I personally believe that it will come down to SPS or Taranto at 5

Can mount an argument for both, slightly different skill sets, one home grown, the other a risk of wanting to go back home.

Either way, we will pick up a very skillful player

Yes I am happy with any of WB, SPS, or TT.
Can see benefits either way.

Could be fun seeing SPS and JP running circles around opposition players in years to come

Then Brodie is a more physical Hannebery. Clearing a path and running out of packs is something he is adept at.

Also has a strong desire to be the best.

Can't place a value on determination.
It's virtually intangible.

I hear the one query on Brodie other than not hitting scoreboard much is his kicking, anyone have a view on his kicking?

Absolutely 1981

Interesting how our list has changed. Seems that SOS & Bolts are replacing guys with quicker and more mobile options on each line.

Would Essendon have any interest in bidding on Setterfield at 1? He appears the prototype modern mid, great size, mobility, good in traffic, good disposal...and I'm guessing great scope to develop. And Dodoro quite likes being a bit of a campaigner.

Would certainly make for an interesting few minutes.

I've been dreaming of a possible SPS and Scheer or Graham combination, if not a Sproule or Kerr at pick 25 . At 48 if we take a tall at 25 either Clarke or Ately.
The sense of anticipation is exciting and consuming.
SPS is without a doubt a rare talented and best in this draft.
As soon as he's intergrate into the team and gets over he's minor injuries he'll be the talk of the competition an absolute high caliber footballer.
Go Baggers

No, no club with a #1 pick will ever bid on an academy kid. Its all about selling the #1 pick to the members and to admit you got your 2nd choice doesnt quite have the same impact.

Fair point...though I don't necessarily agree. Best is best.

Least we would find out how highly GWS value McGrath.

I'm just wondering what the knock is on Powell-Pepper? He's been spoken about for a couple of years as a draft prospect but never in the top 15.

Tough and competitive, is it just that others show more polish?

Not too keen on picking up a non-victorian tbh

They all end up going home these days :(

I hear what your saying LR, but it is up to our club to create a culture where players want to come to and once there, don't want to leave until there done.

We have had relative success with the WA boys staying.

Agree bmaurizio

This draft is very tantalising, when you think about guys such as SPS & Taranto. Don't think Clarke will last for our 3rd round pick. Perhaps if we add a guy like Barrett as a DFA, then I would hope that we turn our attention to a tall, Cox or Sproule with 25, if either are there. After that, there are some gems that will be around in the 3rd and 4th rounds

One would say that the Hawks have had a pretty awesome environment of late. That didn't stop Hill requesting a trade back to WA. Sometimes players just want to leave for family/friends/location reasons which will always be a risk, esp with interstate kids.

Supposed knock on SPP was perhaps a lack of consistent polish. I think opinions have changed over the last month, especially his GF Colts performance when he had 20+ possessions and 4 goals, in a losing GF. Would be surprised if he got past WC's pick

We picked up all Vic kids in last year's draft, makes me wonder if the Club think tank agrees with your kind of thinking ?

Happy for Hayward to move into first round calculations as well, as it means we get more quality at our second pick.

Not that Hayward isn't talented in terms of athleticism and football smarts, he just cannot kick, and I don't see him becoming an inside mid.

I'm sorry but Hayward a bad kick?

He's elite.

Agree and fortunately Bolton abd the Club have established a liason or intergration support person Andrew Walker. Great move and long overdue his a fantastic amazssadir

Not sure that there was much "Pick only Vic players" in last years decisions. Which of the selections had a non-vic player competing with them for selection at that point ???

#1. Weitering. Clear #1 selection
#10. We needed a KPF. Best available was McKay and we thought that Adelaide would take him with #11 so we took him with #10. If anything the Crows selected for a state kid as they didn't want to risk picking up Curnow
#12. Curnow. Probably should have gone higher but we all know why he slid.
#23. Cuningham. You could argue that we wen't for him because he is a Vic kid however the next 3 non-academy selections were also vic kids ..........
#53. SOSOS .............

Don't think there was much "avoid the interstate kids" involved in last years selections.

What if that player is clearly the best player in the draft?

Why the hell wouldn't you?

JGM? WA kid.

He's elite.
Elite how? He can roost it, but his technique is all over the shop, and he regularly fluffs passes.

His skinny frame probably has a say in him keeping balance while kicking under pressure, but take a look at even the highlight videos and you will watch him spray simple snaps.

So Twomey has us linked to SPS.

hmmm...interesting.

I probably should take this on face value, but.....i've been thinking for a week that if i was Carlton i would be sending out false trial balloon's on our real fancy...because GC have a pick before us and 2 picks straight after us. For strategic reasons , GC would love to know who we "want".

Probably should take things on face value because that seems to be how it works with mail from the main insiders leading up to the draft....but...i'll only be convinced of our selection when Quayle, Twomey submit their Phantom on the day of the draft i reckon.

Still confident it will be McLuggage, McGrath and Ainsworth going 1, 2 & 3. So lets hope that Brisbane bid on Bowes. That way GC are forced to use pick 4 on him and we then have our choice of Brodie, Taranto or SPS.

If we draft based on 'best available', then for me its SPS. Besides I'm fairly certain we can draft an inside bull at pick 25 - SPP, Drew, Clarke etc.

Thats is a draft to be drooled over:D:D:D

Because if you have the #1 pick its because you finished last, and you need to be able to sell the dream to your members.. and the story line that you got your 2nd choice in the draft is not that sexy.

I'm coming around to the idea of SPS, not that I needed much convincing. The guy has the most 'tools/attributes/weapons' to his game to translate that into being a gun player at AFL level. Not just a damn good player, but a gun. That's what separates him from the others in the bunch. In that sense, it's a higher risk - higher reward type situation. You grab the class with your first pick and then at 25 there are other inside players available. Drew is probably the pick of those guys for mine. Just can't warm to that horrible ball drop of Dylan Clarke.
