list are we able to draft him?? If so I reckon he would be well worth a late pick.

Has very good skills for a big man, but i'd be wary of taking a big bloke that early in the draft.
