Realistically, if we trade (shutters) #5 but retain a pick in that 14-16 range - these are the guys we could target:

Oliver Florent, Willem Drew, Shai Bolton, Powell-Pepper and/or Battle/Kerr.

They're O.K. but nothing special there for mine, although I have been keen on Florent for some time now.
I know others like Battle and I'm likely wrong but I just don't see it with him.

Logue I haven't seen a lot of but I find him intriguing and he should be in this conversation.

I have big doubts it will be used. People are stressing out over pick 5 unnecessarily imo. SOS will be able to get the job done without it but if the offer is very good then he may well leverage that pick for a package.
Steven Trigg, stated that pick 5 was not coming into play. Sos surely is creative enough and has worked diligently during the year, now this is his time shine and apply his craft.
Getting depth or talented players who can't get a gig at GWS, is not how we are going to get elite talent, it's via the draft getting early picks and as many as you can, then test your ability as a recruiter and back yourself in to pick talent that has slipped through to later rounds.
The hype around #5 is all speculative and its media driven and it's what GWS are initially asking, I don't recall anyone at the Blues mentioning pick 5.

That's not how it works. They need to use the points from their next selections.

Ummm it works with whatever picks they want to keep. They could use early picks in a trade, then, if they believe they can pick up the likes of a bowes with 2 second round picks, that's exactly what they will do.

That Combine Harvester was very big on Scrimshaw.

Has just about everything minus the physical development which is a great position to be in.

A few years in the system building up his engine and body and he could become an absolute monster.

Can't Triggy remind Gillon we lost to them in the last 3 rounds? :$

Just checked their board, and most of them are complaining it's not a 1st round PP. Seems like the AFL have set a precedent for the future, that the PP is at the start of the 2nd round, unless of course a team has a longer run in the bottom 4 than Brisbane.

Edit. ... Actually, just listening to SEN as I'm typing this post, Greg Swan said they expected a 1st rounder, but happy to have a PP at all.

Would have no issue taking him at 5 as I believe he can transition to being a midfielder. Great in a contest and his 2nd and 3rd effort are very impressive

Brisbane granted priority pick, after the first round. (Pick 19). Just released by AFL website. Puts every club's 2nd round back one spot. Bugger!!!:(
A team that hasn't finished last in almost 20 years gets a priority pick.

Seems legit.

Listening to Taranto being interviewed by Afl trade radio as I write.
If we give up #5 I will be seriously pissed off.
He hasn't said who he supports but he has said that he models his game on both Parker and Fyfe - get your own ball and get forward to take marks.
Also said that he has met with most of the clubs already for interviews.
We need more first round picks, not less!

I was sitting next to a club scout at the under 18's all star game who was busy taking notes, no idea which club he works for. Bastard kept his notes covered too well for me to get any Intel, despite my best efforts.

I really like the look of Scrimshaw, but my query on him is that I'm not sure he will be a midfielder, I was really hoping they would give him some midfield minutes, but for Carlton I just don't see us spending big on another defender. I do think he is a big chance to be a top 5 pick though, just looks to have so many AFL qualities.

:) These interviews are quite revealing!

I was sold on Ainsworth at 5 and Battle at 23 but I've jumped off the bandwagon after hearing both of them! Ainsworth sounds like a lazy type who's only interested in a HFF role and expressed no interest as a full time midfielder. Battle only wants to someone else to take the best 2 tall defenders.

What's going to happen here when we draft Tim English at 5?

Riots?

We all agreed we would never again use pick #1 on a ruckman. This is pick 5....TOTALLY different :)

English and McKay would make for an interesting twin-towers setup...:straining:

I didn't get that impression from Battle but I think he's only 191cms, so it's likely that he will be a Gunston/Darling type rather than the number one forward.
Taranto was very well spoken. Almost as good as Weitering.
I am a big fan of his and I really hope that we take him. I don't care with what pick, we just need to get some more picks in so that we can get the job done.
