Don't get too set on it. Asking for trouble eg. Disappointment.

I might watch the highlights of that nab u18 game he played in recently to get a better feel for his game.

The top 5 consensus appeared to be mclugg,McGrath,Ainsworth, sps, Brodie.if Taranto fits into this group it makes pick 5 that little bit better.

To me it has started to feel like the following is likely.
1. Mcluggage likely number 1.
2. McGrath - GWS want him off half back
3. Ainsworth - reports brissy keen
4. Brodie - GC want inside midfielder

I think pick 5 could be choice between sps and Taranto. I think the pick that is most difficult to predict is brisbanes. Now that Rockliff could leave will they opt for the inside midfielder in Brodie. Brisbane could pick either Ainsworth, brodie or sps. I think it's easier to predict what the other 3 clubs will do.

There is a big difference between ratings vs needs

Unless you think a flanker, can be a very good midfielder, clubs will normally pick KPP or mids with top 10 picks.

I agree with McLuggage at 1
2 &3 Taranto and or SPS
4 McGrath

From then on there a few in the same bracket
Brodie, Bowes, Setterfield, Perryman, Ainsworth, Scrimshaw. The last 2 have more class than the first 4 on this line.

I hope Brodie goes in the top 4, I just don't rate him in that class, more from 6 to 10 (same as Bowes)

In terms of of what the clubs will take

1 McLuggage
2 McGrath
3 SPS or Taranto
4 Brodie
5 SPS or Taranto

Looks like we will have a crack at one of SPS Taranto Brodie or Anisworth.
SPS and Anisworth are the two with elite kicking skills
Brodie is the contested beast and Taranto is your goal kicking half forward/midfielder.
IMO Anisworth and SPS are the two elite level talents and we would be lucky to land either.
Brodie is the safe bet. Taranto at pick 5 would be a slight reach IMO.

Does anyone know how Brodie tested in terms of agility? I can't think of a time where I've seen him sidestep someone.

Good straight line speed though for a player of his stature and position, but you can't bullock through everything. It's actually poor enough to be of concern.
Brodie didnt test

I have a good feeling about Berry, have no idea if he's any good, but for some reason, his name suggests to me that he'll end up a very good player.

Ridiculous I know.
He was excellent last year as a HBF for Vic Country when they took all before them. He wasn't a tight player, more the sort of guy who ran off his man. And he did it well. He was AA after an excellent Carnival.
This year he was Vic Country's Captain, but he started the year injured and basically got in on his reputation and leadership skills (which I didn't see, but that is another tale). Like a lot of Vic Country boys, he didn't make a mark this time around and dropped off the horizon as a top 10 pick.
However, he took his medicine and went back to the TAC Cup and started playing a number of different roles, including on ball and FF. As his fitness and confidence returned he started kicking goals for North Ballarat and really finished the year well.
To be honest, I wouldn't have considered him if he were just playing HBF again, even if his form had been reasonable: we have decent small to medium defenders already. It was his flexibility and his unwillingness to be physically intimidated that impressed me. He even took a couple of speckies and ran down some mids who thought they were quicker than they really were.
I don't think he has returned to the rating levels of last year as yet, although his stellar performance at the Draft Camp would up his profile.

I would prefer Taranto over SPS. Taranto is a Victorian: no 'go home' factor. Taranto consistently gets the possessions; SPS does not. SPS can do some incredible things, but he is very hot and cold and hasn't had the game time against men that many WA boys get. Neither has Taranto, being a Victorian, but he looks more solid in the torso at this point. Taranto hasn't had a huge number of 'big' games yet, but he really stood up in those that he had. SPS was magic once or twice and kickless the rest of the time.

Just curious, is this an observation of the past 2 years ? I seem to remember around this time last year people saying that 2016 would be THE midfield draft, with all the references being towards how good SPS would be. I also understand he struggled with a hammy this year, could that be a determinant for the 'hot and cold'.

Taranto would be a good fit for us goal kicking half forward/Midfielder. Great overhead mark, has a good tank
Top 5 in TAC cup for contested possessions. Finishing around goals seems to be top shelf.
The Knoc on him is he's field kicking. Is it going to stand up at AFL ? Can he develope this part of he's game, once in a full time professional environment ?
SPS is special talent and he's kicking is up there with the best in draft. Has said he would like to play footy in Melbourne, but most kids that are about to be drafted would say that.
He did play some senior footy as bottom ager and played pretty well.
What I like about SPS is he is a flashy and skillful type player, but he really cracks in hard and wins he's own footy and is willing to chase and tackle.
At pick 5 I'd like Anisworth followed by SPS Brodie and Taranto.

Not sure Ainsworth is an elite kick. Barely goes at 50% infant of goals

According to the WAFL stats, SPS played 3 senior games last year.

This year he had a hamstring issue that hampered him until late in the U18 Champs, then it looks like he was kept at Colts levels as they made a run right through to the GF. Nothing to do with lack of exposure, just circumstances this year.

We should take Setterfield at 5. Him and Cripps would beast it for years together
I think we should bit on him at #5 to give GWS a little wrap around the ears for stalling our trades so much this off season.

If we pick Marchbank and Pickett up for a future 2nd however, i would be happy and let Setterfield slide.

I believe I heard Twomey say that Carlton rate Setterfield extremely highly and as one of the best in the draft and will definitely bid on him at 5.

According to Twomey just now:

1. Ess - McCluggage
2. GWS - McGrath
3. GC - Bowes (after BL bid)
4. BL - Ainsworth
5. GWS - Setterfield (after Carl bid)
6. Carl - Brodie
Cheers for the info, but I'd hope we're looking at SPS and Scrimshaw too.

Yeah it is just how he thinks now from the info/thoughts he has now:

At this stage last year, he didn't have Oliver in his Top 10.

Things can/will change. But this is his opinion now.
