5: Brodie/Taranto
25: Venables/Clarke/Gallucci/Drew/Scharenberg/Hayward
48: Lyons/Poholke/Ridley/Kerr
63: Stengle/Garthwaite

If those options are available at 25, I'd be ecstatic.

GWS smashing the draft every year needs to stop. They arrogantly traded their way into pick 2. They grabbed Brett from Richmond. Clubs need to make sure they regret it by nominating their top 3 academy kids early. They either lose one or they owe points next year. And next year they apparently have the best kid in the draft in their academy.

I hear what you're saying, I really do, but all of the players from their 2014 draft have been traded. They may get access to some serious talent, but every year they will have clubs chasing their kids.

5. Tim Taranto..........Take the class.
25. Zac Fisher...........Made of the right stuff, even though there isn't much stuff there just yet.
48. Dylan Clarke.......Feel he'll drop and worth the chance.
Next 2 picks: Players we've kept a close eye on and may not be up on others' radar.

5 - Brodie. I see alot of John Kennedy traits in him
25 - Bolton. I think teams will pass due to size.
48 - Clarke. Seems to be one of those players who is always getting it and using it without the headlines.
63 - Kerr or best available slider as everything is up in the air by then.

Some grunt, some X factor and some class...

Things always seem so rosy at this time of year!

I'm still hopeing that we can get Anisworth at pick 5. He has that great mix of turbo pace and elite kicking skills, imagine Crippa feeding the pill to Anisworth, who can burst out of the stoppage and use he's beautiful field kicking.
Anisworth is the player who would compliment Cripps.

Scrimshaw is just a class above with ball in hand, he kicked a clutch goal in the TAC cup GF and I just thought wow this kid might just be something very special.
Would be worth reaching for him at pick 5 IMO, if Anisworth is off the table.

Brodie is your bust proof player. Has shown he can hold he's own, up against the bigger bodies at VFL level.
Will be a inside clearance type mid, with good contested ball ratio and good tackle numbers.
He does cover the ground well for a big bodied mid, even has a nice burst of speed and is a good athlete.
Overhead marking is also at a very high standard. Would certainly help lessen the load on Cripps.

One things for sure, we need to target actual footballers with our later picks.

Kids with the attitude, game sense, and skills, who for one reason or another (injuries, lack of exposed form, height, build, limited endurance) will be overlooked by other clubs.

You can build a players strength, build, and endurance, more difficult to teach them how to read the play, or to reconstruct ingrained kicking actions.

Lyons the younger looked alright in the TAC Cup GF. Seemed to get to the right places consistently, showed a bit of dash & wasn't the worst user on the ground.

Given GC have 4 picks, if SPS is gone in the top 3, Bolton could be picked at in the top 10. They love that type of player. So does GWS, especially with pick 15

GWS won't have pick 15 after we (or someone else) bid on Setterfield.

I want the right character. Whoever has the strongest desire to succeed form the guys we're discussing for pick #5, would be the guy I'd take.....even if others may have a trick or two more.

We've had enough that don't put in over the course and that only drags down the overall tone of things.
Brodie has an urgent will to desire and if he does slot into a team ethic, then he may just do.

Good post. Character will be a massive deciding factor in who is selected, and it is something that is very difficult for most of us to be able to know about without knowing the draftees.

Everything you hear about Brodie indicates that he has an excellent work ethic and is driven to get the best out of himself. It's not usually until much closer to the draft that we get an idea about how the picks are likely to fall, he may well not be available at our pick.

I hear what you're saying, I really do, but all of the players from their 2014 draft have been traded. They may get access to some serious talent, but every year they will have clubs chasing their kids.

Steele and Marchbank certainly. But Ahern, Pickett and the cricketer are clear cases of cutting their losses. In a ruthless environment GWS just don't have the patience to develop project players or injured teens. Better for them to continue stock piling high picks

Same here. Some of the best midfields have been led by the partnership of two guns...Mitchell/Hodge, Pendlebury/Swan, Kennedy/Hannaberry and more recently Selwood/Dangerfield.

Maybe Cripps/Brodie could become our dynamic duo.

I think we'd new a new ruck coach if we picked him up.

Ours doesn't have any experience working with a guy who can get first hands on the ball.

Fair point about the need for a ruckmen with 4 already on our list. We do however need more small forwards, who are the best Eddie Betts, Jeffy Garlett types likely to be available for the picks in the 60s.

I'd say there's every chance we look at a project ruck either late in the ND or in the RD.

We do currently have Kreuzer, Phillips, Gorringe, Casboult and Korcheck at the club but 3-4 of those could well be off the list heading into 2018.

If we intend to bring a project ruck in rather than one who is more experienced and ready to go, I'd say it may be better to do it this year so they have a year of development at an AFL club under their belt before they may realistically be called upon.
