SOS Draft history outside the first round:

2011 - Tom Downie, Setanta O'halpin, James McDonald, Sam Frost
2012 - James Stewart, Bret Thornton, Joseph Redfern, Zac Williams
2013 - Rory Lobb, Jake Barrett, Jed Lamb, Sam Schulz,
2014 - Pat Mckenna, Jack Steele, Jeremy Finlayson

It's not a stellar bunch, but there are lots of mature-age recruits in there and many of those picks are zone selections.

In many ways SOS has never been under much pressure to pick a diamond out of the pile so it will be interesting reviewing the next few years

This draft goes pretty deep so i've got a lot of faith in SOS that he'll get the job done again.

Knightmare has his phantom up and he has us taking.......................

Pick 5 - Will Brodie
Pick 25 - Taylin Duman

Just had a look at a youtube clip of Duman vs Vic Country. In a two minute video, he hit two targets by foot, and one of them had to take it at full stretch despite being uncontested. Missed half a dozen. Not sure he'd be on our radar if that's the level of kicking efficiency we can expect moving forward.

Brodie is the no brainer for me... If he is actually there at 5, as I still have my doubts he will be, we get a steal.

Ollie Wines went @ #7, with Toumpas & O'Rourke ahead of him.

Clubs will always reach for talent ahead of nuts and bolts.

You take Scrimshaw at 5 every time.

Dumas seems underwhelming, doesn't seem like the type we'd be looking at, or he isn't the type I think we should be looking at.

It's interesting how Melbourne have interest in Drew, especially considering their stocked midfield.

Has anything really come out of Essendon to confirm that they'll be taking McLuggage?
They have their two main stoppages players, in Watson & Stanton, right at the end of their careers.

Is there still a chance for them to take Brodie at #1 and then for GWS & Brisbane, go with their first preferred players in McGrath & Ainsworth, whilst GC being forced to take Bowes, leaving McCluggage available to us?

Would we even want McCluggage ahead of Brodie?

Will McLuggage just end up as a flanker, which would rule him out for some. Seems to do his best work getting the ball outside 50 and running in and scoring.

Happy with Brodie at 5, reckon we can do better than Duman at 25.
I'd be keen on Rotham if he's still there.
I'm all about Zac Fisher at 25, would be a perfect fit for the team we want to build. Would also seriously consider the likes of Kerr, Battle and Sproule if they're available.

The only indication Essendon have made is they enquire about Brodie playing for there VFL team. However I would have thought if they were still keen on him they would have traded down with either gc or gws to get the extra sweetener and still get Brodie.

I dont know anything about Brodie personally, but from what i've read i hope we take him.

As we all keep saying, we need to 'build the cake' first before looking to bring in the flashy, outside types like Menzel, Yarran etc.

Brodie would partner Cripps as the 'nucleus' of our future midfield and then we can build around them.

Sounds like he's more bankable on making it and not being a bust as well given his size, form against bigger VFL bodies and contested ball winning ability.
I also keep reading about his competitiveness and drive to be the best, so he'll likely improve on any deficiencies he currently has like Cripps did...hoepfully he can become our Josh Kennedy/Ollie Wines type of player.

I feel the same way right now. Would be happy with Fisher at #25, but of Gallucci is still there, I feel SOS will take him.

Just not feeling anything for the talls......not even Marshall at #25, let alone Kerr or Battle.

Agreed. Duman a bit underwhelming for pick 25. I'd rather get a tough nut, natural footballer not another project player who is athletic yet has poor skills.

There won't be a poster here bemoaning us taking Brodie, should he be available.........O.K. maybe one......there's always one.

We really are in a no-lose position with the #5. Wipe the sweat from my brow every time thinking we may have lost it to gain Stewart & Tomlinson.

Hi Thy ,

It looks like you're writing a letter . . .
classic, matthew - it was the first thing I shut down every time my 386 dragged my windows 97 into life on the screen - hideous, nosy little campaigner!

and pretty much useless!
