Then they held up our trade week by demanding we trade Gibbs for pick 13 and give it to them.

Then they told Stewart to go to Essendon because they didn't want to trade with us.

We should bid on their players with a vengeance. **** those bastards!

And they made us take Palmer and even worse Heath Shaw plays there. Send a F*&%$ing plague their way.

Note the good deal they gave the Tigers for Deledio.

Crazy good. Between a first and third rounder for Lids and an early second for Vickery, Tigers made out like bandits.

GWS is in a position that they can value draft picks much the same way a billionaire values small change...look at how they traded with Freo and Brisbane, and then Richmond, and handed out surplus players like tips to favoured clubs, one of which is obviously no longer Carlton.

That's OK because gloves are off now when it comes to targetting Shiel.

I think after bringing in a pure outside mid like Pickett, Taranto would be a great addition to our midfield core.. Would be hard to see us losing a stopage with Cripps and Taranto in the guts.

I heard last week it was said several recruuters feel it is a very very strong and deep draft

According to Brett Anderson, recruiters have indicated they'll be drafting kids up to Picks 80-90. There aren't the real standout top 10 or so of last year and there are no real quality KPP (apart from a few in the academy selections). If you're hunting mids like we are then it should be good hunting. Don't be surprised in 3 years time the best kid in this draft comes Pick 30+.

It's been stated by several media outlets and some Adelaide insiders (Riccutto for example) that we would have had to have given up our future 2nd round pick to make that happen.

Don't agree. The problem is that you're looking at one trade/transaction in isolation rather than the big picture of the potential outcome of trade week as a whole. A bit like playing chess, you need to be able to plan 5 moves ahead of your opponent.

He is too slow. Look at how many tackles he broke from being 5+ kgs heavier than his opponent. Won't happen at AFL level.

I think we did look at the bigger picture with the Adelaide discussions.

If we'd traded for 13 and a second rounder, GWS would have insisted on 13 instead of Geelong's 2017 first rounder. The only way we'd have done that would have been if we'd been able to get an extra first rounder from Adelaide, and probably only if we'd gotten it with enough time to ontrade it (and Geelong's for a higher first rounder this year.

Option 1: Keep Gibbs, trade future pick to GWS.
Next year we can trade Gibbs to Adelaide for a first and second (13 + 31).

Option 2: Trade Gibbs for 13 + crappy pick, send 13 to GWS.
Next year we go to the draft with Geelongs first rounder, probably worse than Adelaide's 2017 pick.

Option 3: Trade Gibbs for 13 + future first rounder, send 13 to GWS.
Trade 2017 firsts (Adelaide + Geelong) to Gold Coast for Pick 6 and a future second rounder.

We ended up with Option 1, because Adelaide wouldn't pony up for Option 3.
Option 2 is a worst case scenario for us, which is why we didn't accept it.

Tbh, I'm probably more interested in who we select at 48, 66 and 70. If we can get some of those selections to come off, we can definitely have faith that this is a new and better era of list management.

Bolts needs an especially strong say in those later selections, this is where he'll prove himself.

FWIW I still think Gibbs should've been traded. SOS probably could've got his 2 1st rounders (1 future) had he been prepared to throw a bone back the other way. .

We were a mile off getting anywhere near 2 first rounders and if you listen to what Adelaide have said they just weren't prepared to do that (unless we gave our second).

Indeed. I wouldn't be disappointed if we drafted Brodie but I think that Cripps & Brodie would be similar players.
I think Taranto would give us something extra and compliment Cripps by capitalizing on his clearances.
Especially if he's being compared to Bartel...

The rest is reasonably par for the course.

A few there not spoken of much. I think a lot of us get caught up in the hype of certain players, I've certainly noticed a few people declare they do t want a player because they look like a player they don't like.
It would be interesting to look over the top 10 rated champion data players from the last 4 seasons and see how they have progressed compared to the actual top 10.

I wonder if. Libs have anything in place to eliminate sub conscious bias.

We were never going to trade #5 and i suspect the Touhy deal was agreed to a long way out. If Adelaide had have kept there mouth shut re Gibbs and we could have done the deals with Geelong and GWS then i reckon we could have come to an agreement with the crows for Gibbs, but because we knew we would be handing GWS the pick 13 after they blabbed the incentive to trade Bryce was not there anymore.

A few days ago I wanted Brodie.

Today I want Taranto. You can't teach goal nous, he has it. You can't teach elite marking and ball-judging ability in the air, he has it. You can teach 2-way running, not a lot of top prospects run both ways.

He'll fill out to be 188-189cm, which is a damn nice size for a midfielder that can be dangerous forward. He can provide a good mix of inside and outside play (recorded 11 tackles in TAC GF), and he has demonstrated an ability to accumulate possessions, which is crucial for an attacking midfielder.

GCS are extremely fortunate to have so many top 10 picks.

I'm pretty content with the way SOs handled it. If Adelaide had come up with 13 and pick 26 l would have done the deal. But l wouldn't swap future 2nd and 3rd as they proposed.

At worst we get a late first round pick in 2017. Not a hell of a lot different to what was offered this year. Jake Niall wrote an excellent article explaining Gibbs importance in the short term. This further enhances sos's decision to at least keep Gibbs for an extra year.

I think we all felt a sense of satisfaction in telling them p*ss off and then watch them try to justify there offer and an ordinary trade period.

Without flogging a dead horse, I wouldve done that. 13 + future 2nd. Or even just asked them to turn 13 into a sub 10 pick and get back to us (that pick and a few pick upgrades).

Would have let us take two of: Taranto/ Brodie/ Scrimshaw/ Ainsworth/ Venebles.

I think that if he is available at 48, we will be taking Patrick Kerr. And I think that we would be thinking of taking Kerbatieh at 66. Take pick 70 to the PSD and grab someone around 24-25 years of age in the PSD and then go to the rookie draft. Pick 99 is going to be used in the rookie upgrade of Byrne.

Then Adelaide wasn't really serious about getting Gibbs were they. They came out in the first couple of hours, announced they were making a big play for Gibbs, a contracted player at Carlton and then spent the next 8 days sitting around bitching and moaning about how unprofessional and unethical Carlton were in not handing over Gibbs for the equivalent of two mars bars and a can of coke.

I am sure that Gibbs manager is going to be in his ear about how shit Carlton were in not allowing his trade to Adelaide to go through. But I think that Andy McKay will be straight onto the front foot and sit down with Gibbs and tell him that if Adelaide had been serious in their desires to acquire his services, they would have come to the party and telling him that after all the pallava Adelaide put out, they obviously didn't value him very highly.

While I think that Adelaide is going to have another shot at him next year, the whole situation is going to have changed and Gibbs isn't going to be that willing to make the move.

I think the biggest problem we had was the fact GWS were holding out for that pick 13, the Marchbank trade only went down with minutes to go. We weren't going to be able to keep that pick and unfortunately that de-valued the Adelaide offer even more.

I think the biggest problem we had was the fact GWS were holding out for that pick 13, the Marchbank trade only went down with minutes to go. We weren't going to be able to keep that pick and unfortunately that de-valued the Adelaide offer even more.

They can hold out all they want. We most certainly could have kept that pick. We did the trade without using it after all.

Im happy with our trade period, I just reckon we could have positioned ourselves a little better in the draft.

I haven't seen any games where he starred in the midfield. If that's the case then I am absolutely on board us selecting him.

You can't teach footy nous & judgement (which he has) full stop. Combine that with the ability to hit targets and you have an elite player in the making.
These things can't be taught, and we have previously rolled the dice purely based on speed or agility (re Kane Lucas), which is why we have done so badly in the past.
