If Brodie, McLuggage, McGrath are gone by our pick then I think we simply have to take Scrimshaw.
Is being talked about as a Bontempelli/Birchall clone and has the perfect height and build to become that tall mid who gets his hands free in tackles, has the height to push forward and be a menace and basically just the perfect height to be that tall, modern and explosive midfielder that we crave to partner with Cripps.

So our main targets for this years draft are
Mids
Brodie
Taranto
Scrimshaw
Mcgrath
McCluggage

Fwds
Battle
Kerr
Ainsworth
Marshall

Who out of this list are we hottest on?
And what draft picks would we need to aquire to land the players we want?
Would suggest Taranto would be at the bottom of that list of mids by a margin, and Ainsworth would be at the top of the forwards by a similar amount.

I think if we took Scrimshaw we'd have a whale of a time.

IMO

1. McCluggage

2. Brodie
3. Petrevski-Seton

4. English

5 to 10 toss-ups. Bowes - Perryman - McGrath - Ainsworth - Venables - Taranto

11 to 13 toss-ups. Scrimshaw - Setterfield - Logue

14 to 16 toss-ups. Sympkin - Berry - Marshall

17 to very deep. Heaps and heaps of viable picks.

Our Pick 5 could land us any of the top picks bar McCluggage. Very valuable. It could viably get us our 1st or 2nd pick on SOS's Board.

I'd take McGrath here.

Scrimshaw.

Marshall.

Battle. Or even English who hasnt got a mention yet.

They are only my personal ratings. Everyone will have their preferences. Maybe others could post their personal rating orders for the Top end too. Bit o fun and interest. More the better.

BTW, English is at 4.

Just checked out Jacob Scrimshaw on Future Stars, who speaks very well and seems a good character.

Also love the look of his game. If we saw him as a midfielder then I'd consider him with a second pick in the top ten but if not well then we don't really have a big need for his type down back despite him having excellent disposal.

I started a thread for that, but it's somehow disappeared.

1. McCluggae
2. McGrath
3. Brodie
4. SPS
5. Scrimshaw
6. Taranto
7. Ainsworth

Haven't seen Bowes or the Academy guys.

McGrath would be a good fit. ATM I'm leaning towards him over Brodie but we may not get the chance.

Think Brodie will slide out of the top 3-4 for sure.

I still maintain we need SOS to work some magic and land us 3 picks inside the top 15 at a minimum, at least two inside the top 10.

My order for pick would be

McCluggage
Brodie
McGragh
(Bowes)
SPS
Ainsworth

I think I would play it safe and go in that order. SPS is the riskiest one of those but has the most talent IMO.

I am in the minority here but I would happily trade pick 5. For me this is one of the least exciting top group of players for a long time. In saying that the most exciting group I've seen was Gibbs, Gumbleton, Hansen, Luenberger and Boak and that didn't turn out too well.

But he's not though. He's too tall. Won't work.
Too tall to run all day like a midfielder at AFL level? Agree, but he's 203, runs like the wind and disposes of it at an elite level for the AFL. I reckon there might be a few places on the ground he could play without even knowing what he's supposed to be doing.

English?

Do you really want to pick up a young ruckman with an early pick who recently got smashed by a WAFL ruckman?

He's skinny and weak. That can be fixed sometimes but some people are incapable of putting on weight, some lose their mobility and pace, and others break down with endless injuries. There's too many unknowns with ruckman and they take too long to develop. That's why nobody takes ruckman in the first round anymore.

Plus he is already 19. He has had an extra year to put on weight but is still extremely skinny. His highlights packages show him getting into space and using it quite well but they don't show him actually taking contested marks. Will be another Josh Fraser. A ruckman who plays small and doesn't exceed at his primary role.

Won't be another Peter Wright. Wright was never skinny for an U18 and was a forward who in the absence of other ruck options, was made to spend too many minutes in the ruck reducing his impact as a forward.

Just have a feeling that SPS may not be in our sights, if we're after an inside-outside mid here @ #5
The two players I can't see us getting a glimpse of at #5 are McCluggage & McGrath, with anything after that a possibility.

This will probably look silly as soon as next week but for now and assuming no picks get traded:

Essendon: McCluggage - Maybe the biggest upside of all the players at the top end of the draft. Too hard to pass on.
Brisbane: McGrath - Just makes sense for what they need........and lets's assume that they're evil enough to bid on Bowes
Fremantle: English/SPS? - Will they go home-grown and if the miss on Hill does SPS become somewhat more appealing? Who knows.
G. Coast: Bowes - They love to get him later but won't dare pass on him here.

Carlton:
Brodie - Can't see us not being keen. Just the upside may be a question.
Ainsworth - Not sure why bit I don't see him in Carlton colours.
Taranto - Only if we believe he can play midfield.
Venables - Interesting one based on what we think we could make him become. Has the tools.
Scrimshaw - Interesting again and the potential upside may be the reason we reach for him....if we do.
Marshall - Can't see it but?????

Not the worst of choices here. Anyone else that may jump the queue here?
