Is a very exciting KP. Beep tested 15.4 earlier in the year. His mobility and speed for a guy standing 197 is exceptional. They say he tries to model his game on N. Riewoldt, reminds me more of a more athletic version of Tippett. Last year his conversion was very good 16.4 and has also done stints as a KPD. Sproule could also play on a wing, nice level of aggression too

Still raw, but will make it at the highest level

Thanks Arrow much appreciated, would be an excellent option for pick25 given our impoverished forward structure.

We have run below industry standard, hence our demise, through our competitiveness. The 6 players listed should have been a minimum return of at least 600 games.

You don't pick flankers in the top 12, that's all Menzel was. As for Holman, I didn't even rate him draft worthy, had Sicily & Amon at that slot. Happy to send you my notes from that draft.

I am comfortable with the way SOS looks at talent, looking forward to the draft

Menzel was by far the better talent and had have we not taken him....guess who was next?

I don't care for your notes but tell me this for the fun of it: Who was so much better than Menzel in the next 20 or so picks?

SOS and bolt have changed the competitiveness, speed and mobility of all the players that have been traded or released, apart from Henderson. We all know why Yarran had to be moved on. Holman had no agility or speed at all
''at all" is a bit much. There can be a middle ground, a player doesn't have to have either blistering speed or be a truck.

Holman's issue was not finding enough of the ball and his perceived lack of development scope.

I agree, that draft was very plain, I was looking at talls at that range, one of Corr, Jaksch, Grundy.

Never said that, said, competitiveness, agility and speed. Warnock vs Phillips ect

2012 was a stinker of a draft. As side from F/S in Viney and Hunter the only players getting a regular game/playing decent footy are Grundy, Wood and Membrey. Easy to make a blanket statement don't take a flanker at 12 but we would be no better/probably worse off if we picked any of Jaksch, Lonegan, Corr, Garner,Thurlow,Simpson

It's not until you look a little further sometimes that you see things weren't quite the way on thought they may have been.

Our recruiting has been poor without doubt, but I fear that some players didn't come on for reasons outside talent alone. That best have changed.

Really liked him too but surely GWS don't let him slip.

Setterfield, Perryman, McCreadie, Sproule, Mutch

If Setterfield and Perryman are bid on in the first round, as I suspect they will, GWS will have to go into deficit, if they want to acquire anyone else from their Academy

CFC Pick 5 bid of Setterfield, if they match it, all but wipes out pick 15 & 37
AFC or PAFC could bid on Perryman with 13 or 14, all but wipes out their other 6 picks

Unless they use pick 2 for Setterfield, which they may do.

At 25, I prefer B. Cox, Sproule a close 2nd

I rate McCreadie & Mutch, late 2nd, early 3rd

You would have to be some sort of a genius to turn those picks in those drafts into 600 games

Everyone is saying what a terrible draft 2014 was.

These are our first 3 picks for 2012 & 2013

2012 Menzel, Graham, Temay
2013 Cripps, Giles, Holman

Two plays left, one will be shown the door next year.

Disgraceful
Doesn't look great, mind you Cripps at #13 is a great get. How have other clubs fared with their first 3 picks in 2012 and 2013. Maybe thin drafts and draft concessions made it tougher for most clubs.

Garner/Thurlow are flankers, like Menzel. Simpson I didn't rate in the 1st round

It's amazing that I mentioned 6 guys, only one has worked, Cripps. One had injury problems, Giles

Of the other 4, people are only debating Menzel? Ok, lets say he was the best of a bad lot

What excuses will people make for

Holman
Graham
Temay

SOS will dramatically improve our strike rate, have no doubt

Genius? Not at all, it should be the baseline

Here, you do the maths and tell me if it is unrealistic

SOS - The Real Test

While SOS was at GWS, he never needed to draft anyone from pick 30+

Last year, apart from SOSOS, all other picks were in the top 20 (Not counting the Rookie Draft)

In years to come, when we reanalyze the 2016 draft, we will get the first indication as to the skill set of SOS as a recruiter.

My formula, to determine a "Pass" mark for a draft is based on games played for mid round picks in the first 3 rounds:

Example:

Pick 9 - 150 Games
Pick 27 - 100 Games
Pick 45 - 50 Games

More games above these indicators is a bonus, not to mention 4th round + picks. Other factors to consider is quality of games.

I really look forward to seeing who we take with the 4 picks we have in the 3rd and 4th rounds. I hope we don't take the easy option of acquiring DFA with these picks

This is exactly the opposite reason of why I was surprised we got rid of him. He wasn't skilled or polished, but i thought he got his hands on it enough, had reasonable foot disposal, and certainly cracked in with off the ball pressure & tackles. Maybe he had a crap attitude cos I thought he had a real crack.
...But he's history now so I guess it's a pointless endeavor.

Averaged 9.4 disposals in 8 games. Most he got was 13. Didn't have consistently big games in the VFL like Graham or Whiley either.
